MIC’s Georgia Toffolo got engaged in a £350 red dress – and I’ve found a version that’s £200 less
Georgia “Toffolo” Toffolo, who announced her engagement to BrewDog founder James Watt on Instagram, deserves congratulations. The former Made in Chelsea actress and former husband Toff attended the occasion’s celebrations in a red maxi dress.
Toff’s stunning sheer dress (she is in Greece, after all) hails from Worme, with the Chiffon Collum Drape Maxi Gown setting you back £350 if you want to copy her exact look. However, I found a fantastic alternative from COS that will save you more than £200 if you want to be inspired by Toff’s daring outfit but don’t want to spend a lot of money.

The £115 Pleated Racer-Neck Maxi Dress is opaque enough to wear it even when you’re not on vacation, but it has a very similar design and silhouette to Toff’s see-through dress. The COS dress is expertly knit from a cotton blend and comes in a matching scarlet red color.
If red isn’t your thing, you can also purchase a black COS maxi dress. It’s available in sizes XS to large.
With a racer neckline and sleeveless design, COS’ maxi dress also has a silhouette that’s comparable to Toff’s. It flares out at the bottom into box pleats, which makes it ideal for both formal and casual events, as opposed to a straight column shape.
The sheerness of the dress comes into play in the bottom panels, with even-toned, contrast-toned sheer panels that allow for the right amount of skin for any occasion. You could style it for autumn with a pair of knee-high boots, a cozy wool pea coat, or a faux fur jacket to keep you warm all the way through the seasons, but it would also look gorgeous as a holiday dress.
For something a little more season-appropriate, Next’s Scarlet Red Long Sleeve Lace Maxi Dress, £59, is made from a vibrant red lace material with hints of sheerness throughout. It has long sleeves, which makes it more appropriate for the chilly British climate than Toff’s dress and the COS version.
It is comfortable and simple to walk in thanks to its figure-hugging fit and split side hems. It would look stunning when paired with metallic heels and some sparkly jewelry for a Christmas party.
Sizes 6 to 26 are available for the Next dress, which also comes in khaki green, black, or scarlet red.
