With her Bridgerton voice-over performance as Lady Whistledown, Dame Julie Andrews has finally received an Emmy Award.
The 89-year-old actress previously received awards for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and in 2025 she triumphed over strong opposition from Hank Azaria for The Simpsons, Maya Rudolph for Big Mouth, Alan Tudyk for Andor, and Jeffrey Wright for What If…? and Steven Yeun of Invincible.
Andrews, who was not present at the ceremony, was presented the award by Craig Robinson, the presenter of the 2025 Creative Arts Emmys.
Andrews previously received Emmy nominations for her roles as Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton in 2021 and 2022, and Queen Charlotte in 2023.
Bridgerton premiered on Netflix in 2020 and Andrews previously revealed she had never met any of her co-stars.
She continued, “You know, I’ve never met the company in person,” she said on the Today show. Of course, I occasionally see them on television. But I don’t get any shots when I record.

Not everyone is sucked into Tommy Shelby’s spell, though the Peaky Blinders movie is almost here. Carl Chinn, a historian, was disgusted by the discovery of his great-grandfather’s dark past.
“My great-grandfather was a real peaky blinder”, says Carl Chinn (Image: BBC/Caryn Mandabach/Robert Viglasky)
THE grisly world of Peaky Blinders became a phenomenon, thanks to Cillian Murphy’s charismatic anti-hero Tommy Shelby. And soon we should be welcoming them back on our screens – in full force. Netflix film Immortal Man has no confirmed release date yet, but with filming and post-production wrapped it is expected to be later this year or early next. Meanwhile, a seventh season is also in discussions with the BBC.
But while fans have fallen for the charms of the working-class gangsters with their twisted codes of honour, historian and Professor Carl Chinn argues the truth was far more grim. In his new book Peaky Blinders: The Real Gangs and Gangsters, he reveals they were simply indiscriminate thugs, who beat their wives and terrorised Birmingham’s backstreets without remorse. And he should know, his great-grandfather was one…….

By Professor Carl Chinn, MBE
Edward Derrick, a best-selling author, great-grandson of Peaky Blinder, is a social historian.
Despite the church bells ringing in 1909, hard man Billy Beach was not greeted with a new year’s eve cheer in backstreet Birmingham. When he saw the Sheldon Gang, his feared adversary, coming after him as he was emptying the leaves from his teapot.
He had been fighting with them for months and had defeated John Sheldon, their leader, in a straightener-a-man conflict. Sheldon sought revenge, appearing in jest.
“That’s him, there on the steps,” one of the gang shouted. A shot was fired, the bullet hit the back of Beach’s ear, and he flung a paraffin lamp at the Sheldons.
His wife fled upstairs after hearing glass crashing in a bedroom and being struck by another bullet. It grazed her 10-year-old daughter’s head, who was crying, “Oh, Mommy, something’s ‘it me.” She spent the rest of her life sleeping with a lump hammer under her pillow because she was traumatized.
Beach stormed into his attackers, striking out with his fists as Sheldon belaboured him with a pickaxe. His wife ran for the police and the gang scarpered, leaving behind a shambles. Blood was everywhere. In the snow, officers found a revolver with six spent cartridges, a pickaxe, a coal hammer covered with blood, another hammer and broken bottles. There was also a man knocked out by Beach. When asked in court if it was a free fight, Beach retorted: “If you call 10 to one a free fight.”

George Williams was a true gang member, as described in Prof. Carl Chinn’s most recent book.
In the Garrison Lane Vendetta, Beach’s gang quickly wreaked vengeance. Peaky Blinders was sparked by Steven Knight, the author, who claimed that “my dad’s uncle was from a family called the Sheldons, which in fiction became the Shelbys.)”
But other than a thirst for violence there is little in common between the Shelbys and their real-life counterparts. The Sheldons weren’t charismatic anti-heroes kind to children, respectful to women, and considerate to the elderly.
As did my ferocious great-grandfather, Edward Derrick, to my great-grandmother, Ada, who had viciously attacked women and brutally battered their girlfriends and wives. Samuel Sheldon exemplified the violent, thieving, and abusive peaky blinders. One of Birmingham’s most dangerous men was him.
Ada (right) is Professor Carl Chinn’s great-grandmother after having the guts to leave her violent husband.
Edward Derrick, the great-grandfather of Prof. Carl Chinn, appears in an early mugshot aged about 17 years old.
He was a member of the notorious Barr Street Slogging Gang and was sentenced to four months in prison for stoning the police and acting “with a violence that knew no bounds” at the age of 20.
The court was informed that Sheldon had “set himself to wreck the place” and that “One of the objects of his wrath” had sought shelter in a store. His 13th assault conviction was noteworthy.
Then came the worst. One of eight or nine roughshoes who smashed the windows of a 16-year-old girl’s home in 1889 was him. The evil men pursued her and “committed a most repulsive assault” against her. She bravely raised the alarm, and Sheldon, the fourth of the four detained, was later given a six-month sentence.

In March the next year, the term term peaky blinders first appeared in the press. As told in folklore and the series, it derived from their supposedly favoured weapon: the peak of their flat caps in which safety razor blades were sewn which blinded their foes when slashed across the eyes. Yet people who lived at the time indicated the real meaning referred to a fashion taken up by sloggers like Sheldon.
Ex-superintendent W. J. May joined the Birmingham Police in 1894. He noted, they wore their “hair short at the back and sides but with a well-greased forelock plastered over the forehead nearly to the eyebrows and upwards towards the left”. The forelocks were shown off by pulling the peaks of their caps to one side, almost covering, or blinding, their one eye.

My father, my great-grandad on my father’s side, was a thief and vicious, nasty man who badly abused Ada, according to older family members when I was a child. I researched his life and background more in-depth as a historian. He was reportedly a leader of Sparkbrook’s sloggers, making him my peaky blinder ancestor, according to reports.
The reign of the peaky blinders was ended before 1914. They disappeared through combative policing, sterner sentences for assaults on policemen, and the provision of football and boxing clubs for youths. Their disappearance was welcomed. They’d maimed policemen and killed several, triggered riots and launched racist attacks on Italians and Jews.

With buckled belts, knives, knuckle dusters, and other weapons, they had harmed horrifying victims in gang brawls. They terrorized neighborhoods, assaulting and inflicting wounds on neighbors, as well as blackmailing store owners, publicans, and concert hall managers.

They shouldn’t be forgotten or ignored for the fear and suffering they caused. I disapprove of my great-grandparent’s actions. The women were the backstreets’ true heroes, not them. They fought for decency in the face of class prejudice, male violence, and poverty, hoping that their children and grandchildren would have better lives in the future rather than just a day to pass.
The family’s life in Birmingham has had a significant impact on Professor Carl Chinn’s writings, as does his son, who is the son and grandson of an illegal bookmaker in back-street Birmingham.

Clare Balding, a broadcaster, admitted to cutting out some foods from her diet and sharing the details of her recent weight loss.

Beloved presenter Clare Balding revealed the specific foods she’s stopped eating as she shared her secret to losing weight. The 54-year-old BBC Sports presenter said that although she’s cut a few foods and drinks from her life, she doesn’t feel like she’s “depriving” herself of anything.
The broadcaster no longer eats pasta or bread after trying a low-carb diet, and tries to avoid sugar when she can. She also completely changed her approach to drinking alcohol and will replace a red wine with a gin and tonic. In a recent interview, Clare said: “I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself of things.”
The TV star no longer worries about what she wears because of her hard work, which has given her the “confidence” to do so.

Clare revealed the reasons behind her weight loss.
I have enormous bones, Clare continued in a conversation with Hello! However, I have a belt on, a pair of pants on, and a shirt tucked in, and I have spent years without being able to do that. That evokes a wonderful feeling.
Clare’s weight loss secrets come after she opened up about her major “house clear-out” with wife Alice Arnold in the coming months as they prepare to swap their London life for the countryside.
The couple currently reside in Chiswick. Their Tibetan terrier Archie was once walked around Chiswick House and along the Thames towpath.
She discussed her and her wife’s plans before moving to her new home.
However the couple faced a heart-wrenching moment in 2020 when they had to have their beloved pet put down. The TV star says he left a “dog-shaped hole in their hearts” ever since.
Moving to the countryside would make it easier for Clare and Alice to welcome a new furry friend into the family. However, Clare said she is a “hoarder” and will have to tackle a lot of packing and reorganising before the move.
Clare said, “I’m not very tidy,” when talking to Woman and Home about her worst habits. And I occasionally hoard things. We are going to do a significant house cleanout ahead of a move, which will really upset me because I don’t like getting rid of things.
Clare is optimistic that moving away from London’s hustle and bustle will create a “good environment” for a new dog.
She stated to The Times that she wanted to leave London because one of the main factors was that there would be a little more room and road protection for dogs.
It’s our plan, which will likely be implemented in the spring once we’ve settled in. I’m happy to see a dog back in our lives.

Within hours, Prince Harry will make his first appearance in London to attend the annual WellChild Awards and possibly reunite with his separated father. Here’s everything we know about Harry’s visit to UK shores and the potential royal reconciliation

Within mere hours, Prince Harry will be touching down in the UK for the first time since April to attend the WellChild Awards in London.
There has been much speculation around his visit, and questions over whether Harry will meet with King Charles, Prince William, or any of the royal family on his trip after years of public jabs and allegations levelled at the Firm, resulting in a bitter stalemate between the Sussex camp and the royal family.
Here’s everything we know so far about Harry’s rare visit to the UK and the possibility of a royal reconciliation…

Harry’s trip to the UK provided an explanation.
Harry is making the trip from his home in California to London for the WellChild Awards on Monday, to celebrate the achievements and resilience of seriously ill youngsters and their families.
Harry will be able to attend the annual award ceremony for his 15th time as he continues to serve as the charity’s patron for 17 years. After presenting an award to a motivational child between the ages of four and six, the Duke will spend time with each winner and their families at a preceremony reception.

The Duke stated in a WellChild statement that he enjoys being able to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families, and professionals who inspire us all with their determination and spirit.
These awards have been a shining light on the dedicated caregivers, both family and professionals, who support young people who have complex medical needs for 20 years. Their stories remind us of the power of compassion, connection and community. The ceremony’s opening day also coincides with Queen Elizabeth’s three-year anniversary.
traveling alone
While a meeting between Prince Harry and King Charles could be on the cards, Meghan Markle will maintain her self-imposed exile from Britain, opting to stay in California with the couple’s two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Since June 2022, when the Sussexes visited Charles for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the pair have not seen their grandchildren.
Harry will travel to the UK without his wife Meghan or their two children(Image: Getty Images)
Meghan recently spoke about the time she was separated from her children for three weeks, with the act making her “not well”. The Duchess of Sussex shared the confession in the second series of her Netflix programme, and while she did not elaborate on when she was apart from her children, there has been speculation she was referring to when the Sussexes unexpectedly remained in the UK due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
Given this, Harry will travel alone in the UK while she and Archie and Lilibet are staying with them.
A meeting between father and son
As King Charles is expected to be in the UK during Harry’s visit, many royal commentators and fans alike have speculated that the estranged father and son will reunite for the first time in almost two years.
His Majesty has been receiving cancer treatment, but the two haven’t seen one another since January of last year. A silent truce was called between Harry and his father, as they had a meeting lasting just 30 minutes.
Harry has long pleaded with King Charles and the royal family as a whole, and rumors of peace negotiations started to surface when senior aides to both Charles and Harry were spotted at a meeting in London in early July.
Many have speculated that Harry and Charles will reunite while Harry is in London(Image: POOL/AFP via Getty Images)
A US source told the Mirror that there is a strong possibility the pair will reunite, saying: “It’s clear there is now a determination on both sides to make this happen. Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry. For the first time in a long time, there’s a genuine sense that reconciliation is within reach.”
They continued: “After 20 months apart, and with the King continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step. This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings – it’s about a simple face-to-face conversation between a father and his son. The priority is privacy and dignity, but also ensuring the door stays open for further dialogue. As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand.”
While rumours have swirled about Prince Harry and King Charles meeting during the Duke of Sussex ’s brief trip to London, neither Buckingham Palace or the Sussex camp have confirmed such a meeting will take place.
Brothers at war
While Harry is expected to potentially have a long overdue reunion with his father King Charles during his rare trip to UK shores, it is extremely unlikely that the Duke of Sussex will see his estranged brother, Prince William.
After years of making public remarkations between the two princes, William is alleged to have firmly rejected any chance of a reunion with his brother. A source told the Mirror that Harry’s ongoing series of highly publicized allegations about the royal family have caused serious trust issues between the brothers.
The source said: “William feels Harry has repeatedly chosen public exposure over private resolution and that the Royal Family can’t keep being dragged into the headlines every time there’s a new contract to promote.”
Prince William has firmly declined any potential reunion with his brother(Image: POOL/AFP via Getty Images)
They continued, “The trust issue with Harry and Meghan is one of trust.” They have lost all confidence in their ability to keep things private or their criticisms ever since moving to North America. For there to be any chance of moving forward, that trust has to be rebuilt, and Team Sussex knows the onus is on them. “
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond also weighed in on Harry and William’s relationship in light of the Duke of Sussex’s trip to the UK, as she told the Mirror that while Harry may reach out to some members of the royal family during his trip, he is unlikely to try and contact his brother.
She said, “Harry may well see some of his cousins, like Eugenie or Beatrice, but there aren’t likely to be a meeting with William or Catherine.” The rift between the brothers remains too deep and William has far too much going on in his life to worry about the Harry problem.
In a family dispute, “I would never say never.” It’s possible that William and Harry will find a resolution as the years pass. But that day – if it ever comes, and it may not – is not any time soon”.
security affliction
In May 2025, Prince Harry sensationally lost his Court of Appeal challenge over his security arrangements while in the UK. After the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) removed his high-level police protection when he stepped back from Royal duties and moved to the US in 2020, the Duke of Sussex took his case to court and lost.
Harry, who had previously argued that while he wanted to bring his wife and two children to the UK, it was not safe to do so without the help of taxpayer-funded police protection, was dealt a massive blow by the decision.
Prince Harry will undoubtedly be traveling with his own private security escort regardless of the ruling. He is not automatically entitled to public protection while traveling in the UK.
Meanwhile…
Ahead of the Prince’s visit reports have emerged suggesting he has not given up hope of returning his family to the UK.
According to the Sunday Times, Harry’s family members claim that they will never give up hope of visiting with Meghan and the kids in the future. A pal said: “He’s not given up hope on bringing his family back to the UK. He wants to show his children where he was raised. They are interested in knowing their locals. He really would like to come back to the UK much more”.
