Adrian Chiles admits ‘it was a lot’ as he issues update on cancer news

Broadcaster Adrian Chiles said he was “initially embarrassed” by the reaction, while clarifying that all was well following his skin cancer diagnosis

Adrian Chiles has opened up about the reaction he’s received since going public with his skin cancer news. The presenter spoke about his diagnosis for the first time earlier this month, telling fans he had been treated for squamous cell carcinoma on the NHS.

Adrian, 58, initially grew concerned about a suspicious patch of skin on his shoulder and a biopsy later revealed it was cancerous.

Sharing the news with his readers, he said: “All removed and won’t spread. So not nothing, but not serious. Needs keeping an eye on”.

According to the NHS, non-melanoma skin cancer is a common type of cancer that starts in the top layer of the skin, with the main types being basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

In his latest column for The Guardian, the broadcaster spoke about the surprising reaction he received from loved ones and strangers as he clarified that all was well.

“Everything went nuts, thoughts and prayers came streaming in from all quarters”, he shared, after announcing the news.

The broadcaster said those sending their well wishes were many of his family and friends, whom he hadn’t informed, as he didn’t think it was worth mentioning.

Additionally, Adrian recalled being approached by a man at a football game who told him he had been “praying” for him.

“A bloke running a burger van said, ‘ I’ve been through it, mate. Terrible. ‘ The poor man had been really very ill indeed with bowel cancer”, he added.

The presenter admitted he was “initially embarrassed” by the reaction and also “annoyed” by how overblown his story had become.

“Had no one got beyond the headlines and read any of the articles, which made it clear it was nothing serious”?, he wrote.

“Then I felt bad about feeling annoyed as people were only being nice”.

To respond to those sending well wishes in the best possible way, the former Daybreak star said he did his “best to summon words to convey compassion”, without implying that he was remotely in the same situation.

“But then perhaps, in the nicest possible way, he drew some comfort from having me in the same boat. It was a lot”, he continued.

The presenter went on to say he “still]feels] bad about the fuss”, though expressed gratitude for those who showed care.

It’s not the first time Adrian has opened up about his health. In 2019, he revealed that his life changed for the better when he was diagnosed with ADD (attention deficit disorder).

The broadcaster received the diagnosis following a long period of “a constant kind of chest-bursting, enervating surfeit of adrenaline, dipping alarmingly through anxiety into listlessness and often periods of utter despair”.

As the NHS explains, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can also be referred to as ADD (attention deficit disorder). Symptoms are generally grouped into three categories, difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

Lorraine Kelly’s £55 M&S silver sequin midi skirt is ‘glamorous and so comfy’ for the festive season

Lorraine Kelly has been bringing out the festive sparkle with her recent presenter outfit, wearing a £55 silver sequin skirt that’s still in stock at Marks &amp, Spencer

Nothing screams Christmas more than some sparkles and Lorraine Kelly has managed to track down the perfect pick for a last minute festive outfit. The presenter wore the Sequin Midaxi A-Line Skirt from Marks & Spencer last week on her talk show, and it’s a must-buy if you’re still not sure what to wear for Christmas.

The sequin skirt is priced at just £55 and comes in regular, petite and tall lengths. It’s also still available in sizes from six to 20, with only a size 24 currently sold out.

Lorraine’s Sequin Midaxi A-Line Skirt is great for all-out Christmas sparkle, particularly if you pair it with the matching top and a pair of heels. But it’s also surprisingly wearable for most occasions, as demonstrated by the host when she teamed hers with a simple frosty grey jumper which dialled down the all-out glitz.

You could easily pair it with an oversized knit and a pair of trainers for something even more casual, or pop on some knee high boots and a blazer for an office Christmas party-ready look. The midaxi length is also great for giving more coverage, with its A-line silhouette being flattering and comfortable to wear for all body shapes.

To add to the comfort, the Sequin Midaxi A-Line Skirt is made with added stretch so it’ll move with you, and has a zip fastening that makes it easy to slip on and off without damaging any of the sequins. As well as being covered in silver sequins, the skirt (and the matching top) also feature large 3D sequins arranged in a floral shape for some added playfulness and texture – a must for this time of year.

If silver is a little too cool-toned for you, this £59.99 Mango Sequin Midi Skirt in Beige is ideal, with a soft, warm creamy beige colourway and oversized sequins giving it a high end look. The festive season is also a great time to play with colour, and we’re loving Monsoon’s Serenity Sequin Midi Skirt Green which is down from £75 to £60 and features all-over textured beaded details.

Another great pick is the £54 Friends Like These Burgundy Curve Clear Sequin Maxi Skirt from Next, which comes in both regular and curve sizes. It has a more figure-hugging fit with plenty of stretch, and a side slit up the side to make it comfortable and easy to move in.

However, Lorraine’s Sequin Midaxi A-Line Skirt has been a major hit with M&S shoppers, with one review saying: “Gorgeous skirt, glamorous and so comfy! Fit is true to size. Flattering skirt and material is soft and beautiful on.”

Another agreed: “Totally amazing skirt! True to size, comfortable and beautifully made. I can see myself wearing this for so many different occasions”.

One did caution: “Nice shape and style, however I left a trail of sequins on the first wear, hence I haven’t worn it since”.

Another agreed: “This skirt is true to size and falls beautifully. It can be styled casually, I wore mine with a powder blue tee shirt. I did order the matching top but returned it as on me it looked too much. Have omitted one star as I found that on its first wearing the sequins were shedding so I left a trail wherever I went. I hope it stops shedding when I next wear it”.

But another praised it, writing: “I love this skirt and will wear to two Xmas parties (it would also be lovely in summer with a white cami) – very good quality and structure to it, the A-line fits me perfectly and it has some weight to it so it’s not clingy. I bought the 16 regular and at 5ft2, pear shape, the length on me is midi”.

Strictly blow as favourite to replace Tess and Claudia signs rival contract

One of the frontrunners to take on the mantle from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing next year has disappointed fans and TV bosses alike with their latest move

The search to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing has taken a new twist.

TV darling Alison Hammond – a hot favourite to host the BBC show after Tess and Claudia hang up their co-hosting hats, has renewed her presenting contract over at ITV for This Morning.

The beloved telly star, 50, had been rumoured as a frontrunner to take over next year – but she’s now locked into the ITV daytime chatshow, dashing any hopes of her taking up the sparkly reins at the BBC ’s biggest show.

According to a source at the Sun, mum-of-one Alison is very content at This Morning, where she presents alongside Radio 2 DJ Dermot O’Leary every Friday – and steps in ad hoc on other days for other presenters.

The source claimed to the newspaper, “Alison is a huge talent and no one was surprised she’s being looked at for Strictly. But she’s very happy at This Morning so, as far as anyone knows, has no intention to quit to take on the dance show — but there may need to be some juggling of the schedule”.

There were rumours that Bake Off host Alison was one of ten big names set to screen test next month for what is surely one of the biggest gigs on British TV – alongside the likes of Bradley Walsh, Alex Jones and Alan Carr.

There was also speculation that Rylan Clark, Rob Rinder, Zoe Ball, Holly Willoughby, Amanda Holden and Angela Scanlon were also being considered for the top job.

The source went on to claim, however, that “no one is bigger than the show so whichever lucky pair land the jobs will be the ones who the BBC think will be the perfect accompaniment to the series”.

Meanwhile, Alison – whose rise to fame on the small screen has been stratospheric since she won Big Brother in 2022, kickstarting her career as a showbiz reporter for This Morning, has clapped back at any suggestion she’s on too many shows.

Asked if she was worried about being so prolific right now, she told The Guardian defiantly: “No. If I need to rest up or a job doesn’t appeal, I won’t do it. I’m good at saying no. I turn down 10 things per day, no exaggeration.

” It looks like I’m on TV a lot, sure, but I stand out partly because it’s still not the norm to see a Black woman doing this. I don’t want to bring race into it but no one says that about Davina (McCall) or Ant and Dec.

Proudly highlighting the many years she has grafted to get where she is now, the star – who is thought to have recently moved in with her model boyfriend David Putnam, 28 – said, “I’ve worked hard for 22 years to get here. That woman on TikTok is allowed her opinion.

” It keeps me grounded. I’m not a national treasure. I’m just me, doing a job that I adore to the best of my ability, trying to be better than I was yesterday. “

This Morning guest ‘violated’ after ‘horrendous’ discovery on Richard and Judy’s show

The former This Morning guest shared how Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan treated her off-camera, following a “disastrous” moment on the show

A former This Morning guest has revealed how her appearance on the show ended in disaster. Hosted by Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan at the time, podcast host Louise Boyce said she was invited onto the show as a teenager for a live haircut, though was mortified by the outcome.

Joined by Richard and Judy’s daughter Chloe Madeley on her podcast, she told her: “Your mum and dad, it [This Morning] was the first TV show that I went on when I was 15. And, I really want to find the footage, it must be in the archives somewhere, but I went on there to have my haircut, a live haircut.

” I was 15 years old, I was still at school and very aware of how I looked and the haircut was disastrous. “

Recalling her immediate reaction, she said she instantly knew it was” horrendous “but politely told the hairdresser she” really liked it “with a shaky voice.

” But, your mum and dad were so kind to me because they must’ve seen or felt that I was just like, ‘ I hate what you’ve just]done to me’] ‘, “she continued on the No Parental Guidance podcast.

” ‘ You have just violated my hair live on TV, my first ever TV]experience] ‘. And they were so, your mum and dad, even off-camera they were like, ‘ Hair grows, it’s okay’. “

In response, Chloe gushed:” I can’t say it enough how kind he is and how fair of a man he is and how unbelievably good his values and]morals] are. I get really angry when people go for him because I’m like, ‘ You don’t know how good this person is’. “

The fitness guru continued by revealing she’d also picked up valuable lessons from her mum, especially regarding being” a calm “and” well adjusted “parent.

Richard and Judy presented the ITV programme from 1998 to 2001. When previously asked about their decision to leave the show, they said it felt like the right moment to move on and explore new ventures.

The duo went on to front their own programme, Richard and Judy, which was broadcast during early evening slots on Channel 4.

Richard remains a familiar presence on ITV as a presenter on Good Morning Britain, while Judy has stepped away from the public eye.

The former broadcaster was most recently spotted on television during their daughter’s ITV documentary, Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair.

However, after running for just one series, it didn’t return following Chloe’s split from rugby player James Haskell.

TV’s most complained moments of 2025 as raunchy Sabrina Carpenter sparks outrage

Ofcom have confirmed their most complained-about moments of 2025, and ITV’s dating show, Love Island, has taken the top spot with five episodes in the top ten

Love Island’s bullying, breastfeeding and Sabrina Carpenter’s dance routines are some of TV’s most complained-about moments. Ofcom have released the most complained-about TV moments of the year, and Love Island has five episodes in the top ten – making it one of the most complained-about shows.

But it’s not just dating which saw complaints flooding in to the broadcasting watchdog. Some viewers were not best pleased with Sabrina Carpenter’s dance routines at this year’s BRIT Awards. While others also took aim at Charli xcx’s dress for the night.

Vanessa Feltz’s TV show was also criticised following a discussion about breastfeeding and its benefits. GB News was also slammed by viewers over a presenter’s comment, which linked the LGBTQ+ community to paedophiles.

In Ofcom’s report, a statement read: “Complaint numbers have fallen from 2024, and while we’ve had fewer investigations opened and closed, these levels are consistent with what we saw in 2021.

” There are some genres that continue to attract scrutiny, in particular reality TV, which makes up more than half of the 10 most complained about programmes. This year, around three in 10 complaints to Ofcom were about Love Island, with the 2025 series totalling 14, 121 complaints. “
