Legal expert says Liam Payne’s £24million is out of reach for girlfriend Kate Cassidy

Claims made by Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy on his £24million fortune are likely to come to nothing, a leading lawyer has warned.

The One Direction singer, who tragically passed away last October, hadn’t made a will – meaning that his ex-partner Cheryl Tweedy, mum to their son Bear, has been handed control of the estate. Their young son is expected to be the sole beneficiary, alongside music lawyer Richard Bray, who’s been appointed an administrator.

Despite being left without any automatic legal claim, it’s been reported that might have a case if she were to fight for a slice of the estate.

Kate, who the MailOnline reported to have been receiving a £20,000 monthly allowance from Liam and had access to his credit card, might attempt a ‘reasonable financial provision’ claim – essentially arguing that she depended on him, according to experts.

And while they weren’t engaged, it’s been suggested that three pieces of ‘evidence’ could support her case – a note reportedly penned by Liam stating: “Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and 2gether 4ever 444”, the number ‘444’ often linked to spiritual reassurance, plus testimonies from Kate and Liam’s pal Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores.

But solicitor John Lambe, partner at Forbes Solicitors and expert in contentious estate claims, believes Kate’s chances are slim.

He explains: “Courts are generally very sceptical of informal, non-binding statements regarding future marriage intentions.

“Testimonies, whether personal conversations between Kate and Liam about a desire to get married and have children in the future, or a friend’s testimony about Liam asking him to be best man one day, would not carry the same weight as documented evidence or formal commitments like an engagement.

“The testimonies would not establish a legal or financial obligation, which a court would be looking for.”

Lambe explained how no matter now personal and genuine, this type of evidence would also fail to convince a court about the sincerity of future matrimony, as the couple weren’t engaged.

“In this sense, a claim on the estate would struggle because it’s unable to show the relationship was akin to a common-law partnership,” he said.

“The strength of evidence about Kate’s financial dependency on Liam will require a factual and consistent history of financial dependence.

The legal expert outlined how bank statements may well show deposits of a monthly allowance into Kate’s account, but it’s conceivable this could be dismissed as generosity.

“A successful claim would need to demonstrate that the financial support was substantial enough to establish maintenance,” he said.

“It’s also worth considering that the estate’s administrators and beneficiaries would most like contest the dependency and argue that the support was discretionary, rather than obligatory.

Brooklyn Beckham ‘sees Nicola Peltz’s family as his sanctuary where he can hide away’

Brooklyn Beckham’s feud with David Beckham and Victoria Beckham continues following their no-show at the former footballer’s 50th birthday celebration in London

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz have been together for more than five years(Image: Instagram)

Brooklyn Beckham is said to see Nicola Peltz’s family as his sanctuary “where he can hide away,” according to reports.

The insight comes amid Brooklyn’s fallout with with parents David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, which is thought to have caused the latter sleepless nights. He and wife Nicola seemed to have snubbed David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations, including his huge bash at the swanky Core restaurant in London’s Notting Hill.

And, since reports of their rift, Brooklyn, 26, has reportedly found a “second mum” in the Peltz clan where he feels he can “hide away” with “less pressure”. Sources have claimed Nicola’s mother Claudia, 70, and billionaire father Nelson, 82, have become a “sanctuary” to Brooklyn, a former model.

One insider said: “Claudia is like a second mother to him and, although they are billionaires, Nicola and her brothers had more of a ‘normal’ upbringing because they didn’t have the media intrusion, which Brooklyn has always found so hard. He sees them as a kind of sanctuary where he can hide away if he wants to, but that is almost impossible in the Beckham family, they always seem to be on show. There is less pressure on him in a way.”

The source spoke to The Sun, which reports Brooklyn has “Mama’s boy” tattooed on his left pectoral. The former model, born in London, has previously gushed about Victoria on his social media. In 2021, captioned one selfie of him and Victoria with: “Best mum in the world.”

But he has reportedly become close with Nicola, following the feud which has reportedly left Victoria, 51, great strain. It was reported last week an insider said Victoria was experiencing her “her worst nightmare” as a result of the friction.

And David, 50, is allegedly “desperate to make amends with Brooklyn as he fears history is repeating itself” following his bitter fall out with his father Ted in 2005. The former Manchester United ace included Brooklyn in a post about Mother’s Day in the US as he dedicated a post to Victoria. It also featured their daughter Harper, now 13, and David and Victoria’s other sons Romeo, 22, and 20-year-old Cruz.

Alongside a sweet black and white photo, former England international David wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day to the best mommy. To all our friends in the US Happy Mother’s Day.”

Rapper Tory Lanez is recovering from being stabbed 14 times in jail, prison officials have confirmed.

The musician is now in “a fair condition” at the California Correctional Institution, where he was attacked by a fellow inmate on Monday evening. The jail said Lanez, 32, has now been moved from hospital to restricted housing pending the investigation into the horror.

Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, underwent treatment in hospital, although the nature of this has not been disclosed. It was said the rapper, born in Brampton, Canada, was stabbed 14 times – including seven wounds to his back and four to his torso – and then reportedly suffered a collapsed lung.

But now a prison official told the Mirror: “On May 12, 2025, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Daystar Peterson (BW0168) was allegedly attacked by an incarcerated person Santino Casio (V23575), at a housing unit in the California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehachapi. Staff immediately responded, activated 911 and began medical aid.

“Peterson was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment and is in fair condition. Casio has been placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by the CCI Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. The Office of the Inspector General has been notified.”

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rap sensation Megan Thee Stallion, 30. It is not yet known what the motivation was behind the stabbing.

Lanez took to social media last week. He showed himself looking buff and teased he would be releasing a new album soon. In December 2024, Megan filed for a restraining order asking courts to keep Lanez from perpetuating alleged “psychological warfare” against her. His legal team pushed back at the allegations. Yet, in January Megan was granted a five-year restraining order by the judge.

Details of this week’s attack were posted on the singer’s Instagram page. The lengthy post, though, ended with optimism. It said: “Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support,” and was accompanied by emojis, representing prayer hands and an umbrella.

And Lanez’s community showed up in the comments section to offer their support. Reactions included heartfelt messages like: “God is great! ! ! Praying for you bro.”

Jeremy Clarkson breaks silence on new Farm star as he confirms Kaleb’s future

Clarkson’s Farm returns for a new series on Prime Video later this month and Jeremy Clarkson has just addressed some speculation following the release of a trailer for it recently

Jeremy Clarkson has addressed the suggestion that he has “replaced” Kaleb Cooper on Diddly Squat Farm. It comes ahead of a new cast member of Clarkson’s Farm taking on his role on the farm in the upcoming season.

It comes following the release of a trailer for the fourth season of the Prime Video show last week. In the promotional video, Jeremy, 65, revealed that assistant Kaleb, 26, had left him “just a little bit in the lurch” by taking on another project. It was then teased that he had hired someone else to help him on the farm, located in Oxfordshire, whilst Kaleb was away.

Jeremy has revealed that he struggled without Kaleb, who was on a tour following the release of several books, on hand at the farm. The situation prompted attention, and it was suggested just days ago that Jeremy had ‘replaced’ Kaleb, who has worked with him for several years, with fellow farmer Harriet Cowan, 24.

Former Top Gear host Jeremy however has now addressed the suggestion in a video message. He shared it with his followers on Instagram yesterday and confirmed that Kaleb is still working with him on the farm after returning from his tour.

Jeremy, who was filming the message in a field, told viewers: “Bad news, I’m afraid, from Diddly Squat. It’s this … this relentless drought. It means we’re so busy, moving animals mostly, that we don’t have the time to do all the planned press and PR activity to mark the launch of season four on May 23, I think.”

He went on to share that he found that “annoying” because he wanted to address something. Jeremy then dismissed any suggestion that Kaleb has been “replaced” and even appeared to show his companion at work again.

Speaking about not having time for PR activities, Jeremy said: “And that’s annoying because there was something I wanted to address. There have been loads of reports recently saying that Kaleb has been replaced. Well, he hasn’t, he’s over there now rolling the dribble of moisture we had yesterday into his mustard.”

He continued: “Now, what happened is this, okay? He went away on his speaking tour for a couple of months because he imagined that after four years, I’d be able to manage on my own.”

Jeremy said: “And I didn’t! I made a complete mess of everything and had to bring in a young farmer called Harriett, who was brilliant and looked after the fort until [Kaleb] got back. That’s it! That’s the story.”

The message comes after Prime Video announced last week that the fourth season of Clarkson’s Farm will launch later this month. It’s been suggested that the season will be split in three volumes, released separately, though.

It’s been announced that the season will launch on the streaming platform on May 23, with this understood to be the first four episodes. Prime Video added that the fifth and sixth episodes will be out on May 30, ahead of the seventh and eighth episodes becoming available on June 6.

Eurovision fans emotional as they predict Celine Dion twist ahead of grand final

Celine Dion made a cameo during the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 tonight in a video message amid speculation she will return for the grand final

A special message was shared for fans of the Eurovision Song Contest by Celine Dion in the first semi-final this week. The singer shared her pride over having once won the contest in the video, which left some fans emotional.

There has been speculation that Celine, 57, could perform in the grand final of the contest in Basel, Switzerland, on Saturday. It would mark her return to Eurovision after taking her career to new heights when she won the international competition with the Ne partez pas sans moi in 1988.

Celine was representing Switzerland when she won more than 30 years ago. That marked the last time that the country, which has won three times overall, topped the leaderboard prior to Nemo’s victory with the Code last year.

She’s enjoyed a successful career since competing in the contest but has taken a step back from performing since announcing in 2022 that she’d been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome (SPS) in 2022. It’s described as a rare neurological disorder, with symptoms said to include muscle stiffness and spasms. She however made a ‘comeback’ at the Olympics in Paris last year, where she performed on top of the Eiffel Tower.

Organisers of this year’s Eurovision in Switzerland paid tribute to Celine tonight whilst celebrating their own history in the contest. Fans were also treated to a video message from Celine, which appeared to have been pre-recorded.

Celine said in the short video: “Dear Eurovision family and contestants, I’d love nothing more than to be with you in Basel right now. Switzerland will forever hold a special place in my heart. It’s a country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something so extraordinary.

“Winning the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland in 1988 was a life-changing moment for me, and I’m so thankful for everyone who supported me. Now, 37 years later, it’s so beautiful and emotional to see Switzerland winning and hosting this incredible event once again. To the people of Switzerland, thank you for your love. This night is yours, and I hope you feel as proud as I do.”

Celine’s message was followed by a cover of her winning song by Jerry Heil, iolanda, Marina Satti and Silvester Belt, who all competed in Eurovision last year. It was among the performances during the interval in the first semi-final.

Some fans shared that they were emotional after seeing the video message tonight. One person wrote on X: “Why am I genuinely crying at Celine.” Another said: “Aw Celine Dion. I’m not crying, you are.” A third wrote on the platform: “Oh I’m getting emotional watching the Celine Dion message.”

One person said: “Not me starting to sob when Celine Dion’s message started.” Another wrote: “Celine Dion’s message made me cry.” A sixth said: “Celine Dion’s recorded message for everyone was very heartfelt. Thank you [Celine].”

There’s still speculation that Celine could appear in the grand final following the message. One fan wrote: “Celine is so performing in the final like its so obvious.” Another viewer said: “Celine will be in the final trust #Eurovision2025.”

One post on the platform this evening read: “Important note: Celine Dion says ‘I’d have loved nothing more than to be with you in Basel right now’, but does not expressly say she won’t be performing this year as has been reported. Not saying that she *will*, but I think the jury is still out.”

Others shared hope that it’s a possibility. One fan said: “Would it be possible that Céline Dion could be doing a special appearance in the Grand Final? I still have hopes.” Someone else said: “What an amazing nod to Celine Dion, here’s hoping she can make it for the final on Saturday.” Another questioned: “Anyone still reckon Celine Dion is actually gonna be there on Saturday night?”

Even before the video message aired there was speculation that it’s a build-up to her return. One fan wrote this morning: “Is there any chance the Celine Dion video is a red herring and she may still appear in person during the final?”

Another said: “I think it’s now more likely that #Celine will appear in person in grand final.” They added: “If a video message was her contribution to ESC Basel, they wouldn’t use it at a Tuesday semi-final – they would keep it for Saturday.”

The sentiment was reflected by fans this evening, with one writing: “Weird that the Celine Dion message is shown during the semi-final and not the final.” Another said similarly: “Thought they’d have saved CELINE DION for the grand final.”

Not everyone seemed convinced that Celine will make another appearance though. One person wrote: “Sorry, no Celine Dion performance. But at least we get this video message.” Another said: “Aww, they got Celine – even if it’s only via video. Nice.”

Article continues below

As reported by PA earlier today, amid reports of her video message surfacing in advance, which appeared to rule out a return, a spokesperson for Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR said: “All elements of the first semi-final show were played through and rehearsed intensively. There are currently no changes regarding Celine Dion – we are still in close contact with her.”

Eurovision continues on Thursday night with the second semi-final at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The grand final will then be broadcast on Saturday from 8pm.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs trial: All we know from day in court as Cassie Ventura took to stand

Cassie Ventura took to the stand at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Courthouse in lower Manhattan on Tuesday and was in tears as she discussed moments with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

Tuesday saw the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs trial enter its second day. The rapper, 55, is facing a number of charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution. The Bad Boy Records founder was arrested in September. He strongly denies all allegations made against him.

Combs has been in prison since his arrest, with a number of bail requests rejected. Today (Tuesday, May 13) saw Cassie Ventura take to the stand. She faced the 12 jurors who were sworn in at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Courthouse in lower Manhattan on Monday.

Here are the biggest moments from the day’s proceedings.

Ventura fell in love with Combs before seeing ‘different side’

After explaining to the jury how the pair first met, Ventura went on to explain how she fell in love with the mogul after a trip to Miami. She told the court: “I travelled with him everywhere, I was in studios, I was just like [his] little shadow for a while.” She explained their relationship was “fun”, and it was her “first adult, real adult relationship.”

His life was “much different” to hers, she said, explaining: “He had assistants at his beck and call. He could get anything done quickly. He had respect from everyone. He travelled quite a bit.” Although she was “enamoured” by the musician, she told the court she later went on to “experience a different side of him, which was his abusive side.”

Ventura broke down into tears on the stand

Partway through her questioning, Ventura was in tears. She had been asked what she enjoyed, or if she enjoyed anything about the Freak Offs, when she burst into tears. She said: “The time spent with him,” was what she felt was the only time she could spend with Combs. She told the court: “I felt disgusting. I was humiliated. I didn’t have the words to put together at the time how horrible I really felt, and I couldn’t talk to anybody about it.”

Ventura ‘chose to leave’ after hotel altercation

Ventura recalled the altercation she had with Combs and said: “It got violent and I chose to leave.” She went on to tell the court: “Sean followed me into the hallway by the elevators. He grabbed me up, threw me on the ground, kicked me, tried to drag me back to the room, took my stuff.”

The incident took place during a Freak Off, with Ventura telling the court: “I’m not sure what happened, but I got hit by Sean and I had a black eye, and at that point all I could think about was getting out of there safely. I had my premiere, I didn’t want to mess it up, so I left.”

She was in a separate room from an escort when Combs hit her. She left the room when Combs was in the shower.

Combs ‘frequently’ assaulted Cassie

After the jury had viewed the CCTV footage of the Los Angeles hotel incident, Emily Johnston asked how many times Combs had beaten her in this way. Ventura responded: “Too many to count, I don’t know.

Johnson then asked: “Are there occasions when you tried to fight back when Sean hit you?” “No,” Ventura said.

How the Freak Offs would start

Ventura was asked about the Freak Offs

Ventura spoke about the Freak Offs. She told the court: “It was established pretty early on in doing the Freak Offs that Sean [Diddy] enjoyed a lot of conversation and describing.” She then said they would start with “oil and touching”.

Ventura went on to claim that those involved would engage in oral sex before sexual intercourse. She added it was a gradual process before claiming that while she wanted to move to the next process to speed it along, Diddy was “controlling” the situation.

“He was directing it,” she alleged to the court. She also told the court that she was tasked with finding escorts to engage in the Freak Offs, explaining how she would find adverts online at Combs’ request.

The jury looked at a text message between Ventura and a man she claimed would facilitate the escorts. She claimed he would send her images of the male escorts, saying: “I’d usually show them to Sean [Diddy] and see if that person was of interest for a Freak Off.

“I definitely had to show him,” she added before claiming the escorts were often paid between $1,500 and $6,000. She said they were mostly men, with a few exceptions.

She labelled the Freak Offs “disgusting” and “overwhelming” and said the longest Freak Off was four days.

Ventura took ‘all kinds of drugs’ to numb herself

During her testimony, Ventura claimed she took various drugs in a bid to numb herself. She said: “For me, it was dissociative and numbing. I couldn’t imagine myself doing any of that without having some sort of buffer or just way to not feel it for what it really was.”

She claimed that Diddy provided the drugs, and his staff would drop them off on occasions. She claimed: “Someone would drop off drugs to me, wherever I was.”
