The allegations that are set forth in the superseding indictment at the heart of Friday’s hearing have been entered by Sean “Diddy” Combs have entered a not-guilty plea.
The music mogul is accused of using threats to accomodate his employees as well as long hours of sleepless nights as well as using threats to accomodate his demands in the superseding indictment.
The controversial rapper donned grey hair and a grey beard as he entered the courtroom on March 14. Combs responded, “I’m fine,” before pleading not guilty, and Judge Arun Subramanian inquired whether he wanted him to read the superseding indictment.
The trial is scheduled to begin on May 12, according to the judge, who announced the jury selection would begin on May 5. Diddy’s attorneys suggested that the jury selection process should start on May 5 and May 6 with two written questionnaire days, according to a legal filing filed on Thursday. We ask that the Jury Clerk summon 300 jurors on May 5, 2025 to complete written questionnaires administered and supervised by the Jury Clerk on-site at the courthouse.
We ask that the Jury Clerk call an additional 300 jurors on May 6 for the same task as they did the written questionnaires. The parties would then gather and review the completed questionnaires and file for-cause lawsuits between May 6 and May 8, 2025, with the Court receiving notice on May 9, 2025.
Diddy’s children were seen entering the building to support their father before the hearing. Diddy’s mother, Janice, and Christian Combs, both 18, entered the courtroom on foot, and Chance, both 18, and Christian Combs, both 26, entered the room separately.
The rapper’s lawyer and the judge discussed the case’s legal arguments at Friday’s hearing over the 2016 hotel security camera footage of his altercation with his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The video was shown by CNN, with Combs’ attorneys claiming that it had been “substantially altered.”
CNN, however, refutes the assertion. CNN never altered the video, according to a company spokesman, and it never destroyed the original source’s tapes. If the parties can’t decide whether the footage can be used during the trial, the judge said that both sides would need to file motions.
In the 2016 clip, which hotel surveillance found, the rapper physically assaulted Cassie in the hallway. He later apologized in public on Instagram for the shocking footage, saying he was “truly sorry.”
Combs posted a since-deleted apology video on Instagram at the time the video was released. He accepted full responsibility for his actions and declared his behavior inadmissible.
In her lawsuit filed in November 2023, the music mogul had previously refuted Cassie’s claims of physical and sexual abuse. Cassie mentioned the hotel incident in the lawsuit.
