Buffy icon Sarah Michelle Gellar ‘still heartbroken’ one year after LA wildfires

Sarah Michelle Gellar, best known for her titular role in the beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, spoke out about the fires that devastated LA.

Hollywood actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has shared a poignant update on social media one year on from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, which reportedly killed 31 people and at least 13,000 homes.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star, who is famous for playing Buffy Summers in the popular supernatural drama, expressed her heartbreak for those affected in view of her 4.9 million Instagram followers.

She shared a picture taken last year from her car, which shows her driving away from a huge pillar of smoke.

Gellar wrote: “While Jan 7 ‘26 is really exciting for me, I do want to acknowledge where I was on this day last year: leaving my house not knowing if it would be there to come back to.”

She continued: “We watched for days from afar not knowing. But in the end, we were one of the lucky ones. It was close, but our house made it to return to, unlike so many of our friends. My heart still breaks for all of you.”

The actress then shared a picture of the deadly fires sweeping through LA from above, explaining: “This is a picture I took of the TV, watching the fire come over our hillside.

“I will always be grateful to all of the firefighters who fought for days on end, with no break, to stop the progress. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

Last year, Gellar was forced to flee the LA wildfires alongside her equally famous husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., with whom she shares two children.

Thankfully, after fearing their colonial-style home in the Mandeville Canyon district was under threat, the family was eventually able to return.

Gellar criticised the way local authorities handled the crisis last year, saying at the time: “City of LA you want everyone to evacuate yet you have complete gridlock and not one traffic cop on the roads helping.”

Amongst the thousands who tragically lost their homes in the fire were several celebrities, including famous couple Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, as well as Mel Gibson, Jeff Bridges, Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Milo Ventimiglia.

Meanwhile, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Gellar, who is helming the revival series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with the pilot episode set to be directed by award-winner Chloe Zhao.

Speaking exclusively to Reach Screen Time, fan favourite James Marsters previously revealed the reboot had caused a “feeding frenzy” in Hollywood.

He said: “I cannot wait. And then I’m assuming it’s going to go to series and the writer-producers that are going to be handling that are equally talented, but Chloé Zhao is just incredible.

“There’s a feeding frenzy right now in Hollywood,” he revealed. “All Hollywood writers are trying to get on this project.

“Because they all decided they wanted to be writers when they were kids and they watched Buffy and were like, ‘Wow, I wanna try that.’

“So everyone’s trying to get in on it and Chloe is one of the people where one of the reasons she’s a writer is that she loved Buffy.”

  5. After initially saying the driver was “speeding without looking” in his Instagram statement, John, who lives in Leeds, later wrote: “I don’t know what speed the driver was going. But it was enough to skittle me up onto his windscreen and down onto the floor”.
  6. He also issued a stern warning about not wearing black while crossing a road in the dark, and thanked his local NHS and police force to taking care of him, adding “how lucky we are to have these angel creatures roaming the earth, by our sides”.

Katie Price has shared an update on her son Harvey’s living arrangements after leaving college. The mum of five revealed her son would move into his new place at the end of the month, adding that she plans to kit out his new pad, which will be just 15 minutes away, so it’ll feel like a “home away from home”.

Harvey has ADHD, autism, genetic condition Prader-Willi Syndrome, and septo-optic dysplasia, which causes blindness. Katie previously revealed her son would be going from college into “independent living”.

Speaking on the Katie Price Show podcast, she said: “We are looking at his place this month, he should be moving at the end of this month. And then it’ll be 15 minutes. I can’t wait. It’s all been built, they are just finishing off building stuff and regulations because it’s brand new.

“I am going to get him a SMEG kettle and toaster, green ones , new plates, same as how I kitted Junior’s out. But I need to get him a new sofa, new bed, new bedding. I want to get a net – I have so many frog toys – just to put in the corner of his room. I’m going to make it a home from home and he will love it. I’m excited for him.”

In July, the former glamour model made the trip to see the 23-year-old at his accommodation after it was claimed the local authority had cut his funding. She explained how Harvey was going “into the real world”. Speaking on podcast, Katie said: “Harvey is doing the countdown for his new place. He’s got his leavers ceremony where they give out certificates and then it’s the ‘real world’ Mr Harvey Price.”

Katie shared a snap from his frog-themed room. Posting on Instagram , Katie wrote: “Visiting my Harvey at college.” She followed it up with three green love heart emojis.

The snap showed the mum-and-son pair sharing a peck as they lay on a bed. The green walls had a cartoon frog painted on, showing off Harvey’s love for the animal. There was also a pillow with his smiling face on.

In May, Harvey celebrated turning 23 with a frog-themed party. Katie shared the occasion on her Instagram, with photo upload of her son wearing a frog head band. She said he was “so happy” to celebrate the milestone.

Previously, Katie – who shares Harvey with former Manchester United footballer Dwight Yorke- had explained that her son “got bored” at the residential college and often wanted to come home .

Katie, who lives in Horsham, West Sussex, had previously said: “Harvey is supposed to be moving in four-and-a-half weeks, they’ve (the college) changed management and said they won’t be able to cater for Harv, because he’s too difficult. So now I’ve got to find another placement for him… so yeah, more drama to deal with.”

She added: “We worked months and months for that and he was told four-and-a-half weeks before that he couldn’t go there, and Harvey has been doing the countdown.

“Well it’s stressful because you want the right thing for your child and it is a lot of time and effort to go back and do more meetings, more forms, it is very time-consuming because you want the best for your child.”

Singer Cat Burns has joyously marked the beginning of her “new life” following a successful breast reduction operation, sharing the deeply personal news with her fans.

The 25-year-old songstress, who recently captivated audiences on the inaugural celebrity edition of BBC One’s hit show The Traitors, revealed that she opted for the procedure after enduring years of physical discomfort and emotional distress.

Taking to Instagram to document the milestone, Burns shared her journey with her followers, expressing a sense of overwhelming relief.

She admitted that she had grappled with body image issues since her early teens, making the decision to undergo surgery both a medical and a transformative personal choice.

Burns candidly shared her vulnerability with her audience, writing: “Was going back and forth on whether I was gonna share this but I know I’ve built an understanding community of people!

“I’ve just come out of my breast reduction surgery!” The singer described the emotional aftermath of the procedure, noting: “Had a big fat cry once I saw mum, sisty and Sarah—joyful tears by the way. The amount of relief and happiness I feel is overwhelming.”

Reflecting on the history of her struggles, Burns explained that her journey with her body had been difficult since puberty. “I’ve always struggled with my boobies since they arrived on my chest at like 12,” she noted.

“They caused me so much pain when exercising and I deeply hated the oversexualisation it brought.”

Despite trying various methods to manage the physical burden, including specialized bras and lifestyle adjustments, Burns decided that surgery was the right path forward. “I tried so many different ways to work with my body… but I thought while I’m young and healthy and by the universe’s grace am able to go through with this surgery, I want to love my body going into the next part of my life! Today marks the start of my new life!”

The singer confirmed the operation was a success, mentioning that she used affirmations to stay grounded. This health update comes during a whirlwind period for Burns.

On The Traitors, she narrowly missed out on the prize, being ousted in the final round after serving as a “Traitor” alongside legends Jonathan Ross and comedian Alan Carr.

Rita Ora has continued to branch out beyond pop music as an entrepreneur in her own right – launching a new Womenswear collection alongside fellow brand ambassador Krept.

In a host of snaps which showcase her incredible physique, the Let You Love Me hitmaker, who is married to film director Taika Waititi, can be seen working up a sweat in skimpy gym wear as she launched her latest collection with Primark.

It comes as the style-conscious star – never one to shy away from the limelight – was seen flashing her black lace bra as she stepped out in blue denim jeans and a brown suede coat, during a night out at Chateau Marmont in LA on Tuesday.

Following several collections with the high street brand since her 2023 debut, the 34-year-old is now branching into fitness gear alongside rapper and buisnessman Krept.

The new drop, Every Move Counts, is inspired by Rita’s love of Pilates – and especially designed for wear both in the gym and out and about.

The star, who is originally from Kosovo, commented: “This collection with Primark was inspired by my love of Pilates and that balance between strength, confidence, and ease. I wanted pieces that support you when you’re really pushing yourself, but still feel soft, flattering, and stylish enough to wear beyond the studio.

“From sculpting fabrics to buttery-soft layers, everything is designed to move with you – whether you’re training, stretching, or just getting things done.

“It’s about redefining performance on your own terms, feeling confident in your body, and looking good while doing it. I’m so proud of how this collection brings style and function together in a way that feels effortless and real!”

In a host of snaps for the new collection – where prices range from £2.50 to £26 – Rita can be seen working out on a Pilates reformer machine. In another look, she can be seen in the Rita Ora Gathered Tech Jacket (£22.00) and a pair of matching gym shorts.

Krept, meanwhile, said of his Menswear collection, also available in store or via Primark’s Click + Collect service, “I believe everyone should have access to great sportswear, not just athletes or influencers. That’s why working with Primark felt right, it’s about performance and confidence without barriers.”

Speaking recently at a Women In Cinema event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Rita revealed that she was still ‘constantly learning’ and ‘breaking boundaries’.

Adding that she didn’t want to be labelled solely as a musician, she added, “’They tend to limit themselves as just one category and you don’t really need to do that.

“I see myself an amateur everyday as I’m constantly learning. You should never walk into the room thinking you don’t have power as you do.”

Rita went on to say that a woman she will always look up to ‘first and foremost’ is her mother Vera, but added: “There are so many women for different reasons like Madonna in music, Blondie and even Cher.

“They are people who have done more than one thing and that’s exactly what I love to do. So it’s awesome to see these boundaries being broken.”

A royal expert has claimed that the disgraced former prince is using his daughters as his inside link to the Royal Family, urging them to attend Christmas in Sandringham to keep a foot in with the royals

Royal experts have claimed that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is using his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, to keep a foot in with the Royal Family, despite his dramatic exile.

The disgraced former prince was stripped of his titles and evicted from his Royal Lodge home in October over continued revelations emerging about his connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. While Andrew has effectively been exiled from the Firm, his daughters maintain a good relationship with King Charles and other senior royals. Both Beatrice and Eugenie shocked many royal watchers as they joined the royals for Christmas in Sandringham, while Andrew and Fergie spent the festive season alone.

Royal experts Ingrid Seward and Charlie Rae spoke candidly about Beatrice and Eugenie’s inclusion in the royal Christmas celebrations, telling The Sun’s Matt Wilkinson they were surprised to see them in such good spirits, given the nature of their parent’s scandals.

Wilkinson said: “I was fascinated by Beatrice and Eugenie going to Sandringham because we were led to believe that both of them were going to stay away from Royal Lodge, they were going to stay away from Sandringham to avoid being seen like they’re taking sides. However, they changed their minds and they went to Sandringham. They were standing on the steps outside of the church, smiling, happy with the King.”

Mr Rae argued it was the “right decision to be with the King”, and Ms Seward agreed, adding: “But I don’t think Beatrice and Eugenie had a choice. Andrew said to them, you have to go, because he wants to keep a foot in. A, he wants to know what’s going on. B, he’d want to know what people were saying about him.”

“And he’s always said that, and Fergie has said, ‘the girls are my passport’. They are Andrew’s only passport into the royal family now. And I’m absolutely sure that he persuaded them.”

Fellow royal expert Mr Rae agreed wholeheartedly and added: “Andrew wants to keep an eye on what’s going on. He’s not invited, so he’s not at the table any more. So one of the first things that would have happened when they got back would be Andrew would be on the phone saying, ‘right, who said what?’”

While Beatrice and Eugenie were all smiles alongside the Royal Family on Christmas Day, a solo Andrew was pictured driving out of his Royal Lodge home – which he will soon be kicked out of – looking sad and sombre.

Andrew has faced even more heat in recent weeks as photos of him appeared in the newly released Epstein files. Being named or pictured in these files does not equate to wrongdoing and Andrew has consistently denied all allegations against him.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror that while Andrew awaits his move to the Sandringham estate, he is likely lying low amidst the continuing onslaught of allegations tying him to Epstein.

Jennie explained: “There are still many more Epstein documents and emails to be released, but I suspect that the most damaging revelations about Andrew’s friendship with him are already in the public arena. But the threat of more scandal around the corner will remain for some time – not only about Epstein, but about Andrew’s financial dealings and arrangements. It is not a story that investigative journalists are ready to let rest.”
