Katie Price shares mum Amy’s heartbreaking new health battle after lung transplant

Reality TV star Katie Price gave a heart-wrenching update on her mother, Amy, who is battling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Katie shared the struggles her family has been facing as Amy’s health continues to decline. Amy, who was diagnosed with IPF in 2017, had a lung transplant in November 2022 in hopes of improving her condition.

However, last year, she spoke about how her health was fluctuating, with good days and bad days, and her condition was unpredictable. Katie spoke about her mother’s ongoing challenges on a recent episode of The Katie Price Show, which she hosts alongside her sister Sophie.

Katie said to her mum, who was also part of the podcast: “I do feel you for you mum, because people have to understand what my mum’s gone through, like her brain is just so active and still switched on. She can’t do the things that she used to do, which is frustrating for her”.

The former glamour model continued: “” Now here’s an example, because I am a patient person but when my mother teases me and says let’s go look at the shops in Isle of Wight, shall I take my walker or wheelchair and I’m like ‘ no we’re taking your wheelchair because I’m not taking an hour’. “Amy, vouching for herself, replied:” It’s not doing me any good because I’m meant to walk to help myself. “Katie also mentioned that Amy might attend the Isle of Wight Festival this year. Amy said:” I hopefully should be walking. “

Earlier this year, Katie revealed that while she’d never been a smoker she quickly got drawn in by vapes, and started suspecting something could be wrong with her own lungs. On Snapchat, 46-year-old Katie shared that she was heading up to London for the day, and soon revealed that she was getting her lungs scanned. The star admitted that she was” nervous “to undergo the tests, but said that it had to be done. She then posted plenty of photos and videos from the medical practice, showing herself going through various exams.

She later said:” So I thought I’d give an update about yesterday when I went and had my lungs checked. Obviously I had them checked because my mum had a lung transplant, and to see if it’s genetic and to see if vaping has affected my lungs or anything like that. But my lungs are absolutely perfect, nothing wrong with them, and he gave me advice how to get off the vapes. So I’m starting to wean myself off the vapes. But yeah it’s all good news, they’re all working well and they’re really good lungs, especially for my age. So all good! I’m all healthy! “

Just after news of her lung check, Katie was spotted at the airport with her boyfriend ahead of a getaway with a twist, joined boyfriend JJ Slater, 31. The couple held hands as she wheeled a pink suitcase around duty free, with Katie showing off her mass of tattoos in a cropped tee and comfy sweatpants. The loved-up duo is believed to be en-route to Turkey, blasting rumours that they’ve split. The tip isn’t just a holiday, however, with Katie set to have even more cosmetic surgery, just a couple of months after she underwent a dramatic £10, 000 face lift.

Gene Hackman’s dog’s cause of death update as medics reveal star died days after wife

There was a major update into the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa.

The duo were found dead on February 26 at home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. One of their three dogs was also found deceased. Now, as experts updated the public on their findings, the canine’s cause of death is not yet known.

The cause of death for their dog Zinna is yet to be confirmed with autopsy results still pending. However, Dr Erin Phipps from New Mexico Department of Health noted that canines do not get ill from hantavirus – a rare disease that is said to have been the cause of Betsy’s death.

Hantaviruses are a group of viruses that are carried by rodents and can cause serious illness and death in humans, according to US Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.

Just two days before Betsy’s thought to have passed, she had collected Zinna from the vets after a medical procedure had been carried out. She later emailed her massage therapist before heading out to go shopping around midday. Dr Heather Jarrell, New Mexico’s chief medical examiner, went on to tell reporters that she believed Betsy had died from the rare flu-like illness on February 11.

Dr Jarrell also explained that no trace of COVID 19 or influenza was found within Betsy, saying: “Testing for carbon monoxide was negative. There were no other significant natural disease findings. Pills present on scene, or thyroid medication, which were being taken as prescribed and is not currently a concern for a contributory cause of death”.

Speaking regarding Gene’s death, she continued: “The cause of death for Mr. Gene Hackman, aged 95 years, is hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease as a significant contributory factor”. When she explained the timing surrounding the pair’s death, she said: “Mr. Hackman’s initial pacemaker data revealed cardiac activity on February 17, subsequent pacemaker interrogation demonstrating an abnormal rhythm of atrial fibrillation on February 18, which was the last record of heart activity.

” Based on this information, it is reasonable to conclude that Mr. Hackman probably died around February 18, based on the circumstances, it is reasonable to conclude that Ms Hackman passed away first February, 11, being the last time that she was not to be alive last week. “However, she did state:” There is no reliable scientific method to accurately determine the exact time or date of death. “

How Gene Hackman’s wife Betsy Arakawa contracted rare rodent disease hantavirus

Gene Hackman’s wife Betsy Arakawa likely caught hantavirus – the vile disease which killed her – as she was reportedly exposed to rat droppings in the couple’s garage and outhouses.

Betsy, 65, could have caught the disease – described as a fever-like illness – from cleaning those areas in the couple’s property in Santa Fe, New Mexico, it is said tonight.

Gene and Betsy’s dog was also found dead in the house. Authorities note that while there is evidence that dogs can catch the virus, the animals do not show symptoms and there are no recorded cases of them passing the virus on to humans.

But an expert said simply inhaling dust that has been in the same environment as rodents can cause the contraction of the lung infection. Dr David Quammen, an infectious disease expert in Montana not involved in the case, added: “In terms of hantavirus getting communicated to humans, that would generally happen through mouse urine embedded in dust in a dusty building, so in a shed or a garage, where the mice were running around. Then, if someone came in and swept up that dust, inhaling that dust would be enough to give them hantavirus. “

Gene, 95, was negative for the virus and died from natural causes, including Alzheimer’s disease, it has emerged. The two-time Oscar winner had lived in the hillside property with his wife, a classical pianist, for several years.

And police say it did not appear Betsy struggled with mobility in her final months. She has been regularly pictured on CCTV – even in the days leading up to her death – walking around the residency and leaving to go on shopping trips.

Tests show, though, the deadly fluid – caused by hantavirus – had built up in her lungs, and the rare disease killed the musician. It is transmitted through the inhaling virus particles from rodent saliva, urine, or feces. It may also spread through rodent bites. In the US, deer mice are the most common carriers.

Symptoms typically show up within one to eight weeks of exposure to infected rodents. Signs include fatigue, fever, muscle aches, headache, dizziness, chills, and abdominal or digestive issues. After four to 10 days of the early symptoms, patients may experience shortness of breath, chest tightness, and fluid in the lungs.

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told Mail Online there have been 129 cases of hantavirus confirmed in New Mexico since 1993, including seven in 2023, the most recent year data is available.

The agency “is in contact with health officials in New Mexico who determined a woman has died of hantavirus infection. ” It added: “Her blood samples tested positive for a recent hantavirus infection at the state health department lab and the University of New Mexico Medical Center.

“CDC has offered to test samples to learn more about the strain of virus that infected the individual and to perform pathology testing. “

We moved into my current home in September 2021, and Tom only had eight months in this place, but I feel like he picked it for me. Will gradually moved in. There wasn’t a specific date, but he moved in when it felt right for all of us. Right now, we don’t have any plans to move elsewhere and we’ve made this our home”.

Tom Cruise movie halts filming as ‘very famous’ co-star rushed to hospital

Actor Tom Cruise’s latest cinematic venture has hit a snag as production came to a standstill following an on-set injury to one of its stars.

The 62-year-old Hollywood icon is tackling the role of a megalomaniac in the upcoming film, tentatively titled Judy. He shares the screen with the likes of John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, and Riz Ahmed.

However, drama unfolded at Pinewood Studios when a high-profile cast member was rushed to hospital with serious injuries to their pelvis and leg. A source claimed: “The actor is renowned for loving spectacular stunts which obviously involve some element of danger and the risk of injury – though they always strive to keep any risk to an absolute minimum”.

With the injured star being a major name, the insider revealed that the production could face losses in the “millions” during the actor’s recovery period. They added to The Sun: “This incident won’t just be alarming in terms of having someone so famous suffer such a major injury, it will also prove costly on a project which has cost millions and is on a very tight schedule”.

Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu is steering this ship, marking his return to English language films since the acclaimed ‘ The Revenant ‘ in 2015. Iñárritu penned the script last year alongside Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, his collaborators from the 2014 hit ‘ Birdman’, and Sabina Berman.

The film is slated for an October 2026 release. Inarritu’s 2014 masterpiece ‘ Birdman ‘ bagged four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, with its lead Michael Keaton earning a nomination for Best Actor. His subsequent film ‘ The Revenant ‘ was another Oscar triumph, securing Inarritu his second Best Director award, a Best Actor win for DiCaprio, and an additional accolade for cinematography.

Last month, Tom was hailed as a “legend” by fans for a death-defying stunt. The actor, who is also known for his roles in Jerry Maguire, War of the Worlds, and Vanilla Sky, revealed he “passed out multiple times” during a recent risky stunt. For it, he clung to the side of an airborne vehicle, with minimal safety measures to prevent a potentially fatal fall.

While shooting the stunt on an airplane for Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning, he faced a life-threatening challenge. He admitted he had to learn how to breathe with reduced oxygen levels. In an interview with Empire magazine, Cruise said: “When you stick your face out, going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen. So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically, I was unable to get back into the cockpit”.
