Liam Payne accused waiter speaks out about prison assault from behind bars

The waiter accused of selling cocaine to Liam Payne has spoken out about his treatment from other prisoners where he’s being held while a trial date goes unset

The waiter accused of selling drugs to Liam Payne before his death has spoken out from behind bars. Braian Paiz, 25, claimed he has been assaulted, burned and threatened by the other inmates while he waits to see if a trial date has been set.

Liam Payne died a year ago today, after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. The cause of death was ruled as ‘polytrauma’, which is where death occurs from multiple injuries. But a toxicology report showed traces of cocaine, and Paiz was arrested for selling it to the singer, which he denies.

The waiter has been in prison since January, after police raided his home. Most prisoners only spend a few weeks in the holding facility, and are then transferred to formal prisons, but Paiz has been there more than eight months.

From behind bars, Paiz has now done an interview where he alleges he has suffered multiple injuries inflicted by the other inmates. He has claimed that his fellow prisoners, who nicknamed him “Killer”, have assaulted him, hit him with a canister, burned him with boiling water and threatened to electrocute him.

Paiz spoke about his experience in a 30-minute interview with Gente Magazine, an Argentinian magazine. “I live with 15 people in a cell and they treat me like a rat.”

He was not more specific about how badly he had been hurt, but his lawyer, Juan Pablo Madeo Facente, told the Daily Mail that Paiz has been beaten, denied urgent medical care after contracting a urinary tract infection and now relies on anti-depressants.

He has been charged with selling cocaine to the One Direction star, but has yet to face a trial, as the authorities are still working through 800 hours of footage from CCTV and mobile phones. In Argentina, a judge must be presented with evidence to decide if a trial should go ahead before a date can be set. If a trial does go ahead, Paiz could face up to 15 years in prison.

He has admitted to giving drugs to Payne, but has denied taking money for them, which is the offence he’s been charged with. Paiz, who was arrested alongside hotel cleaner Ezequiel David Pereyra, 22, told The Sun that he wished the singer hadn’t died but did not regret meeting him.

He said: “I wish [Payne] hadn’t died and things were different. I used to feel regret about what happened, but actually I don’t regret meeting him as he was my idol and I was a big fan.”

Pereyra also spoke to The Sun and claimed the bosses of the hotel, Casa Sur Palermo, turned a blind eye to Payne’s drug use. He told the publication that the hotel had the singer in “an isolated bunker” and “let him do anything he wanted” because “he was making them too much money”.

“But I think the biggest mistake was not calling an ambulance when Payne passed out in the lobby,” he added. “If the hotel had acted differently, Liam could have been saved.”

Pereyra claimed Liam was moved from the lobby “because that day they had many foreign guests checking in”. Detailing the tragic moments that followed, the cleaner said the bosses called police instead of an ambulance after leaving Liam in his room alone.

He claimed by the time they made the call, “it was already too late.” Pereyra claimed Liam’s death could have been prevented and was “very sad”.

The police investigation has contradicted this and revealed that the hotel receptionist called the ambulance at 5pm, once Liam had been taken to his room.

The Mirror reached out to Casa Sur Palermo when Pereyra’s allegations were published.

Meghan Markle raises eyebrows by flaunting her royal title after making ‘another dig’

Meghan Markle posted a new Instagram reel about her trip to summit in Washington, DC, where it was clocked she showed off her royal title yet again in yet another way

Meghan Markle has raised eyebrows after a hidden detail in her latest Instagram post points to her royal title.

In her brand new social media post, Meghan shared a highlights reel of her time in Washington DC, where she was a speaker at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit.

The clip shows the duchess being driven past the US capital’s most recognisable sights before she arrives at the venue for her appearance and talks on stage before catching a plane back to California.

Early in the clip as Meghan arrives to speak at the summit, a suitcase can be seen pulled through a hotel, with a bag placed on top, bearing the initials ‘DS’ – thought to relate to her royal title Duchess of Sussex.

Earlier this year, Meghan became embroiled in controversy in a row over using her HRH title, which appears to go against an agreement with the late Queen.

Both Meghan and Prince Harry gave up their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles when they stepped down as senior royals in March 2020. But in a podcast interview, a picture is shown of a gift card Meghan sent to a friend that read: “with the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex”.

The bag appearing to show Meghan’s monogram comes after she appeared to take yet another subtle swipe during her appearance at the summit, when she was quizzed on her business plans.

Since they sensationally stepped back from royal life, the Sussexes have signed lucrative deals with the likes of Netflix, while Meghan has launched her As Ever brand, fronted a podcast and had her own lifestyle show.

But at the conference, the Duchess said five years ago, which ties in with her and Harry’s move to the US, “it was a very different situation” – and in what could be seen as a jab at her former life, she added her only plans were to “nest and heal”.

She told Fortune editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell: “You know, Archie was so little, and I had just got pregnant with Lili around that same time, so we were nesting – nesting and healing.

“And also, I don’t know, I had the bandwidth at that time to think about what the big picture dream was. There was no plan.

“It was just, let’s get through these next couple of years, create community, which was always so important to both of us in our new environment.”

“I was probably in Birkenstocks and sweats like the rest of us, especially during Covid, or just barefoot at home, but I was making a lot of jam, so it ended up becoming the thing that really was my passion project.”

Meghan’s appearance at the summit yesterday came at a busy time for the Duchess. She travelled solo to Paris for the Balenciaga show on October 4, ahead of a string of appearances last week with the Duke of Sussex in New York.

And Meghan also admitted that she flew home to California from Europe for just one day before heading to New York, because she needed to see her “babies”.

Meghan said she made a 6,000-mile dash home for a brief reunion with Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, instead of heading straight to the Big Apple.

BBC hit back at Gregg Wallace’s harassment claim and say he’s not entitled to damages

The BBC has said Gregg Wallace is not “entitled to any damages” in response to his High Court claim alleging that the broadcaster and one of its subsidiaries caused him “distress and harassment”.

Last week it was revealed Wallace, who was sacked from BBC’s MasterChef earlier this year, is claiming up to £10,000 in damages from BBC and BBC Studios Distribution following his axe from the show. The former TV chef has claimed they allegedly caused him “distress and harassment” by failing to disclose to him his personal data.

He was dismissed from the show following an independent investigation into historical allegations of misconduct. The report found 45 allegations of misconduct were substantiated, including inappropriate language and humour.

In its defence filed at the High Court, Jason Pobjoy KC, for the BBC, said: “It is denied that the claimant has suffered any distress or harassment as a result of the responses of the BBC.”

He continued, according to PA: “It is denied that the claimant is entitled to any damages, interest or other relief, whether as pleaded or otherwise.”

The broadcast also denied that Mr Wallace has “suffered any distress or harassment” as a result of its responses. While documents also allege Wallace failed to give the BBC prior notice of his intention to file legal proceedings.

Freddie Flintoff shares ‘guilt’ over Ricky Hatton’s death after last day together

Freddie Flintoff has paid tribute to Ricky Hatton and spoken about the ‘guilt’ he feels over the late boxer’s death.

On Piers Morgan Uncensored, he gave an emotional interview and said: “There’s almost a guilt… How people didn’t know? And the one thing I found in recent years, over the past few years, it’s happened to more and more people.

“With Graham Thorpe in cricket who [was an] absolute great man, someone who is thought of so dearly by everyone who played with and everyone he’s coached. You just feel like, if only we would have known. But you know it’s terrible.”

He also added that Ricky’s death hit “quite close to home”, as they’ve known each other for years. “It’s quite close to home in a lot of ways. Ricky, one of the great men, you know, I met him years ago.

“We did a thing for Sky Sports and I went on the pads and he started hitting me and I was a fan as well… He’s charming, he’s funny, our careers run parallel with each other at the height, at the same time. I went to his fights… We had nights out in the Press Club in Manchester and we’ve sung karaoke together and I never knew all these things that he was struggling with until we sat down.”

Freddie added that when they started talking, Ricky was very honest about his mental health and the cricketeer could “relate” to that. “When we started talking, obviously, he was so honest about what he had been going through and what he felt. And then, as he was talking, I was, like, relating to it. I’ve felt like that, that’s what I’ve been like. Then it just turned into a chat about two blokes being really honest. I suppose that documentary changed and I wasn’t going to give as much away about myself but then felt obliged to actually if he’s doing this.”

“He’s this working class hero from Manchester who goes into the ring, he fights, all heart. He’s funny. You see him like doing stand up routines at press conferences and he feels like this. And then obviously what’s happened over the past two weeks, it’s been devastating. For obviously his friends, his family but anyone who has been in contact with Ricky.”

An inquest was opened into Ricky’s death opened with coroner Alison Mutch telling the court Hatton was found unresponsive in his bedroom by Mr Speak, who was due to accompany the fighter to Dubai the same day for a press conference to officially announce his comeback fight.

A post-mortem examination was carried out and although the full results are not yet known, a provisional cause of death was given as ‘hanging’. A full inquest will take place on March 20.

Last week, thousands of mourners lined the streets for Ricky’s private memorial service. It was attended by Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, Wayne Rooney, Tyson Fury and Freddie himself.

Following his death, his family gave an emotional statement that read: “Richard was so much more than a world champion. To us he was simply ‘Richard’, our son. A loving father, grandfather and brother, and a true friend to many. He had a heart as big as his smile and his kindness, humour and loyalty touched everyone who was lucky enough to know him.”

Vicky Pattison’s attempt to look sexy on Strictly leaves her looking like Ricky Gervais

Vicky Pattison’s dance partner Kai Widdrington has poked fun at her for looking like ‘David Brent from The Office’ when she attempted to do a sultry Samba shake

Vicky Pattison is trying to swot up on the Samba – after looking “like David Brent” with her first attempts at being sexy for Strictly Come Dancing this week.

Appearing on her own podcast with her pro partner Kai Widdrington, the pair spoke about training this week and on their new dance routine they are learning.

Kai, 30, said: “Vicky gave me a demonstration. And I’d like to say that she was playing up to the cameras, but I don’t think she was. I said ‘give me your best Samba shake’. It was giving David Brent from The Office. I just wanted her to never do that again so we could find the shake.”

Thankfully things are improving and he added: “She’s actually good. Yeah, I’m not duping her this week. She said to me today, after we did the routine, she was like, I actually like this one, which I never thought I’d hear. She seems to be, like, growing in confidence.”

Vicky, 37, responded saying: “As a woman, I’ve spent the last 30 years of my life trying to make my bits not shake when I move. Like, all my lumps and bumps have been, like, just sucked so nothing’s moving.

“And like, now all of a sudden you’re being told to make them move. Yeah. Like, that’s very unnatural for me, and I like me, things where they belong. I don’t want them shaking all over the shop.”

The samba routine follows last week’s Charleston which Vicky admits was a “disaster” where they managed 25 out of 40 and received some criticism from judges.

But the final performance was much better than things could have been if viewers had seen their final rehearsals.

Vicky explained: “Saturday was just like a disaster from start to finish. You know me little headdress thing, obviously I had a wig as well. Yeah. So they put that on. We were dancing at the dress rehearsal. And obviously there’s a move where my head goes down and comes up, and the head piece just totally detached from the wig and fell over me face.

“And I kept trying to shove it up, and it just kept falling back over my eyes. Kai’s going ‘continue carry on’. And, honestly, I was so stressed out and angry, I tried to stop.”

“And then when I was finished, that is in the official dress rehearsal, Tess goes ‘Oh, you had a bit of stress there with your head piece there’. I said, me f**king wig fell off.”

The full interview with Vicky and Kai is on the latest episode of the Get A Grip Podcast, out now.
