Billy Ray Cyrus slammed for ‘trainwreck’ Donald Trump inauguration performance

Billy Ray Cyrus faced backlash after his performance at Donald Trump’s Liberty Ball.

During the event, technical issues disrupted his set, forcing him to perform Old Town Road without proper equipment. Struggling with the issues, he tried singing a cappella but was overheard asking the crew if his guitar was working. At one point, Cyrus asked: “Is my guitar still on? I think they cut me off. I don’t hear my guitar anymore. “

Cyrus even pointed to his guitar during the performance, asking the crew: “Is anyone awake? I don’t hear it. Do y’all hear it? Is anyone back there? Can somebody turn my guitar back on? We’re going to sing a bit more. ” Frustrated by the ongoing problems, he openly questioned whether to continue. He told the audience: “Y’all want me to sing more or you just want me to get the hell off the stage? I don’t give a damn. ” Earlier in the night, Carrie Underwood also faced technical difficulties when her backing track failed, forcing her to sing without music.

Fans took to social media to comment on Cyrus’s performance. One user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Billy Ray Cyrus is giving a trainwreck performance at Donald Trump’s Inaugural Liberty Ball. WTF is going on? ” Another added: “This is just plain embarrassing,” while a third described it as “possibly the cringiest few minutes in entertainment history. “

Last year, the Achy Breaky Heart singer performed at the funeral of Corey Comperatore, a man shot and killed at a Donald Trump rally. The 76-year-old presidential candidate was also injured during the rally when Thomas Matthew Crooks attacked him in Pennsylvania. Comperatore, a 50-year-old Army reservist and former fire chief, reportedly “died trying to protect his family. ” At the remembrance service, held on July 19, 2024, Cyrus, 62, sang the classic hymn “Amazing Grace. “

A source told People: “Corey Comperatore is an Army reservist veteran and former firefighter chief. [Cyrus] has always been passionate about honoring troops and first responders. Today, he was honored to join the family and perform during the service. “

Cyrus also performed “Some Gave All,” the final track on his 1992 debut album of the same name. The service began with a procession of around 500 fire trucks, which drove from the church to the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company in Sarver, Comperatore’s hometown and workplace for many years.

At one point, Cyrus pointed to his guitar and asked the crew: 'Is anyone awake? I don't hear it. Do y'all hear it? Is anyone back there?'

This comes after Trump himself paid tribute to the Army veteran, describing him as an “unbelievable person” following the tragic incident.

He said: “Tragically the shooter claimed the life of one of our fellow Americans, Corey Comperatore, unbelievable person, everybody tells me. He was incredible, he was a highly respected former fire chief. He lost his life selflessly acting as a human shield to protect them from flying bullets. He went right over the top of them and was hit.

“What a fine man he was Immediately after the incident, Crooks was shot dead by police on the scene and Comperatore – who is survived by his wife and two daughters – was remembered by his family as a “beloved father and husband, and a friend to so many throughout the Butler region. “

But since his funeral, Liam has left a legacy that will contribute to building a new children’s cancer unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Liz Tait, the hospital’s director of fundraising, expressed deep gratitude: “We’re extremely touched and grateful for all the donations in memory of Liam, which will go towards building a brand new children’s cancer centre at Great Ormond Street. ” She added, “Our thoughts and sincere condolences continue to go out to Liam’s family and friends. “

An insider revealed that while Payne’s loved ones are still reeling from the loss, there is solace in the impact of his legacy. Speaking to The Sun, they said: “Everyone is still coming to terms with the tragic loss of Liam, but there is some comfort in knowing the legacy he leaves behind.

“Everyone is still coming to terms with the tragic loss of Liam, but there is some comfort in knowing the legacy he leaves behind. ” They also noted the generosity at his service: “Everyone dug deep at the service and the amount raised is staggering — it will help change lives. “

The source went on to explain that while music was one of Liam’s passions, he cared about helping others and was inspired by his son, Bear. Shortly after Liam’s heartbreaking death, the Mirror revealed that in his final hours, he was still helping others and donated huge sums of money to people to help pay for their medical treatment.

One of those was Jack, 28, 2ho is battling Stage 4 B Cell Lymphoma. Liam donated $3,000 to Jack, who revealed he was left blown away when he saw the musicians name appear on his GoFundMe page. He told us: “I thought it was a prank or someone donating under a false name in the interest of preserving their own anonymity, until reports started coming out about Liam’s acts of kindness during his final days. “

He continued: “Once we started seeing other reputable sources saying Liam had donated to my GoFundMe, it became sort of surreal. I’m so thankful and I feel extremely lucky. ” Liam’s funeral saw a star-studded turnout with ex Cheryl Tweedy, Simon Cowell, James Corden, and his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik all in attendance. The service encouraged attendees to donate, as stated on the order of service card: “Thank you for attending the service and thank you for all the kind messages received. Liam would like you to make a donation. In memory of Liam, we’d like you to consider Great Ormond Street Hospital. “

Adding to the tributes, Odeon cinemas across the UK brought back the 1D tour documentary This Is Us for a one-off showing last week, with all ticket revenue supporting mental health organisations MIND, SAMH, and AWARE NI.

Pauline Quirke beams in last public appearance two years after dementia diagnosis

Pauline Quirke made a public appearance – despite battling dementia.

Steve Sheen, the actresses husband announced on Tuesday that the actress, 65, had been diagnosed with the condition in 2021 and has made the decision to step back from all work. Although she’s appeared in the likes of Emmerdale, Broadchurch and The Sculptress, she’s best known for playing Sharon Theodopolopodous in the ITV sitcom, Birds of a Feather.

The programme ran between October 1989 until December 1998. It was later decommissioned by ITV bosses, airing from January 2 2014, to December 24, 2020. Despite her battle with the cruel condition, Pauline made a rare appearance in 2023 as she attended a special ceremony at Windsor Castle on February 1.

Hackney-born Pauline was awarded an MBE in the 2022 Birthday Honours for services to young people, the entertainment industry and charity. Away from her career on stage, in 2017, she launched The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts across the country, setting up the extracurricular centre for young people who want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Since its launched, Pauline has opened over 200 branches across the UK. The actress was awarded the special honour by Prince William at the ceremony as she beamed at the heir to the throne when he placed the medal on her chest. Despite her inner turmoil, Pauline was all smiles for the occasion as she posed for a snap inside the quadrangle of the Castle, while holding her honour.

On January 21, 2025, her husband announced that the actress would be stepping down from all public roles due to her condition. In a moving statement, Steve, who also worked on Birds of a Feather said: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce my wife Pauline’s decision to step back from all professional and commercial duties due to her diagnosis of Dementia in 2021.

“Pauline has been an inspiration through her work in the film and TV industry, her charity endeavours and as the founder of the very successful Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA). Her talent, dedication, and vision have touched countless lives and will continue to do so through the legacy of her work and through PQA where her vision and guidance has facilitated many young peoples’ progression and interest in the Arts and enhanced their self-confidence. Pauline is perhaps best known as Sharon Theodopolopodous from Birds of a Feather, the hilarious sitcom that ran for nearly 30 years.

“In drama, her BAFTA-nominated role in The Sculptress, was outstanding, as was her role as the mysterious Susan Wright in ITV’s Broadchurch. Demonstrating her acting versatility, she also starred or appeared in more than 60 TV and film productions, including Carrie’s War, North and South, Casualty, Cold Blood, Thieving Headmistress, My Family, You, Me and the Apocalypse, and of course Emmerdale. “

He went on to add: “During her epic 50 year career, Pauline has been nominated for many awards, including Best TV Comedy Actress in the British Comedy Awards, Best Newcomer in the British Soap Awards and has received multiple nominations for Most Popular Actress and Most Popular Comedy Performer in the National Television Awards.

“In 2022, Pauline was awarded an MBE in the late Queen’s final Birthday Honours. It was a heartfelt recognition of her incredible work with young people, her contributions to entertainment, and her dedication to charitable causes.

“Her acting career has now come to a close, but Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA), with its network of approximately 250 academies and over 15,000 students across the UK, remains robust and will continue to operate as normal in accordance with Pauline’s ideology. Our experienced senior leadership team will maintain the Academies’ success and growth, building on the foundations, ethos and philosophy that Pauline has inspired from the beginning in 2007.

“We kindly request privacy and understanding for Pauline and our family during this difficult period. For the time being we will not be engaging in interviews or making further statements, since Pauline just wants to spend time with her family, children and grandchildren. We are deeply grateful for the support from her peers, the public, and the dedicated staff and Principals at PQA. “

Hilary Evans-Newton, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said in a statement on Tuesday: “We are saddened to hear of Pauline’s diagnosis and send our best wishes to her, Steve and the wider family. The family should be praised for making the brave decision to make her diagnosis public, which will not only provide more freedom for them, but also raise such vital awareness of the condition.

“We’re so grateful that Pauline and Steve have pledged to support our work when the time is right. We look forward to working with them to raise further awareness of dementia and funds for research. “

Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall reveals she was “ghosted” by Harry Styles after just one date

Jade Thirlwall has revealed for the first time how she was “ghosted” by Harry Styles after just one date.

The former Little Mix singer met the ‘Watermelon Sugar’ hitmaker when they both auditioned for ‘The X Factor’ as teenagers and though they sparked a connection, once Harry – who had auditioned to be a solo artist – was put into One Direction and the group made it through to the finals of the TV competition, he stopped contact with Jade, now 32.

Speaking to Louis Theroux on his podcast, she said: “I didn’t know he was going to be Harry Styles did I? I think we went on like one date when again, we were like 16 or something. Yeah, he’d just got put in the band. And it was really funny because we kept in touch.

“The minute they went on the live shows, he didn’t message me back and I thought that’s it now, he’s gone, he’s made it. “

But Jade admitted Harry, 30, apologised to her when they saw one another on the show the following year, when she was part of Little Mix.

She added: “And then I made it the next year and then I saw him in the room after, and he was like, I’m really sorry that I ignored you. ’ “

Louis, 54, asked: “He ghosted you? “

His guest confirmed: “Yeah. I was so young, it didn’t really matter. But he was always very, very lovely. “

But the ‘Power’ singer insisted Harry is a great person.

She gushed: “He gotten himself where he is because he’s very talented. He’s very lovely, very charming. “

Elsewhere on the podcast, the ‘Angel of My Dreams’ hitmaker revealed her boyfriend, Jordan Stephens, had confronted Noel Gallagher at Glastonbury after he criticised Little Mix’s Brit Award win for Best Group in 2021 – but it didn’t go well.

Jade said: “I saw him at Glastonbury that year, actually. Jordan was like, ‘I’m gonna go over and say something. ‘ I was like, ‘Alright then, give it a go. ‘

“They went over and was like, ‘You are really rude to my girlfriend. Do you want to apologise? ‘ He went, ‘F*** off! ‘ And I thought, do you know what? Fair play. “

Noel had fumed about the ‘Black Magic’ group’s win and insisted they were not “the real deal”.

He said: “Little Mix, with the greatest respect, are not in the same league as Oasis. Not even in the same f****** sport.

“It’s a symptom of the music business chasing the numbers – and there not being any bands or songwriters in those bands.

“Record company guys constantly say, ‘Oh, these guys are the real deal’. And I think, ‘You wouldn’t know the real deal if it f****** bit you on the a***, mate. ‘ I don’t know what happened — I think it’s because bands are hard work. “

‘I’ve been using Shark’s CryoGlow LED Face Mask for three months and these are my results’

As a beauty editor, I’m lucky enough to get a sneak peek at new products before they hit the shelves. Last year, Shark Beauty gave me a heads up about its latest launch: the CryoGlow LED Face Mask, priced at £299. 99. Marking the brand’s first foray into the UK skincare market and tapping into the growing trend for at-home beauty treatments that promise salon-quality results, the CryoGlow is the UK’s first LED light therapy mask that combines LED routines with cooling technology.

Its ‘instachill’ feature can help reduce puffiness under the eyes in just 5 minutes. Plus, with 160 tri-wick LEDs covering your entire face, it targets fine lines and wrinkles, promising smoother, younger-looking skin in as little as eight weeks. It all sounds amazing, right? But with a price tag that hefty, what everyone really wants to know is, whether the results warrant the cost.

Zoe shares her thoughts below after testing it for over three months, but first, a bit about the mask itself that makes the price justified…

The mask modes:

Blemish Repair mode: This 8-minute session combines blue, red & Infrared light to help reduce the appearance of textured, uneven skin and blemishes for smooth, glowing skin with an automated 3-phase routine.

Better Aging mode: A 6-minute session utilising red & infrared technology, aimed at helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Skin Sustain mode: A 4-minute session of red, blue and infrared LEDs to help enhance skin radiance and maintain skin condition, used after an 8-week course of either Skin Brightening or Better Ageing.

Under-eye Revive mode: With CryoGlow you can de-puff under eyes while targeting your skin concern. Adjustable 5-15 minutes under-eye cold therapy mode. It is the UK’s only mask that offers ‘instachill’ cold technology to help firm, tighten, soothe and brighten under-eyes.

Positives

Easy to set up and use: You just need to charge the battery up to 100%

Combines a cryo element: An ‘Instachill’ mode lets you de-puff under-eyes while targeting your skin concern, with three different temperature settings to choose from depending on how cool you want to go. You can also use the chill setting without any LED, if you prefer.

It’s very manoeuvrable: It’s attached to a battery-powered remote control, so you don’t have to be near a plug for it to work. You can even carry on with your daily tasks or watch telly while wearing it.

It offers a variety of modes: You can choose targeted treatments for blemishes, anti-ageing or overall skin health. Once the timed session is done, the mask will automatically end the treatment and give you the option to turn it off.

The sessions are quick: They only last four, six or eight minutes in total, so you don’t need to wear it for ages to see the benefits of the LED therapy.

Neutrals

Battery life: While it’s great that there’s no need to sit near a power source, the battery doesn’t last long – around three or four uses, so I find myself charging it quite a bit.

The fit: While I love how the mask tightens (it’s very user-friendly), I struggle to get the cryo pads under my eyes to sit properly. Maybe my face is just a bit too small for the mask.

Zoe’s results

Zoe, left, before using the mask most nights for three months, and right, after
Zoe, left, before using the mask most nights for three months, and right, after (Zoe Cripps)

I’m the perfect person to review an LED mask, having tried nearly every single one on the market—from the budget-friendly Magnitone mask (£75) to the high-end CELLRETURN Platinum LED Mask (almost £2k). I’ve experienced varying levels of success, with the Cellreturn mask delivering the best results. However, its hefty price tag makes it inaccessible for many. So, after returning it post my three-month trial, I was on the hunt for a more affordable alternative that delivers similar results.

After three months of using Shark’s CryoGlow Mask at least five times per week – I’ve been very diligent – I’m really happy to report I’ve seen some great changes to my skin. A combination of using both the anti-ageing red light and the blemish-reducing blue light has meant my skin looks much more even, less blotchy and has become less prone to breakouts and red marks. It’s also helped reduce the redness from the frequent bouts of rosacea I’m prone to on my cheeks.

I used the mask most days for 6-8 minutes on either the red or the blue light settings (I alternated between them each day) and with the under-eye cooling setting on max. I noticed within a few weeks that the redness and puffiness around my eye area in the mornings were starting to improve. Then came the skin texture and tone improvements at around the two-month mark.

The Shark CryoGlow mask has become a calming evening ritual that I look forward to, and even my boyfriend wants a piece of the action (he’s a fan of the blue light setting! ). Plus, I think my results fully justify its £299 price tag.

DETTY DECEMBER: LAGOS SETS HEIGHT FOR TOURISM, ENTERTAINMENT, ARTS – SANWO-OLU’S AIDE

•Generated over $71. 6m in revenue from events

Lagos State once again proved why it is the tourism and entertainment capital of Africa with an extraordinary December 2024 season as it generated over $71. 6 million in revenue across tourism, hospitality, and entertainment sectors.

During the season tagged ‘Detty December’, hotels alone accounted for over $44 million, while short-let apartments contributed over $13 million, underscoring Lagos’ immense economic potential as a destination city.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, spoke during the review of the ‘Lagos State Detty December 2024/2025 Report,’ with officials of Tantacom Experimental Projects and other stakeholders at the weekend.

Aregbe who also commended the report released recently by the MO Africa Consulting on the impressive millions of dollars revenues generated from the December, said tourism remains a vital driver of economic growth and cultural preservation for Lagos State, with the “Ember” season playing a key role.

It would be recalled that during the ‘Detty December,’ Lagos hosted a wide array of spectacular events that drew massive crowds and highlighted Nigeria’s rich heritage, among which were the Mrs. Universe Africa event, Greater Lagos Fiesta, music concerts, fashion shows, cultural exhibitions, culinary events, Spotify Wrapped Concert, Lungu Boy Block Party, Rhythm Unplugged, Entertainment Week Lagos, Joeboy, The La Vida Experience, African Fashion Week, and Fashion Souk.

The season also drew locals and members of the Nigerian diaspora, popularly known as IJGBs (I Just Got Back), as well as international tourists who were eager to experience the energy and diversity that make Lagos a global cultural destination.

Beyond the economic benefits, ‘December in Lagos’ has become a platform to celebrate Nigerian arts, culture, and music on a global stage. It fosters community spirit, strengthens ties with the diaspora, and reinforces Lagos as a destination of choice for cultural tourism.

Speaking on the success of the Detty December, Aregbe said the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is shaping a Lagos that blends tradition with creativity, creating unforgettable experiences for all. He noted that various activities held during the Detty December not only enriched the cultural landscape but also had a profound economic impact.

He said the progress recorded by the Lagos State Government reflects the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the support of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, noting that their dedication to fostering growth in tourism and culture laid the foundation for the achievements.

Aregbe said: “Tourism remains a vital driver of economic growth and cultural preservation for Lagos State, with the ‘Ember’ season playing a key role. This season represents a period of unity, vibrancy, and celebration, fuelled by the dynamic spirit of Lagosians.

“From enterprising artisans in local markets to creative entrepreneurs shaping the entertainment and tourism sectors, the resilience and ingenuity of Lagos people lie at the heart of its success. The participation of residents, alongside visitors from other states, has been fundamental in establishing Lagos as a cultural and tourism hub.

“As a government that listens and welcomes innovative ideas and collaborations, the insights from this season will be carefully studied, with key lessons factored into the 2025 Lagos Tourism is Rising campaign. As we reflect on these successes, we look forward to building on this momentum, creating more opportunities for Lagosians, and ensuring our city.

“As Lagos looks ahead to 2025 with the ‘Lagos Tourism is Rising’ campaign, the goal remains clear: to build on this momentum, celebrate our cultural richness, and solidify Lagos as a beacon of tourism, culture, and economic excellence.
