Welcome to the Mirror’s Daily Digest, where we pull together all the best stories of the day from our News, Showbiz, Sport teams and more. This Tuesday, we’re featuring everything from Thomas Skinner’s Strictly interview controversy to a Brit dad’s tragic death at his son’s funeral and the latest from Prince Harry’s UK visit.

Former apprentice star Thomas Skinner stormed out of press interviews with the cast of Strictly 2025 earlier this Tuesday – shortly after snatching a reporters phone. Elsewhere, a dad has collapsed and died at the funeral of his own son as the coffin was being carried into the chapel and the Duke of Sussex has revealed a huge personal charity donation.

Following controversy surrounding his upcoming appearance in Strictly Come Dancing, Thomas Skinner has sensationally stormed out of an interview, furiously telling reporters ‘I’m not doing this.’ The Apprentice star was being interviewed by journalists at the BBC’s Elstree Studios when he got up and left the room.

In a first for a Strictly contestant, the former reality star, best known for his social media output these days, grabbed a reporter’s phone as they asked him to stop. It comes just hours after Skinner told his followers on X he “can’t be bought” and “won’t say things just to keep people happy”.

The dad-of-three has drawn strong criticism for Twitter (X) posts saying it is “not far-right” to be “flying your flag and loving your country”, and complaining “it ain’t safe out there any more” in London, saying the city is “hostile” and “tense”. But while Skinner is happy to chat online, it seems he is less keen to converse in real life.

A dad has collapsed and died at the funeral of his own son as his coffin was being carried into chapel. Norman White, 61, from Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, was attending the funeral of his son David Beilicki at St Bede’s Chapel at Teesside Crematorium when he is thought to have suffered a massive heart attack.

The medical emergency reportedly happened as David’s coffin was being carried into the chapel. Norman’s 41-year-old son David was found dead on a relative’s sofa after a long-term battle with addiction. His death was exactly 10 years after the memorial service for his stillborn twin sons.

David’s sister Chantelle said he had been staying clean from drugs and had been making progress with his recovery at the time of his death. She said the series of events that ended with their father’s death were like the scenes of a tragic movie.

As Harry continues his four-day tour of the UK – during which he is expected to meet King Charles – the estranged prince has revealed a huge £1.1million personal donation to charity. The Duke of Sussex arrived in Nottingham this Tuesday to visit the Community Recording Studio just over an after William started an engagement at youth project in South London.

Now it has been revealed that during his visit to highlight the urgent challenges facing young people living in communities affected by violence across the city, Harry made the substantial donation of £1.1million to BBC Children in Need. It is understood to be a personal donation, not from his Archewell Foundation.

Harry said in a statement: “The incredible work being done by grassroots organisations like CRS and Epic Partners is not only inspiring – it’s essential.”

Worst performing NHS hospitals ‘named and shamed’ in league table – check your area

As the government revealed its league table for the worst performing, our health editor pulled together a list of the worst performing NHS trusts in England. Health Secretary Wes Streeting said the move will pinpoint where urgent support is needed and help end the “postcode lottery” of care but experts have warned hospitals serving tougher patches might be wrongly blamed.

The table scores NHS trusts on a range of measures including finances and patient access to care, as well as bringing down waiting times for operations and A&E, and improving ambulance response times. The launch of the quarterly tables was announced in November and top performers will be given greater freedoms and funding.

Mr Streeting said: “We must be honest about the state of the NHS to fix it. Patients and taxpayers have to know how their local NHS services are doing compared to the rest of the country.”

Why Nottingham Forest sacked Nuno: Transfer rows, players he didn’t want and demand not met

Nuno Espirito Santo
Nuno Espirito Santo has left Nottingham Forest

The football world reacted with shock as Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked as Nottingham Forest manager yesterday evening, with Ange Postecoglu being announced as his successor a matter of hours later. This Tuesday, our Sport Team have been looking into where it all went wrong for the former Wolves manager.

Rows over transfers and a bitter feud with Evangelos Marinakis’ newly-appointed right-hand man, Edu, proved to be the catalyst for Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure from Nottingham Forest. The manager’s exit comes just two weeks after he shared publicly that the relationship between he and Edu, the club’s newly appointed global head of football, had already broken down

Edu’s arrival, and with it the extended influence of his representative, Kia Joorabchian, over transfers was a key factor in the unrest. Marinakis had leant heavily on so-called ‘super agent’ Jorge Mendes during Forest’s rise in recent years to adapt and evolve his squad, a relationship further enhanced when Nuno arrived as Steve Cooper’s replacement. But the decision to hand the ex-Arsenal sporting director power has seen ties with Mendes largely cut and Nuno’s say on deals greatly diminished.

Thomas Skinner’s declared ‘I can’t be bought’ before storming off Strictly interview

Thomas Skinner tweeted about how he ‘always tries to be a positive force in people’s lives’ hours before storming out of a Strictly Come Dancing interview

Thomas Skinner furiously declared he ‘can’t be bought’ in a lengthy tweet shared with followers hours before storming out of a Strictly Come Dancing interview. Fans were divided when The Apprentice star was announced as part of the line-up for this year’s BBC dance competition.

The 34-year-old initially gained a huge following due to his everyman persona mainly going on about grafting hard for success. However, he has been at the receiving end of backlash in recent months due to his controversial social media posts and newly-formed friendship with US Vice President JD Vance.

Weeks before Strictly kicks off, stars taking part in the show chatted to journalists about their experiences so far. However, in a shock moment, he grabbed a reporter’s phone as they asked him to stop.

The divisive figure took issue with a reporter recording an interview, a common practise, during the big Strictly Come Dancing press day.

He had arrived at the table alongside fellow contestant, former footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who was left having to do interviews on his own.

This morning, Thomas posted about how he ‘won’t say things just to keep people happy’ and will ‘always try to be a positive force in people’s lives’.

He said in the tweet: “I’ve always stood up for the everyday person like myself, the people who graft, who work hard, provide for their families and who keep this beautiful country moving from all walks of life. I’m proud of my family. I love my kids. I love my wife. I support those around me, and I’ll always try to be a positive force in people’s lives.

“I cannot be bought. I won’t say things just to keep people happy like others do. I am not a weathercock who changes opinions to gain clout like others you see online or social media. I’ll say what I believe in, even when it’s not easy.

“Because that’s what we need more of in today’s world. I will never forget my roots, and I will never back down from standing shoulder to shoulder with the people who make this nation what it is. They can say and spread misinformation all they like about me to try and get me down. But it only makes me stronger. Love you all. Bosh.”

Only a few hours passed before he stormed out of an interview. An insider told the Mirror: “He walked to the table with his head down, he sat down, grabbed one of the reporters phones, who told him to stop. It was a shock. His reaction came out of nowhere.”

Another source told us: “It was totally out of the blue. He was absolutely fine during the first interview. In good spirits and delighted and surprised to be there. Like a competition winner.”

His actions are said to have left organisers furious and BBC bosses in talks over whether he should remain on the show.

A female journalist had simply asked Skinner what had motivated him to sign up for Strictly, which left the reality TV star realising he was being recorded on a phone during the press event. “What’s that?” Skinner demanded, before picking up the woman’s phone and taking it from the table.

The journalist responded asking: “What are you doing, can you answer the question, we have only got three minutes. I’m just recording him.”

Prue Leith makes jabs at weight loss injections and says she slims down during Bake Off

Bake Off is back and judge Prue Leith has revealed the strict regimen she keeps to during the baking show and says weight loss jabs ‘take the joy out of life’

Prue Leith reveals the diet she sticks to during Bake Off(Image: Getty Images)

Prue Leith says she loses weight during Bake Off and revealed her secret recipe for shedding the pounds is to stick to a strict diet of only cake and wine.

The 83 year-old judge took over for Mary Berry as a judge on the baking show in 2017. Two years later, she put on a stone whilst filming the series and has since decided that, during filming, she will only eat cake and wine so that it doesn’t happen again.

She explained on a podcast in 2023 that all she eats is cake during the series because there is so much in one helping: “In a cake, you get the filling, the icing and the sponge in one teaspoon. I don’t eat anything else.

“I don’t eat lunch and I don’t eat breakfast.”

Prue continued to say that she struggles to stick to one teaspoon as she is hungry when she arrives for work, but fellow judge Paul Hollywood is more disciplined.

“If you watch Paul, he never has more than one mouthful. I normally end up with two.”

But, so far, Prue has stuck to her guns about skipping breakfast and lunch. She admitted to The Telegraph earlier this year that she is “furious” with her husband John when he tries to tempt her with breakfast foods. “My husband John is naughty,” she said. “Because he’ll bring me tea and yogurt and I’ll be furious.”

The only thing she refuses to give up is wine. “When it comes to the evening, what I can’t forgo is a couple of glasses of wine,” she said on the 2023 podcast.

“So my diet for several weeks is basically cake and alcohol. Probably not ideal but it is nice.”

Prue has often spoken about obesity in the UK and what she describes as “alarming” statistics about the weights of people in the country, especially concerning children. In 2024, the NHS found that 15% of children aged between two and 15 fit the obese classification.

As Ozempic boomed in the US and UK, Prue slammed weight loss jabs and said they “take the joy out of life”. She acknowledged that they might be necessary for some who desperately need to lose weight, but that most people would be better off learning how to cook healthy food.

“It’s the wrong answer because you have to go on jabbing yourself for the rest of your life and that can’t be entirely good,” she said at The Times Health Commission summit.

“You’re taking the joy out of life. It would be better if you could just get to love the food that is good for you.”

Prue Leith in a red coat

Prue added that it is “easy” to get children to love healthy food. “The only way we’ll stop children going for something that is easy and delicious is by getting them to love good food. It’s easy to do.”

The NHS advise a healthy diet and regular exercise for weight loss but do prescribe weight loss medication where necessary. They do not encourage people to skip meals in favour of less nutritionally beneficial foods like cake, nor do they encourage alcohol consumption in daily doses.

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple has announced her brand new project. The model and daughter of the Coldplay singer and Hollywood actress has revealed she is working with a London-based fashion house.

Apple has signed up to be the face of the brand self-portrait, which focuses on modern occasionwear for day and night. The model made the announcement on Instagram today by sharing a string of photos she took herself.

The brand said her pictures “captures the effortless, confident and self-expressive spirit of a generation of young customers that continues to inspire the fashion house and its designs”. The brand will collaborate with Apple over the next months, with the brand teasing that there would be fashion portraits, films and activations.

Gwyneth and Chris share daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19. The couple were married until 2016, when they announced they were “consciously uncoupling”, coining the now popular phrase.

Meanwhile, Gwyneth was recently asked what her kids think about her and Chris’ parenting. She shared to E! News: “They are very proud of the iconoclastic approach that we have taken in the past.

“Looking back, there are always things that we used to write about [at Goop] where people were like, ‘Oh my gosh, what is this?’ And now they’re so mainstream.”

She added: “We try to always strike a balance. For me, manners are super important. So, that was kind of the structure: manners and education. I want a lot of expression and individuality and freedom running through that structure. That’s kind of how we looked at it.

“They are definitely artist souls. I do think that a mix of structure and art is really coming through in who they are now. They’re both academic, and yet they have these beautiful free spirits and I think they will pursue art, which I think is wonderful.”

Gwyneth admitted previously she regretted not having more kids – but says things felt complete when she welcomed her partner Brad Falchuk’s children into her life. She explained: “The girls were graduating, and it started to just feel really light and really cohesive. And since then, we’ve had so many moments like that.

“And I feel like it keeps deepening and getting, I don’t know, it’s such a particular kind of delight to see our four kids in their own relationships and being friends with each other and loving each other.”

Husband of Coldplay kiss cam’s Kristin Cabot reveals shocking marriage twist

The husband of a woman seen on a kiss cam at one of Coldplay’s concerts with her boss has spoken out for the first time and revealed the state of his marriage

The husband of a woman who was caught on Coldplay’s ‘kiss cam’ getting cosy with her boss has claimed that they were “privately and amicably separated” before the concert.

Kirsten Cabot and her husband Andrew Cabot, 61, confirmed last week that they have filed for divorce several weeks after she was spotted with her boss Andy Bryon at one of the band’s gigs.

The footage surfaced on social media and, in the ensuing scandal, Andy stepped down from his role as CEO of tech firm Astronomer and Kirstin resigned as his Head of HR.

However, following the confirmation of the divorce, Andrew, an entrepreneur from Massachusetts, stated that he and Kirstin “were privately and amicably separated several weeks before the Coldplay concert”.

A spokesperson speaking to the press on his behalf added: “Their decision to divorce was already underway prior to that evening. Now that the divorce filing is public, Andrew hopes this provides respectful closure to speculation and allows his family the privacy they’ve always valued.”

Kirstin’s moment with her manager on screen attracted attention worldwide. Even Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joked that the pair were either “having an affair or just very shy.”

Shortly after the awkward moment, both employees were put on leave. Andy later resigned from the company after “failing to meet company standards”.

Despite the clarity around the divorce, Andrew’s spokesperson also told People today: “No further public comment will be made.”

It marks the first occasion that the woman’s husband has spoken out publicly – albeit through a spokesperson – about the furore, and the state of his and Kirstin’s relationship.

Andrew, who serves as CEO of a distillery in Ipswich, Massachusetts, shares no children with Kirstin, though he has two youngsters from an earlier marriage. His family, Andrew maintains, has “always valued” privacy, something somewhat compromised during the scandal.

Both Kirstin and her manager responded uncomfortably when the kiss cam focused on them at the concert. Kirstin swiftly turned away whilst he disappeared from view.

It generated numerous memes and ridicule and cast a national spotlight, for several days, on the former work colleagues. Many online claimed to uncover and circulate personal information about both of their families.

The viral moment also became the focus of considerable debate about the essence of privacy in a digital era and what conduct should and shouldn’t expose someone to public examination.

In a press statement in November announcing Cabot’s original appointment at Astronomer, Byron was quoted as declaring her “exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management, employee engagement, and scaling people strategies will be critical as we continue our rapid trajectory. She is a proven leader.”
