Investigation into Caroline Flack’s death closed after ‘reasonable’ findings

Caroline Flack’s death and the charges brought against her have been settled. The investigation into officers’ actions in front of the CPS was closed in January, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, and the results were “reasonable and proportionate.”

After allegedly assaulting her then-boyfriend Lewis Burton, Flack was charged with assault by beating in December 2019. After the incident, the Crown Prosecution Service had advised her to be warned. She was later charged after the Metropolitan Police appealed the decision. In February 2020, she tragically committed suicide.

Caroline’s mother argued that Caroline’s celebrity status had a significant impact on the charge’s outcome after the IOPC reviewed her case. London’s Metropolitan Police sent a complaint referral to the IOPC, which contained “a number of allegations about the force’s investigation” into the alleged assault in March of last year.

After allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, Lewis Burton (PA), Caroline Flack was charged.

A Met Police complaint referral was made on March 7, 2024, and it contained a number of allegations about the force’s investigation into an alleged assault involving Caroline Flack in December 2019.

No further action was required because we determined that the majority of the allegations had already been reviewed by the IOPC and investigated by the force.

We ordered the Met to investigate one aspect of the complaint on the grounds that there might be additional witness testimony. This was related to the officers’ responses to the Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS)’s) initial decision not to charge Ms. Flack.

Five allegations were brought back to the force to be resolved fairly. The Met gave the complainant in June, and in July, the Met released results that demonstrated no new evidence that would alter previous outcomes. The outcome was subject to a review by the complainant to the IOPC. In January 2025, we concluded that the outcome was reasonable and appropriate.

In 2024, DPS officers conducted more inquiries and looked at the new evidence, according to a Met spokesperson. The officer’s statement that “the original outcome was acceptable” was not altered. The family filed an appeal with the IOPC after being informed of the outcome in June [2024].

No new evidence that could alter any of the previous outcomes was discovered during the IOPC’s review in January 2025. The IOPC may, however, review this once more in the event that new evidence becomes available.

Coroner Mary Hassell stated that the alleged assault had “played out in the national press” following Flack’s death, which had an effect on the presenter’s mental health. Caroline’s mother, Christine, claimed last year that the incident “wasn’t domestic abuse.”

This was an accident, she claimed to Sky News. But she was described as a domestic abuser in court and in the media, which hurts. Because she wasn’t, I want to get rid of that. Additionally, according to Christine, Flack’s fame caused him to be treated differently.

She said, “She shouldn’t be treated better, but she shouldn’t be treated worse.” Prior to Caroline’s suicide, the Met had previously addressed the IOPC.

Flack’s family filed a complaint with the IOPC after the DPS determined there was no misconduct. The office was ordered to apologize in 2023 after failing to explain why it had appealed the caution, but they claimed it had not found any instances of misconduct.

Lewis, her ex-boyfriend, also stated that he didn’t support the prosecution, and that he had publicly criticized this after her death. Flack was detained shortly after 5am at her London home on December 12, 2019. According to police, there was a “domestic disturbance” when they were called to a residential address.

One day later, she was charged. A Met spokesperson said: “Caroline Flack, 40, of Islington, was charged with assault by beating on Friday, December 13th. On Monday, December 23rd, she will appear in Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court for bail.

Following reports of a man being assaulted, an incident occurred on Thursday, December 12 at around 05:25. He didn’t suffer any serious injuries.

Close friend of the cameraman John Bartley, who won an Emmy Award, has revealed that he passed away at the age of 78.

The X-Files-starring New Zealand-born cinematographer passed away on Sunday in Los Angeles. The tragic news was confirmed on social media by his friend Polly Pierce.

The Australian filmmaker reported that John S. Bartley, my long-time mentor and dear friend, has passed away. “I wouldn’t be in film if it weren’t for John and his groundbreaking work on @thexfilestv.”

For his contributions to the well-known series, John received three ASC Award nominations and two Primetime Emmy nominations, including the 1996 Emmy for the episode “Grotesque.”

For Lost and Bates Motel episodes, he received more Emmy nominations. The cinematographer was a theatre cashier and a career military officer in Wellington, New Zealand.

When John was 12 years old, his father abruptly passed away at the age of 53. John and his brother would spend the next two years with their mother at the office, where they would sit until she finished her shift.

They were occasionally permitted to watch musical performances on stage. Only one channel was available to the population in his city when broadcast television first started broadcasting in 1960.

“I was fascinated by movies. We used to go to the theater on school trips, John said.

After graduating from high school, John began working as a lighting director for theater and television.

In 2011, John said, “I was really lucky. Two station lighting technicians taught me what I needed to know about television, even though I had no idea what it was. I learned how to use light to bring out black-and-white tones in televisions to help tell stories. In those days, television was black-and-white.

Two years after moving to Canada, he soon met filmmakers at the rental house William F. White International, Inc.

John then worked on The X Files’ I Want to Believe, Odd Girl Out, Another Life, The Chronicles of Riddick, Wrong Turn, Echo, Another Stakeout, Disturbing Behaviour, and more.

He is credited with producing The Good Doctors, Vikings, Los, Roswell, Wu Assassins, 21 Jump Street, and Booker for television.

Taurus (Apr 21 – May 21)

When this allows you to unwind and let go of your work load for a while, a change in daily routines is not a bad thing. Just enough thought patterns to allow creativity to flow. You are inspired to try something new by the unanticipated.

Cancer (June 22 – July 23)

Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 20)

Old agreements and agreements are starting to sag as a result of fresh ideas. You might be tempted to adhere to a well-known pattern, but doing so only serves to entice others to try to promote new ideas. Innovation currently outperforms tradition.

Aquarius (Jan 21 – Feb 19)

Give yourself the freedom to think. Don’t push it down because some situations might not be appropriate for it. Instead, use enthusiasm and flair to express your opinions. If a bold idea is embraced by the right person, it will gain popularity.

Bake Off judge Prue Leith takes aim at waiter’s ‘lectures’ which ruined romantic meal

When Mary Berry took over the role of Mary Berry on The Great British Bake Off in 2017, Dame Prue Leith, who wanted to eat fish and chips at “what used to be a good pub,” was unsuccessful.

Bake Off judge Dame Prue Leith blasted a restaurant after a waiter’s “lectures” between courses dashed her hopes of a romantic dinner.

The veteran broadcaster, who became a judge on The Great British Bake Off in 2017 to replace Mary Berry, slammed restaurants with increasingly complicated menus following her visit to an establishment with her husband. The star recalled she hoped to have an “intimate (I hoped romantic) dinner” but the waiter “gave us a lecture on every course”.

Prue, 85, agreed that there was “no chance” of having an intimate meal with her partner. The Cordon Bleu-trained chef wrote, “The night before our wedding, my husband-to-be and I went out to a Michelin-starred restaurant for an intimate (I hoped romantic) dinner.

There isn’t a chance of that. The waiter lectured us on all of the courses, gave us a map of the restaurant’s locations, and promised to read it at the end, the chef came out for a round of foodie talk and wouldn’t leave.

Prue also claimed in a letter to The Oldie magazine that she had gone to another restaurant in search of “what used to be a good pub” in the hope of having fish and chips. The mother of two initially couldn’t find this on the menu until she examined the document more carefully.

I ordered “Sustainability-certified North Sea halibut loin, coated in tempura-style batter made from Hook Norton Ironstone lager and Billy’s free-range organic eggs,” according to Prue, who was born in South Africa and immigrated to London in 1960. “Fish and chips” are served with “local Maris Piper potatoes, triple-fried in Cotswold Gold corn oil.”

The presenter, who was previously on The Great British Menu, said her experience shows how “pandering to foodies” are they? She remarked, “Menu-devisers now write essays on every course, pandering to foodies.”
