Strictly’s Karen Carney reveals real reason she joined series – and her favourite celeb co-star

Former professional football player Karen Carney described her true motivation for joining BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and how she feels “humbled and privileged to be on the show.”

During her career as a footballer, Karen Carney was regularly considered — and celebrated — as the most cool, calm and collected player on the pitch. But as she steps into her Strictly Come Dancing glamorous gown and heels, she admits in an exclusive chat with OK! that it’s pushing her further out of her comfort zone than she’s ever been.

“The challenge for me will be trying to show the real version of me, and not getting shy or awkward, or insular,” she reveales when we sit down with her a few days before the latest series kicks off. “A lot of people will have seen me in the football environment, and it’s quite intense. My feeling is that people perceive me in a certain way — that I’m very… serious. But that’s not really accurate!”

“I want people to notice how warm I am,” I said. a compassionate, kind worker. I’m actually quite nervous and awkward. However, I’m also really funny and daft, and I probably only want to see Karen in a different way, not a footballer.

Everyone I know who has used Strictly has cautioned me against being too hard on myself. I would be absolutely critical of myself if it were football, but this isn’t my thing; it’s the pros’ thing, and I’m honored and privileged to be on the show.

The fiercely proud Brummie, 38, is one of the most recognisable faces in football punditry, with regular appearances on ITV, Sky Sports and TNT Sports.

Her professional career — which began at her home club of Birmingham City in the early noughties — includes appearances for England, lifting the FA Women’s Premier League and FA Women’s Cup trophies, a stint in the US, and a place on the 2012 Olympic Great Britain team.

She has a long history of Strictly fans, and she can proudly claim to have seen almost every episode of the 22 series so far. She admitted that she has never anticipated entering the fabled dance floor herself, and that she also “begged, stole, and borrowed” to get a seat in the live studio audience last year.

She shares, “You watch it every week, fall in love with the stories, and you witness people’s journeys and personalities.” I was just mesmerized by it when I went there last year. Never, ever did I even consider that I would participate in it one day. Sincerely, I never imagined that I would step onto the Strictly dance floor in my wildest dreams. It was just an incredible moment when I received the email stating that I would participate this year.

Although her list of standout moments is lengthy, Chris McCausland, who won the title last year with Dianne Buswell, occupies a few of the spots. In addition to Karen, the 2022 Glitterball winners Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przysta are both present, and despite her nervousness, Karen is absolutely hushed to create her own memorable “moments.”

“Chris and Dianne were my absolute favorites.” I shared a few years ago the same block with Chris, who obviously enjoys football. I wanted to see Dianne’s parents watching them both in live theater because I was so invested in both of them.

She refers to the couple’s legendary lift during their salsa, which included Sasha and Jowita, and that was “that iconic salsa that was just absolutely epic.” ).

That cool exterior begins to fade as Karen discusses moving her to one of the show’s most eclectic lineups. She says they have developed a “brilliant rapport” and are thrilled to be spending time with reality TV star and podcaster Vicky Pattison.

One other famous person has unavoidably assigned Karen to bring in a football for some breaktime kickabouts, and Karen is more than happy to do so. It’s just a lovely group this year, they say. She grins and says that Vicky is very grounded and energetic. She always asks, “Are you okay?,” and she always answers. and I’m like, “Yes, but are you okay?”

Ross King also makes me laugh. We’ll be playing football whenever we can, so I said I’d bring in a mini ball because it’ll keep me calm.

Karen has also been backed up a lot by well-known people, including a few ex-Strictly contestants. There is even an unofficial “supporters’ group” for her that includes Sara Davies, Ellie Simmonds, Anneka Rice, and Clare Balding.

She laughs and says, “They were all at a cricketing event that Clare recently invited me to, and I just had to get a photo with them.” They all expressed such admiration for it. In fact, Sara actually said, “Here’s my number in case you ever need anything.” She promised to do the same for someone else in the future, so I would forward it. It was a really kind act.

Karen made her FA Women’s Premier League National Division debut at age 14 at Birmingham City before beginning her professional senior career there in 2001 (she joined them as a youth player at the age of 11). She then spent time with Chelsea before beginning her professional career at Arsenal and the Chicago Red Stars in the US.

Does Karen believe that her fancy footwork will help her in the Strictly ballroom, given that she is undoubtedly a whizz with a football? She laughs, “I definitely don’t have the grace, that’s something I’m going to have to learn,” she says. the endurance? I’m not sure. It combines exercise and training in a completely new way. That will be a challenge because I don’t exercise in heels!

“I’ve been retired for six years, and I probably spent the last few hours relaxing.” Never did I anticipate participating in Strictly, and I’m probably going to have gained more muscle if I had known. I just want to enjoy the experience, not put any pressure on myself.

For Karen, the journey is just as important to her as the destination, and possibly a Glitterball victory. She acknowledges that some unanticipated emotions have already caught her off guard. And while embracing every emotion, good or bad, she is determined to keep her guard down and show her side when it comes to herself.

“I’ve always said that my football career went so quickly,” I’ve always said. I’m angry at myself because there are times when I’m not happy enough and because I’m so focused on succeeding and striving to be best and constantly thinking about the upcoming game that I don’t always live in the moment and really enjoy it all.

So I’ve made the promise to myself that every moment will have its advantages, with all kinds of difficulties and ups and downs.

Strictly star Stefan Dennis’ marriage to Neighbours co-star and brother’s tragic death

Stefan Dennis, the lead singer of Strictly, has gone through both public affairs and personal tragedy, including the tragic death of his brother, two successful marriages, and raising three children with his current wife.

Stefan Dennis, the veteran Australian actor best known for his role as the ruthless Paul Robinson on the long-running soap Neighbours, has joined the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing, bringing decades of experience in television drama to the glittering BBC ballroom.

It marks a new chapter in a career that has spanned more than 40 years and made him a household name both in Australia and the UK.

Dennis, 66, who was born in Tawonga, Victoria, when he first started acting at age 11 and starred in an amateur version of Oliver, moved with his family to the Gold Coast as a child.

He then made guest appearances on shows like The Bill, Dream Team, River City, and Casualty as well as a number of Australian television dramas, including Prisoner, The Henderson Kids, The Sullivans, Young Doctors, and Sons and Daughters.

In 1985, Stefan gained notoriety for playing Paul Robinson in Neighbours, a character that would go on to become one of the soap’s most well-known and enduring figures.

The much-loved actor is best known for his conspiratorial business dealings, complicated relationships, and numerous personal dramas that kept viewers riveted day after day. He has appeared in more than 6, 000 episodes over the course of his career.

Stefan briefly left Neighbours in 1992, but he then followed up that year, and in 2004 he remained active in the fictional Ramsay Street community until the show’s cancellation on Amazon Freevee, with the final episode aired later this year.

Speaking to Loose Women, he revealed that the show’s producers honoured his long tenure by giving him the final line in the soap’s concluding episode, saying: “I say the very last line in the show. It was a nice tribute Jason, our executive producer, gave to me because he said, ‘You were in the first episode. It’s a no-brainer that you have to say the last thing’.”

Despite planning to “semi-retire” following the news that his long-standing character would be permanently written out, Stefan was persuaded to take on the Strictly challenge, joking on the ITV panel show: “I always say actors don’t retire, they die. I planned to semi-retire, maybe getting one good gig a year.”

“Strictly followed then. Before describing his excitement at joining the competition alongside professional dancer Dianne Buswell, he said, “Bye bye semi-retirement.”

“This is an opportunity for me to once again learn to step out of my comfort zone in the world of television. Looking forward to the sparkle and reaching for the sky,” the Neighbours legend added.

The actor has gone through a significant personal tragedy, including the tragic death of his older brother at the age of 12 in a drunk driver’s collision.

It’s a life event, according to Stefan, that he will remember for a long time. He revealed in a previous interview that “the repercussions of someone driving while on drugs or drinking still affect me.”

“The man who killed my brother was traveling at a speed of just 30 kilometers per hour.” That was all that was required,” adding that the driver was surprised to receive a surprisingly light $200 fine in contrast to the time’s heavier penalties for other minor mishaps.

In addition to his private life, Roz Roy and the model’s marriage to Roz Roy from 1979 to 1989 were prominent partners.

Stefan, who portrayed his on-screen nemesis Julie Quill in Neighbours, and co-star Gayle Blakeney and singer Natalie Imbruglia, have three children together. They have three children, Cameron, Declan, and Darci.

Stefan has pursued music in addition to acting, with 1989’s release of Don’t It Make You Feel Good, which reached No. This Love Affair reached No. 16 on the UK charts, and 16 on the UK charts. 67.

As he prepares to compete on Strictly Come Dancing while biding farewell to Ramsay Street, Stefan shows no signs of slowing down. His versatility has helped him maintain a long and varied career.

Strictly pro Amy Dowden says ‘I’ve always wanted to be a mum’ in baby update

Amy Dowden, a Strictly Come Dancing professional on BBB, has revealed how her battle with breast cancer has affected her chances of becoming a mother.

Amy Dowden, a professional dancer for Strictly Come Dancing, has openly discussed the possibility of becoming a mother with her husband Ben Jones and how her future worries her.

Despite her fame for her dancing on Strictly, the public has been focusing a lot on her courageous battle with cancer.

After discovering a lump a month prior, Amy was diagnosed with Grade three breast cancer in May 2023. She decided to get pregnant after having a mastectomy and receiving chemotherapy because the cancer treatment had already slowed down her hormones and caused the dancer to experience early menopause.

Amy was given the clear-cut of breast cancer after finishing her treatment in February 2024.

Dr. Sacha Howell explained how hormone-fed cancers, like Amy’s, are treated with anti-oestrogen medication in an interview with the podcast Breast Cancer Uncovered. Women’s fertility can be severely affected during the treatment phase because this suppresses a woman’s ovaries.

He did mention a recent study, which suggested that doctors might no longer need to prescribe anti-oestrogen during breast cancer treatment in the future.

Amy applauded the announcement, saying, “It’s good news for me because I’m in that situation, you know, with oestrogen-fed cancer, and I was put into menopause, I was given chemotherapy, and it might lead to more women like her having children.” I have embryos because I responded to treatment well before I started chemotherapy.

She acknowledged her “worry” for her chances after receiving treatment, saying, “But, you know, I’m 34, and I’ve always wanted to be a mother. You know, this worries me a lot.

And I’m aware that when I spoke with my oncologist, he said we wouldn’t discuss it until at least January because he advised at least two years of (cancer-free) being (cancer-free) it was more likely that the cancer would return within those two years.

Since she first started working as a professional dancer on the program in 2017, Amy has become a well-known face on Strictly.

During that period, she has experienced varying degrees of success while partnered with celebrities including JJ Chalmers, Tom Fletcher and James Bye.

Nevertheless, her greatest opportunity to claim the BBC programme’s crown arrived in 2019, when she progressed to the grand finale alongside TV presenter Karim Zeroual before losing out on the coveted Glitterball trophy to Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse.

Inside Strictly star Nikita Kuzmin’s life with girlfriend amid life-changing health woes

Celebrity Big Brother fans have long admired the Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin, but his life hasn’t been all sunshine.

Nikita Kuzmin has quickly become one of the most loved professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing since his debut in 2021 at the tender age of 22. During his very first year on the BBC series, Nikita, now 27, was partnered with Tilly Ramsay, where he finished in sixth place.

The Ukrainian-born dancer then partnered with Ellie Simmonds in 2022, Layton Williams in 2023 where the pair finished in 2nd place, and Sam Quek in 2024, finishing in 10th place. Nikita was hopeful that 2025 would be his year after he discovered that hugely popular Love Island winner Dani Dyer would be his partner.

Sadly, Nikita’s dreams have come crashing down after reality TV star Dani, 29, has been forced to pull out of the BBC competition before her very first dance due to a painful injury. Mum-of-three Dani announced her departure from the show earlier this week.

The pre-recorded launch episode on the weekend unveiled each of the pairings for the latest series. It was revealed that Dani would be with Nikita, 27, and she said upon meeting her dance partner: “I’m so happy. I literally am in shock.”

Earth-shattering regret

Nikita made a statement after learning Dani had left Strictly. He also posted some behind-the-scenes photos, saying that he was “so devastated we’d finished our journey before it even started.”

“We had an incredible amount of fun and laughs in such a short amount of time!” I really enjoyed our partnership, and I’m hoping to reach week one soon, lol. I wish you the best of luck, Daniel.

You’re such a wonderful, upbeat, and lovely person, he continued. Knowing how excited you were to do your absolute best on the show breaks my heart. We sincerely haven’t decided on the team name in time, so hopefully we can pick it up next year:) Love from #danita, #dakita, #nani.

The professional dancer has always succeeded despite Dani and Nikita’s disappointing setback.

The Strictly star’s incredible success came as a result of his family moving to Italy, where Nikita has won numerous competition victories before switching to television.

He has learned to accept his medical condition, which he initially feared might end his career, and has endured personal heartache throughout his journey. We examine Nikita’s life while she is away from the famed’s bright lights.

a life-changing medical condition

At the age of 13, Nikita has been open about denying that type 1 diabetes will stop him from dancing. Although he initially expressed concern that it might affect his dancing, he quickly discovered that many other celebrities also have the ability to manage it.

He said, “When I found out, I thought, My career’s over, and when I woke up the next morning, I saw all those kids smiling and they were diabetics just like me.” This wall of fame was there when I left my room, which is one of my best memories in life.

Olympians, Paralympians, Presidents, actors, and other well-known diabetics made up the entire group. And I believe I actually numbered quite a few of them because I believed there were far more people than there really were. Most of the items I checked a few days ago were not even there.

While in the Celebrity Big Brother house last year, viewers were left puzzled when they thought they spotted a mobile phone as the dancer entered the diary room. However, it turned out to be his blood sugar monitor.

Was that nikitas’ lap phone in the diary room, one viewer asked? Another chimed in, “No one notices Nikita has a phone or something on his knees at the start of his interview with BB.”

Fans who knew about Nikita’s health condition quickly clarified that he didn’t have a phone, with one saying, “He’s diabetic.” His machine is used to check his sugars. “Nikita is diabetic, he’s checking blood sugar, it’s not a phone!” was added. “!.

Nikita’s romantic life

With models and famous women in her past, Nikita has a turbulent romantic history. He and Nicole Wirt had a five-year relationship before splitting up, which caused rumors of the infamous curse.

Nikita’s breakup was initiated by an insider who told The Sun that he wanted to concentrate solely on his career. Nicole and Nicole both decided a while back that Nicole should end their relationship and that Nicole should be the main focus of this season of Strictly. After five years of dating, they decided to end their relationship. Nicole’s main location is in Germany, but her work is getting more and more demanding.

After that, the Ukrainian performer connected with Australian intimacy podcaster and TikTok sensation Charlie Backshall whose show The Hotline featured explicit accounts of their alleged private encounters.

She discussed an intimate encounter with a man who she thought was Nikita during an episode titled “We’re Back and I’m Still in Love.” However, an insider claimed to be worried about alienating Strictly viewers by wanting to keep her provocative career a secret.

According to the insider, dating a sex podcaster conflicts a lot because Nikita is well aware of his brand and the fact that he appears on the most family-friendly TV show. He opted not to reveal their relationship until after the 2022 season was over, citing his desire not to let it overshadow his role in the show, which included dancing with Paralympic medalist Ellie.

Charlie knows that their relationship will soon be known as soon as he starts talking openly about it. He hopes their romance will work out well apart because he really likes her.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, and he has since started dating 23-year-old model Lauren Jaine. Although it’s not yet known when Nikita and Lauren started dating, there was a rise in rumors about their relationship by the summer of last year.

The model backed her partner publicly when he was confirmed as a housemate on the 2024 series of Celebrity Big Brother.

She wrote, “The secret is out! ” by posting a number of snaps of them together. I’m so excited for this crazy boy to participate in this amazing experience, even though I’m going to miss him. Every single night, the gattos and I will be watching! I adore you, @nikita__kuzmin.

Home life

Along with their adorable cats, Nikita and Lauren reside in a contemporary London apartment. The sliding doors into their open living room lead to a balcony where Nikita enjoys working out.

The couple’s interior design choice includes a gray sofa, a large TV, a free-standing mirror, and a guitar.

White cabinets and a balcony are located in their kitchen. The couple’s bedroom’s plain white walls have been posted by Lauren. Leo and Bagheera, Nikita’s adorable cats, enjoy dining with the couple at their table. Additionally, they have five other kittens who enjoy snubbling together on the sofa.

Dani Dyer’s message as she’s forced to miss out on live Strictly shows

Amber Davies has taken the place of the Love Island winner, according to reports that Strictly stars are “furious.”

Dani Dyer has shared a message to the Strictly cast ahead of tonight’s live show, after the cast were reported to be ‘furious’ about her replacement, Amber Davies.

Earlier this week, Dani had to withdraw from the dance show after fracturing her ankle during training. The former Love Island winner had been partnered with Nikita Kuzmin. Following her departure, Amber, who won Love Island the series before Dani, was picked as a replacement.

Dani has since taken to Instagram to wish the cast and crew the best of luck. Good luck to all the gorgeous cast members starting their strictly journey tonight, she wrote in her stories: “We know how hard you’ve all been working. See you all soon.

Due to Amber’s extensive dance training, Dani’s replacement is said to be causing controversy among Strictly stars. The 28-year-old has previously worked as a dancer at London’s Cirque Le Soir and has appeared in leading roles in dance-heavy musicals like 9 to 5.

According to an insider, the other competitors felt it was “unfair” that someone with such training was chosen, especially when another of this year’s replacement castmates, Lewis Cope, also has dance experience.

The source told The Sun, “The celebs are trying to be good sports about everything and don’t want to let on that they’re unhappy.” However, they only talk about it in the background because they believe it unfair that the lineup now includes two sensational dancers with extensive stage experience. One celebrity with that kind of background is one thing, but having two, especially if they both made the final, is seen as unfair.

This sense of unhappiness was strongly denied by the BBC, who told the Daily Mail: “We’ve been shown absolutely no evidence to suggest that this story is true, or that the anonymous quote it is based on is from anyone connected to the series.”

Amber and Lewis, who joined Strictly before it’s pre-recorded launch show following Kristian Nairn’s withdrawal, are just the latest contestants to have prior dance experience. Last year, finalist Tasha Ghouri was slammed for competing when she had worked as a professional dancer before. Likewise, Ashley Roberts had dance training, as did Layton Williams.

None of these dancers are trained in latin and ballroom dances, though. Because of this, these celebrities don’t feel like they have an advantage over the Strictly pros.

“Some people might have done some dancing, but it won’t have been fox trots and cha-chas,” said Anton Du Beke, who has been on the show since it first launched in 2004. Mostly, it will be commercial or musical theater. It will a little help them. Really, it has a small advantage.

“I have not seen many winners,” he said. Your choice is always yours. You’re aware of the difficulties that come with being first in the group, and then they get to the tenth week, which are somewhat similar. They haven’t greatly improved.

Thomas Skinner’s unlikely new career move as he takes on Strictly Come Dancing

Thomas Skinner, who is participating in Strictly Come Dancing, recently collaborated with a friend to create the song Bosh Drink Stella.

Thomas Skinner recently joined forces with 90s band The Sound’s frontman, Robert Hisee, for a new track as he tries his hand in a more creative field. The Apprentice star has been hard at work for his Strictly Come Dancing stint but previously rocked up to the studio to record a song.

The TV personality, 34, teamed up with his pal Robert Hisee for the new anthem titled Bosh Drink Stella. Robert shared the clip on his Instagram page last month, writing: “Oi Oi. Me & my pal Tom Skinner have only gone and made a tune… and it’s a BOSH one. Our new single “BOSH DRINK STELLA” lands this month.

“Prompt knees-up vibes, hearty laughs, and a few cold ones to go along. Who is prepared to battle it out with us?

In the brief clip that was shared on his page, Thomas sang, “Bosh, drink Stella! ” while sat in the middle of a group of lads in a bar. You are certain that it will improve your mood.

One user wrote, “I absolutely love this!!” while others were enthralled by the collaboration. Rock on!! This is utterly awesome, and yet another posting. I’m so angry with myself for how much I enjoy this, one fan said.

Meanwhile, Thomas is preparing for Strictly Come Dancing’s live show tonight and posted a defiant Instagram message hours before taking to the stage.

He shared a video of his pre-show workout as he geared up for week one of routines on Strictly Come Dancing. Alongside the clip, he wrote, “HAPPY SATURDAY!!! LIVE SHOW DAY!! TOUGH TIMES DON’T LAST BUT TOUGH PEOPLE DO!! LOVE YOU ALL. BOSH.”

The cheerful man began by introducing himself by saying, “Happy Saturday, you lovely people,” while his two daughters were dancing in his living room. I just finished working out and getting ready for tonight’s show.

He continued, “Listen, I can’t wait until tonight.” My tan is on me. After a doner kebab feast, I’ll look like Patrick Swayze. Remember, tough people endure tough times, not last. You must never give up because you are ten times stronger than you can ever imagine. Keep putting one foot in front of the other.

It comes after TV star admitted to a fling shortly after marrying his wife Sinéad in 2022. Speaking honestly about the affair, he called it the “biggest mistake” of his life.

Not long after his admission, the Mirror revealed one of his firms hasn’t paid back a £50,000 Covid bounce back loan – despite the star boasting about turning over “millions” during the pandemic.
