Police turned up at Kneecap’s surprise gig in London on Thursday just hours after rapper Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh was charged with a terrorism offence.

Three officers were spotted entering the 100 Club, located on Oxford Street, where the rap trio had announced the performance for May 22 at approximately 7.35pm. A queue had started forming ahead of the concert as anticipation continued to build in the lead-up.

Posting on X, the band had confirmed that tickets had sold out in a mere 90 seconds with a growing waiting list of around 2,000 people. Due to this huge crowd, the Metropolitan Police had confirmed plans were in place to ensure health and safety at the event.

The Met Office told The Mirror: “A police plan was in place around last night’s event to ensure it passed off safely. This was primarily in terms of managing visitors to the venue for what was understood to be a spontaneous and sold out event.”

It comes after Óg Ó hAnnaidh – who performs under the name Mo Chara – was charged with a terrorism offence for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag. A proscribed terror organisation where it is considered a crime for ‘inviting support’ for the group.

The incident is believed to have taken place on November 21 last year at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, London. Police from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command launched an urgent probe after being made aware on April 22.

Following a review of video footage from the event, Óg Ó hAnnaidh was later charged with an offence relating to section 13(1)(b) and (3) of the Terrorism Act 2000. The 27-year-old is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 18.

Kneecap responded, indicating they have never supported Hamas or Hezbollah, arguing the footage in question was taken out of context. A number of gigs featuring the group have since been cancelled.

In a statement, the Met Police said: “A man has been charged with a terrorism offence following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command. Liam O’Hanna, 27, of Belfast has been charged, via postal requisition, with displaying a flag in support of Hezballah, a proscribed organisation.

Uche Ojeh dead: Today show’s Sheinelle Jones’ husband dies aged 45 after brain cancer

Uche Ojeh – the husband of Today show anchor Sheinelle Jones – has died after a battle with brain cancer. Uche was just 45-years-old at the time of his death, and the sad news was announced on the TODAY show.

Sheinelle had stepped away from her role on the NBC morning show back in December for what she said was a family health matter. Savannah Guthrie announced the sad news during the live show this morning.

She was in tears as she said on TODAY: “With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children.”

Praising Uche and their family, she added: “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”

Back in January, Sheinelle addressed why she was missing from the show as concerned fans rallied around her.

“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter,” she told fans who had been concerned about her..

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not on the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”

Sheinelle and Uche – who have son Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, 12, together – got married in 2007. They met years before at Northwestern University in Chicago, where she pretended to be a fake tour guide to spend more time with him.

“I was a fake tour guide. I was just walking to class. I was like, ‘Are you guys lost?’ And I told him I would take him around because he was cute,” she said last year of how they had met years back.

Writing about their sweet bond, TODAY said “the essence of Sheinelle and Uche’s partnership was captured in small gestures and loving celebrations of victories, big and small”. They recalled how two years ago, Sheinelle ran the New York City Marathon for the first time and Uche was there to cheer her along. A few weeks later, Uche did a Triathalon.

Concluding their poignant message for Uche, they wrote: “The TODAY family is honouring the life of Uche, a devoted husband, loving father and a man whose bright spirit touched everyone who knew him.”

Kate Middleton’s surprise reaction after awkward blunder in challenge with William

The Prince and Princess of Wales visited the new HMS Glasow for its official naming ceremony and also took part in a challenge with apprentices – but it didn’t quite go to plan for Kate

The Princess of Wales was left in fits of giggles after an awkward moment during a challenge with Prince William. The royal couple headed to Scotland for the official naming ceremony of HMS Glasgow, the first of eight Type 26 anti-submarine frigates to be built in the city.

Kate is the sponsor of the vessel and pressed a button to smash an exclusive bottle of whisky into the hull to cheers and applause. After the ceremony, the couple had a tour of the vessel, which is being fitted out, before meeting staff from BAE Systems, apprentices and members of HMS Glasgow’s company in a nearby training centre.

They then competed to complete a pipe puzzle connecting pieces of copper piping – a secondary school Stem activity – under the watchful eye of BAE apprentices.

The prince later complained he did not realise it was a competition, saying to laughter from Kate, “It’s a race? – that’s fine, then I’ll race”. However, William was left disappointed when it was Kate who was declared the winner.

But just as she looked to celebrate, one of the pipes on her structure fell down causing the princess to catch it – leaving her in floods of laughter.

Afterwards, apprentice Natalie Black guided Kate through the test and said afterwards: “We had a little discussion about what her kids get up to and I complimented her on how well she was doing up the bolts and she said it was just like playing with the kids’ toys.”

Kate was given another task – to complete a traditional ship’s clinometer, which measures the lean angle of a vessel – and tightened a wing nut on the simple tool which will go on display on HMS Glasgow’s bridge.

During the reception, the princess repeatedly spoke about how impressed she was by the sheer scale of the ship, the number of people involved in the build and the technology on board.

Talking to the ship’s company and their families, she said: “It’s so exciting to see it all come together, all the technology is so impressive,” adding, “What’s really interesting as well is seeing the international interest.”

She admitted that she was still getting to grips with the naval language, telling one woman: “I’m still learning all my naval lingo. There are a lot of abbreviations that I don’t fully understand. I’ve got a lot to learn.”

Second Sea Lord Vice Admiral Sir Martin Connell thanked the royal couple for their support and all those involved in the Type 26 endeavour.

He said: “From the first ever HMS Glasgow, sailing under the Royal Navy flag at the end of the 17th century to the ship we see here in the 21st century, HMS Glasgow has evolved and adapted to meet the warfighting and operational demands of its day.

“Each metamorphosis saw shipbuilders adapting materials and designs so that crews could operate each successive HMS Glasgow on operations and in conflict and war. The result of this being 11 battle honours – HMS Glasgow’s pedigree is awe-inspiring.”
