‘I wore this Boux Avenue bra to a summer wedding and it solved my outfit dilemma’

Shopping Writer Meghan recently had an outfit dilemma as she needed a bra that wouldn’t be visible with the dress she was wearing to a summer wedding – and this Boux Avenue one that worked a treat

‘I wore this Boux Avenue bra to a summer wedding—it solved my outfit dilemma’(Image: Meghan Coon)

Is there anything worse than not having a bra that can seamlessly hide under awkward outfits? I recently had this issue, as the backless halterneck dress I planned to wear to a summer wedding meant none of my bras would be discreet underneath it. The previous strapless bra I owned was visible at the back, and the straps of normal bras would have been visible (and ruined the halterneck style). That’s where this Boux Avenue bra came in clutch.

Unlike some strapless bras that come unwired or feature an unstable all-over adhesive, this Boux Avenue strapless and backless stick-on bra is underwired to help create some lift, whilst the silicone gel adhesive wings help keep the bra in place and leave you feeling secure all day. The silicone adhesive is also transparent, meaning the bra can be fastened and go unnoticed, no matter what strap style you’re opting for with your top or dress.

Backless and strapless bra

Coming in two shades, light nude and black to best suit your wardrobe, this bra comes in a range of sizes to comfortably fit and support your bust. Ditching the front clasp that some strapless adhesive bras have, which can be visible or cause bumps in tight-fitting clothes, this bra is seamless and smooth to easily hide under any ensemble without drawing attention to its presence.

The bra conveniently slipped under the halterneck dress I was wearing, offering plenty of support while being completely invisible at the front, sides and back. What’s more, the bra remained comfortable all day and stuck in place without constant readjustment from the start of the day to the end of the night (nearly 10 hours); plus, this summer wedding was during the heatwave when temperatures were racked up to 28 degrees Celsius, and despite sweating and moving around a lot through the course of the very hot day, the bra didn’t budge.

The adhesive wings located at the sides not only keep the bra exactly where you want it but they can also be pulled tighter to provide as much lift as you like, unlike bras where the adhesive is located on the inside of the cup. Completely reusable and washable, I had no trouble sticking the plastic covers back onto the adhesive wings once I was done using the bra, so that I could store it with the rest of my underwear without the adhesive sticking to other items or getting lint and fluff stuck to it, reducing its effectiveness.

I’ve since worn this bra under other dresses and tops I haven’t been able to wear so far this summer, as any other bras would be visible and ruin the look, and the bra continues to live up to its promises. The only thing I will note, for all those who use fake tan or gradual tanner, the adhesive may lift the tan in places where the adhesive is stuck to the skin once you remove it, so be prepared to need to redo your tan or place the bra in the same place next time you reach for it.

Retailing for £25, this strapless and backless bra is part of Boux Avenue’s summer essentials collection, which also includes a Stick and Clip Bra (£24) which is sure to solve the same outfit woes as this dress, so long as the neckline doesn’t come deep enough to see the clasp. Boux Avenue also stocks silicone nipple covers for £10, for those outfits where you don’t need or want a full bra. If you want to ditch the adhesive, Boux Avenue has this viral Strapless Microfiber Multiway Bra (£32), which also promises to solve strapless outfit dilemmas, without the need to stick anything directly to your skin.

Emmerdale’s Lucy Pargeter ‘engaged to convicted drug lord she secretly visits in prison’

Emmerdale actress, Lucy Pargeter, who has played Chas Dingle on the soap for years, is reportedly engaged to Elliott Walker, who is behind bars after pleading guilty to conspiracy to produce class B drugs

Lucy Pargeter is reportedly engaged to a convicted drug lord

Emmerdale star, Lucy Pargeter, is engaged to a convicted drug lord, who she visited in prison last week – according to reports. Lucy, 48, who has played Chas Dingle in the ITV soap for 23 years, is said to have made the 500-mile journey from her home in Yorkshire to HMP Hollesley Bay in Suffolk, where Elliott Walker is serving a six-year sentence.

Walker, 54, was sentenced in December 2021 for his part in the creation of a giant drug production facility in Warwickshire after supplying equipment for what is believed to be Britain’s biggest ever amphetamine factory. He is now said to be telling his fellow inmates that Lucy is his fiancée after some of the lags spotted the actress at the prison, when she was visiting.

Talking to The Sun, a source said: “Her [Lucy’s] relationship has been the talk of the prison because some other visitors obviously recognised Lucy the other day as she’s been on Emmerdale for ages.

“And Elliott has made no secret of telling other inmates she’s his fiancée . ”

The outlet has also published a snap of the actress getting into her car, which it says was taken outside the Category D nick last week when she went to visit Walker.

It is not known how and where Lucy met the felon, who is thought to be close to a release date.

Lucy, who split from her former partner in 2019, revealed in a podcast in 2022 that she was in an “exclusive new relationship”, but gave no further details.

However, last year, the mum of three, who has played the iconic Chas on Emmerdale for 23 years, shared an Instagram video post in which she was wearing a diamond engagement ring.

Four years ago, Walker, from South East London, was locked up after admitting conspiracy to produce amphetamine.

He bought equipment for the drugs lab in picturesque Henley-in-Arden, which was raided by the National Crime Agency.

It was said to be capable of producing 400kg of amphetamine — with an estimated street value of £10millon — every month.

Lucy, who has never married, shares daughter Lola, who was born in in 2005 and twins Betsy and Missy, who were born in 2017, with ex, Rudi Coleano.

The pair did get engaged in 2019, but later confirmed their split, with a spokesperson saying at the time: “Lucy Pargeter has confirmed she has separated from her long term partner Rudi Coleano and while no longer together their main priority is raising their three daughters. “

The Mirror has approached Lucy’s reps for comment on this story.

Shoppers have been praising these headphones for their sound quality and battery life, with thousands of five star reviews. One reviewer wrote: “This is the best one I’ve ever had. Not only does it charge quickly and have a long battery life. The noise cancelling is fantastic and you can adjust it via the app. You can also take a hearing test so it can set up the best levels for your own hearing range. I’m absolutely blown away with how good it is”.

While a second added: “I am blown away by how good these are. I’m sure that these probably won’t compare to the high end alternatives but these are as good (if not better) than my Sony pair. They’re extremely comfortable to wear, the audio is clear and enjoyable and set up was a breeze. I haven’t tried the ANC yet but I have high hopes. “

The main criticism came from shoppers who argued the sound quality is not comparable to more expensive headphones on the market from Beats and Apple. However, considering the cost is far cheaper, this an expected criticism.

Finish off with a spritz of this gorgeous scent from Jo Malone, which is a favourite with our beauty editor Laura. “Inspired by ‘a rare and vivid flower in a tropical forest’, the key notes in this scent are mandarin, red hibiscus and vanilla. For me, it’s far less floral than its name suggest, with the vanilla coming through far stronger to create a warm, summery, almost sun cream-like scent, with very subtle hints of florals and citrus,” she says. “I’d place it firmly into the ‘solar scent’ category that’s popular at the moment – and I haven’t stopped reaching for it this summer. “

Courtney Cox uses Victoria Beckham’s eyeliner to create her go-to 90s smokey eye

Courtney Cox has just given fans an insight into the one eyeliner she uses to create a ‘tattoo-like’ eyeliner for a 90s smokey eye – and it turns out it’s from Victoria Beckham Beauty

Beauty icon Victoria Beckham has amassed plenty of praise for her best-selling eyeliner range at Victoria Beckham Beauty, as makeup shoppers and celebrities alike are obsessed with its pigment, blendability and staying power.

Shoppers have been raving about this eye make-up essential as it continues to receive high praise as a best-seller, but the adoration doesn’t stop there, as plenty of celebrities have been voicing their love for this eyeliner. One known fan of the Satin Kajal Liner is Claudia Winkleman, who swears by Victoria Beckham’s eyeliner to create her iconic eye look.

Courtney Cox has now joined the list of stars singing the praises of this liner. She shared on Instagram earlier this week that she uses it to create the 90s smokey eye she opts for repeatedly.

Claudia is mostly married to a classic black liner look, and Courtney Cox has just revealed she too opts for the same black eyeliner, and explained why. The Friends star told her Instagram followers that she had her eyelids tattooed to create a permanent eyeliner effect without the need for makeup to complete the look, or needing constant touchups throughout filming. That said, Courtney explained that she had done it so long ago that the tattoos were now faded, and she needed a good, pigmented black liner to cover the old marks.

The Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Eyeliner comes in a total of 21 other shades , including navy, bronze, and burgundy, as well as more unusual hues like mint green. Shoppers can choose from matte, shimmer, and jewel finishes, and each liner costs £32, either directly from her website or at Selfridges.

The VB eyeliner is perfect for achieving Courtney’s iconic smudgy effect that recreates the 90s smokey eye Courtney has rocked since Friends season one. It boasts a creamy texture that glides on in a single stroke with no dragging or pulling. You can use it to create a sharp, crisp line or blend and smudge it out to create a more lived-in look.

It’s also packed with skin-loving ingredients which are suitable for all skin types, and it’s completely smudge-proof and waterproof, so once you’ve got it how you want it, it’ll stay put all day. The eyeliner has also been created to be vegan and completely cruelty-free.

The luxurious eyeliner promises “low maintenance glamour” with just one swipe across the eyelid, while also offering bendability and flexibility that means your new eyeliner can seamlessly blend into any eye look you want. And with grunge makeup making a comeback, these beauties are perfect for that messy, smudged style that won’t budge for the rest of the day.

And it’s not just Courtney who loves this award-winning eyeliner from Posh Spice’s brand, as plenty of 5-star reviews rack up. One 5-star reviewer raves: “Absolutely in love with the Kajal liner. Glides on like velvet. “

Another adds: “This eyeliner goes on smooth and smudges great. Once it sets, it stays in place all day. The colour is really pretty also. “

And another satisfied shopper beams: “This is the best eyeliner I have ever used. It’s easy to put on and lasts all day. The sharpener is a great tool too. “

A fourth beauty fan writes: “Beautiful colour and probably the best liner I have ever bought. Stays without smudge all day. “

Another reviewer added: “I’ve been using this soft, long-lasting eyeliner for a while now, and I’m absolutely hooked! The formula is smooth and glides on effortlessly, making it super easy to create a variety of looks. It stays put all day without smudging or fading, even during those long days. The colour payoff is fantastic, and it’s really easy to build up the intensity. And let’s not forget about the packaging! It’s sleek and stylish, making it a pleasure to use. ”

However, one left a three-star rating, commenting: “The eyeliner goes on like a dream but you have to be careful not to get it into your waterline otherwise it transfers under the eyes. I end up with blue/purple looking panda eyes after a few hours. To prevent this I have to apply very carefully and it blunts the pencil quickly. I never got this with my No7 kohl liner. ”
