Ben Fogle opens up on quitting UK as he warns ‘we’re all in danger’

After suffering a “small breakdown” in 2023, TV presenter Ben Fogle warned that the UK is in danger of being “overflowing with noise, materialism, and fear.”

Ben Fogle has issued a stark warning that “we’re all in danger of being overwhelmed” as he contemplates leaving the UK behind. The 52-year-old first shot to fame on the BBC reality programme Castaway 2000.

As the new millennium began, 36 people were positioned on Taransay, a remote Scottish island. The social experiment sought to see if participants would be able to sustain themselves throughout the duration of the filming process.

Ben has subsequently presented numerous television programmes including Countryfile and Cash in the Attic.

He acknowledges that he had a “small breakdown” in 2023 as a result of being “overwhelmed” by the “noise and chaos” of social media platforms. For the first time in his life, he acknowledges feeling anxious and nervous.

This led Ben to declare there is a “mental health epidemic” gripping the country. Yet he maintains there remains a “stigma” surrounding conversations about mental health challenges, reports the Express.

Ben has now made his television debut with New Lives in the Wild in response to his personal “wobble.” He explains how “living off-grid” can assist people who are struggling with bereavement, financial difficulties, or their own mental well-being.

Ben was the subject of the impact of social media because of this. He warned readers of his warning in a conversation with Radio Times magazine: “We’re all in danger of being suffocated by noise, materialism, and fear. The negative aspects of social media have increased, the hate, the constant comparison, and the cacophony become worse.

Ben acknowledges that despite being a first social media user, he now has a greater opportunity to watch TV or listen to podcasts.

He even considers quitting his job to live off the grid in Britain.

He continued, “One day I’d like to find a small off-grid cabin of my own, maybe somewhere in Norway or Sweden; an island in the Arctic Circle sounds nice and I can go into the wilderness.”

Ben envisions paddling in his Canadian canoe, cutting and stacking firewood, and taking early-morning bracing dips. He anticipates that by adopting a non-grid lifestyle, he could learn new skills like “painting or boat-buidling.”

He acknowledges, however, that a canine companion would not be enough to fulfill his vision. Ben’s beloved black Labrador Inca and him both made the heartbreaking decision to have her put to death in 2012.

He previously revealed he believes he “owes everything” to Inca. Writing in The Telegraph, Ben reflected: “Without Inca, I’m not sure how well I would have fared for the whole year. She was my reason – and excuse – to go off and explore the island; indeed, we rechristened one of the hills Inca Ra because she and I spent so much time there.

Castaway “put me in the spotlight,” I said. I was given the power to keep my name, but Inca still permeated my name. Although I never intended to work in the media, my success and the addition of a cute puppy undoubtedly contributed to my name being known. We worked together.

Brooklyn Beckham stunned his followers with an explosive statement slamming his parents’ behaviour and calling them out for what he said was spinning the narrative of their fallout

Everything we know from the aftermath of yesterday’s Brooklyn Beckham bombshell statement

  • Brooklyn Beckham created quite the chaos with his six-page Instagram Stories statement calling out his parents on Monday evening. And in the aftermath, a lot more has reared its head – from celebrity comments to David Beckham speaking out.
  • In the early hours, after Rhodri Giggs had praised Brooklyn for his comments, Rebecca Loos had her say. No stranger to controversial moments with the family following previous affair allegations, Rebecca explained she is “so happy” to see Brooklyn standing up for himself. “The truth always comes out,” she said.
  • Dad David broke his cover on Tuesday as he appeared at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He was later confronted about his son’s comments and said: “I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media . . . For the good and for the bad. What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons. I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF.” He added that he has tried to educate his kids, who have been “allowed to make mistakes”.
  • Even Downing Street got involved. In a joke statement when asked about Brooklyn’s post, the Prime Minister’s spokesman said: “PM has been addressing a number of different issues at the moment but he has always been clear diplomacy is important.”
  • Cruz seems to be firmly on the side of his parents. The youngest son of the couple has previously posted in their defence. But as he broke his social media silence, he seemingly avoided the situation. He simply revealed he was in the recording studio ahead of his upcoming gigs.
  • Brooklyn is said to hold all the cards following his statement after calling out his mum, Victoria, for humiliating him. It’s claimed that only Brooklyn has access to the dance that Brooklyn spoke about in his scathing statement. However, a source believes he won’t make the footage public.

Brooklyn Beckham’s ex-girlfriend claims ‘Victoria didn’t like me’ as she breaks silence

Tallia Storm, former flame Tallia Storm, shares her thoughts on the conflict and some of his mother Victoria’s more upsetting moves following Brooklyn Beckham’s blistering attack on his family.

As Brooklyn Beckham’s bombshell statement about his estranged family continues to cause shockwaves, one of his famous ex-girlfriends, singer Tallia Storm, tells the Mirror she is most definitely ‘Team Brooklyn’.

Recalling their time together as teens, circa 2014, Tallia called Brooklyn her ‘first love’, she says: “We were just 16. I was the first girl that had ever been spotted with Brooklyn.”

She was invited to Brooklyn at the time of the event, which was a music gig at Hanover Square in the capital. What transpired next shocked her.

She claims that Victoria sent a security team to the venue during the day to check it. “I didn’t realize it was that deep, but er, okay!” There were about 20 paparazzi outside the venue when my sister and I arrived at the concert that night while I was sound-checking.

It was wild for me to go through this, she continues. I was terrified because I didn’t want Brooklyn to believe I had called the paps!

On another occasion, Tallia claims she was meant to attend the Global Gift Gala with Brooklyn, hosted by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria – Victoria’s long-time pal who she knew, having previously been introduced to her by the former Spice Girl. But things didn’t quite work out as planned.

She goes on to say that she was supposed to sit next to Brooklyn and that we were all very excited, but he texted me the next day, saying that my mother wouldn’t let me enter, and I’m sorry. That was it. Evidently, Victoria disliked me or whatever.

Years later, when I first meet him, he’s so cool, so lovely, and that’s a big deal. However, that is an illustration of a PR blizzard that was completely unnecessary.

And Tallia maintains that she is in for a treat because of it. It’s always made me appear to be a fervent aspiring star. I never want to get involved in it because it feels like a little sticky web.

She continues, “I have never accepted a penny from anyone wanting to talk about Brooklyn.” But ultimately, I believe the light always shines through, and sometimes you have to allow life to flow freely.

When I met Brooklyn, I wasn’t “Tallia Storm,” but I was a girl who Elton John had discovered because she thought I had a certain “something” about me. Although we were just kids, we had a mutual crush on each other while I was still in school.

“When we started hanging out, David would drop him off at my house in London, I would go to theirs – I’ve met Victoria and honestly, it was just all lovely.”

Of Brooklyn’s explosive statement, Tallia confesses: “My first thought was, good for him. People have all heard a million stories over the years, and I just think, God bless Brooklyn for just coming out and sticking up for himself.

He has already had enough, I believe. I am 100% Team Brooklyn. That boy has endured a lot, according to what I believe the Beckham “web” has been through over the years. It has a significant impact on anyone. So, congratulations on his saying, “Enough is enough.” He is regaining control in this situation.

As for his wife Nicola Peltz, whom Brooklyn stated fiercely in his statement he had never been ‘controlled’ by, she says, “I’ve never met her personally, but I do think Nicola is Brooklyn’s soulmate. And I do think they’re a little dream team. Good for him, for taking a stand. I’m proud of him. It takes a lot to come out and say what he says.”

The Scottish star, whose mother is pr guru and entrepreneur Tessa Hartman CBE, adds, “Especially with boys, they tend to gravitate toward the wife-happy wife, happy life,” quoting one of her own brothers. Although I’m not sure if Victoria ever chose to attack Nicola, the choice is risky.

As she tells us, she feels for Brooklyn, growing up as a part of one of the world’s most famous families. “That boy hasn’t had an easy run. And he’s been heavily scrutinised whatever he does, from photographing elephants to cooking – he can’t catch a break. I take my hat off to him, and I hope he and Nicola feel a bit of weight has been taken off their shoulders, now.”

Tallia claims that the Brooklyn she knew wasn’t “teetering” on fame during their relationship. Simply put, he wasn’t that person. He was simply cool. Just having fun with the kids. Victoria’s invitation to my gig simply served as a cover story for it.

I’m not nearly as famous as Brooklyn, but I’m aware that whatever I’ve done because I’m constantly asked about Brooklyn, imagine him? I’ve given what he experiences a lot of thought.

As for Brooklyn’s comments that his mother had danced ‘inappropriately’ at his wedding, it’s not something she recognises but admits: “I know nothing about any of that. All I recall is Victoria always being very chatty and bubbly – she would always bring big energy.”

The first time she met the designer, she says: “I’ll never forget it, she was wearing a pair of stripy pyjamas – I just thought, how iconic. I only went to their Holland Park home a couple of times, but they just seemed like a normal, loving family. All very easy-going. I never saw any crazy, diva moments.”

Though they haven’t exactly stayed in touch and move in ‘totally different circles’ nowadays, Tallia has bumped into Brooklyn at events over the years and they’ll always catch up – but says she won’t be reaching out to him following his explosive post.

Heading soon to the Grammy Awards in the US as one of the star-studded music event’s red carpet presenters, the former Capital Breakfast host hopes to see her ex and his wife there. “If I see them, we’ll definitely have a chat”.

Last summer, Tallia said she believed the Beckhams ‘fall out and make up’ like any other family, but do ‘love each other’. Her opinion on that, sadly, has now changed entirely.

I like to keep my optimism going because my family is big and we are close, so I’d hate to split up with them. We always come to terms with our differences, despite how often I fight with my family. What’s it all for, my mother always reminds me of: if your family isn’t happy, how much fame and money suffice?

“Maybe that’s the Beckhams’ issue.” They forbid any typical ups and downs. Perhaps the picture-perfect life has taken a toll. Simply put, I’m not sure. But sadly, I don’t believe there will ever be a return.

Coronation Street Will actor’s real age revealed amid vile grooming plot

Will Driscoll, played by Coronation Street’s Lucas Hodgson-Wale, is now age, according to a source close to Coronation Street’s shocking grooming plot.

Coronation Street’s Will Driscoll is at the centre of a harrowing grooming storyline – but how old is actor Lucas Hodgson-Wale?

Actor Lucas joined the ITV soap last year when Will moved from Hull to Weatherfield with his family: dad Ben (Aaron McCusker), grandmother Maggie (Pauline McLynn) and Ben’s girlfriend Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) who returned after seven years.

However, it was later revealed that Will was being groomed by his athletics coach Megan (Beth Nixon), who ended up moving to Weatherfield to continue their relationship.

With a new teaching job at Weatherfield High, Megan has also struck up a romance with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) – much to Will’s annoyance and jealousy.

Will and Megan’s secret relationship has gone unnoticed so far and Will’s family are none the wiser about Megan’s true colours. This month though, the soap dropped a huge baby bombshell when it was revealed that Megan was pregnant.

Megan chose to keep the child despite having an abortion planned, and this week she revealed to Will that he was actually his real father. Will told her he wanted to be involved, even though she was initially shocked.

Megan and Will traveled to A&amp, E on Tuesday (January 20) to get checked out in the midst of their fears for their unborn child. The pair were almost caught after Will’s dad, Ben, was taken to the hospital with chest pains.

Later, Megan informed Will that their baby was fine and showed him an ultrasound of the baby, which delighted him. She then cautioned him that until they have enough money to leave the street, they should keep their distance for the time being.

Lucas’ first TV role aside from the long-running soap is Coronation Street. And while Will is 16 years old, a soap representative has just confirmed Lucas is 17 years old, Reach was previously told.

Beth Nixon, a 25-year-old actress, turns 26 later this year. Corrie is the York native’s first television job, just like Lucas. She auditioned for the role of evil Megan on the soap twice before.

“I auditioned for a girl who was struggling with Lauren at the mother and baby unit, then for the part of Lauren Bolton.” My agent called me, explained the role, and inquired about an audition, according to her. In her 2022 debut, actress Cait Fitton made her comedic debut. Since then, she hasn’t stopped on the program.

‘I was disowned by son like Brooklyn Beckham – Victoria must now do one thing’

Beckham’s vile statement about his parents, David and Victoria, was condemned by a mum who is well-versed in family rifts, but the 26-year-old has been criticised for his actions.

A mum-of-four who claimed she was “disowned” by her eldest son has called Brooklyn Beckham a “spoilt brat” after his bombshell attack on his parents.

Carla Bellucci – once branded ‘Britain’s most hated woman’ for conning the NHS for a free nose job – said she can relate to what David and Victoria Beckham are going through.

The former glamour model, who posed for Page 3 in her younger years, has spoken in the past about her eldest son cutting contact after she joined a racy subscription site, despite insisting she only sold bikini pictures.

Carla expressed shock and hurt over her son’s apparent “absolutely disgusted” behavior in a statement, and she acknowledged Victoria’s current state of being “humiliated.”

In his statement on Instagram, Brooklyn, addressing his wedding day with wife Nicola Peltz, said Victoria “danced very inappropriately” on him in front of 500 guests and he said he had never felt “more uncomfortable” in his life.

And in response to this, Carla, 44, told Brooklyn, 26, that he needed to “lighten up” and that women his mother’s age weren’t “boring” like younger generations who she believes lack the ability to have fun.

She told The Mirror: “I think it is a pure insult to Victoria. I know exactly how she feels and it’s so disappointing and humiliating. She will feel awful and it could break her like it nearly did me. I think he is a spoilt brat that needs to learn to respect his parents. We all do the best for our kids and you only get one set of parents.

It is “unflawful on all levels.” How dare he accuse his parents of wrongdoing them in public? He is completely out of line and a brat. He received everything, and they are now paid.

Brooklyn’s mother, who resides in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, believes that he will eventually regret criticizing his parents for living a life full of opportunities. She also speculated that if he were to have his own children one day, he would only realize how fortunate he was.

She claimed that most people do everything in their power to avoid perfection and that parents don’t get a manual for this.

She said, “Just move on with your life because you have no choice,” and she was speaking to Victoria as well. You must block it out and hope that they will eventually come clean and apologize.

Carla explained that the Beckham fiasco has reminded her of her own family dramas. She says she currently exchanges two messages a year with her son for his birthday and Christmas.

She added: “The Beckham situation hits home and it is the worst thing in the world. It is truly heartbreaking and it’s almost like they will be grieving.

Phil Collins’ incredible comeback plan despite grim health battle – ‘I’m not dead yet’

As one of the best-selling artists in the world gets ready to celebrate his 75th birthday, Phil Collins addresses rumours of a final farewell tour

When his assistant walked in with an inflatable balloon in the shape of the number 2, Phil Collins was confused. “Who’s two?” he asked her. “She said, ‘No, it’s two years since we had a drink.’” It’s a massive achievement for Phil, whose drinking led to pancreatitis so severe that his will was discussed while he was in hospital – in front of his children. He admits: “It’s been a difficult, interesting, frustrating last two years.”

Describing his drinking, he continues: “I wasn’t one of those guys that stayed up all night drinking, I’d drink during the day. But I guess I had too much of it and it all caught up with me.” Phil, who turns 75 on January 30, is speaking to Zoe Ball for an exclusive interview to be aired on Radio 2 in early February. He talks frankly about his cocktail of health problems, starting with a spinal injury during the 2007 Genesis tour, which triggered nerve damage affecting his hands and legs – forcing him to stop drumming and retire from touring in 2022. He has also had knee operations and he has type 2 diabetes and hearing loss from a viral infection he picked up in 2000.

Living alone in Switzerland in 2008, the year he finalised his divorce from third wife Orianne Cevey – although they reconciled in 2016 and then parted again in 2020 – also escalated his drinking, when he had “too much time on my hands.” But today, Phil looks trim and fit and is considering going back into the studio and even touring. He says: “I have a 24 hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication. “I’ve had five operations on my knee. but now I’ve got a knee that works and I can walk, albeit with crutches. But I’m not dead yet.

“The things that are ahead for me would be, apart from just being back to being totally mobile and healthy, sort of maybe go in there [into the recording studio] and have a fiddle about and see if there’s more music. So that is something on my horizon. I’ve got some things that are half formed or were never finished, and a couple of things that were finished, so you know there’s maybe life in the old dog yet. Never say never.”

With three UK number one singles, two Golden Globes, six Brit Awards and eight Grammy Awards under his belt, Phil Collins has had an incredible career. He has also had a very colourful love life – with divorce settlements reportedly costing him £42m. Orianne was his third wife; his second marriage from 1984 to 1996 was to Jill Tavelman and his first, from 1975 to 1980 was to Andrea Bertorelli.

But he is immensely proud of his five children – his adopted daughter Joely, 53, son Simon, 49, daughter Lily, 36, and sons Nicholas, 24, and Matthew, 20. Actress Lily is a celebrated actress, with credits including Emily in Paris, Snow White and Mirror, Mirror. While Nic plays drums and fills in for his father in Genesis and Mike and the Mechanics. Phil says: “I had a very happy family life. My kids are amazingly well adjusted considering some of the things that they’ve been through. I’m very proud of all of them. They’ve all stood on their own and done what they believe in.”

Nic and Phil have played together on many occasions, although Nic professes to being nervous about standing in for his famous father, He says: “He’d come by the side of the drum riser on some of the instrumental bits. Once I figured out that he wasn’t sitting there to judge me – it became a really nice moment that we shared.”

Phil says Nic’s talent “surprised the sh** out of me’”. Recalling how he’d play drums with Nic and Matthew when they were kids, he says: “They’ve had two drum kits and my drum kit down in the playroom and we all used to play together and then they played together and Nic just got better and better. I’m very proud of him and he’s amazing. I’m very proud of all my kids, they’ve all done incredibly well.”

Phil’s oldest son, Simon, is also a musician and drummer – a former lead singer of progressive rock band Sound of Contact. His eldest daughter, Joely, is an actress and producer and his youngest son, Matthew, is a professional football player in Austria. Phil, whose dad Greville was an insurance agent, and mum, June, was a talent manager, got his first drum kit aged five – the same year he started drama school and landed the role of the Artful Dodger in a West End production of Oliver.

Reminiscing about sell-out concerts he has performed at, he says: “Sometimes I feel like, wouldn’t it be nice if we did it again. I just don’t know if I wanna go as far as to launch that boat, you know? Because once you launch it, it’s difficult to unlaunch it.”

Growing up in Chiswick, west London, Phil – who joined Genesis as the drummer in 1970 – says becoming the frontman when Peter Gabriel quit in 1975 was not planned. He confesses: “The job was kind of thrust upon me by default because we couldn’t find a singer. I was very reluctant at first and it was my first wife that said ‘Why don’t you do it?’ and at that point I bit the bullet. Having to go down the front and stand with just this microphone stand scared the life out of me. The drums were like a security blanket – you’ve got something between you and the audience. Everyone’s looking at you ‘cause you are the singer, whereas they didn’t look at the drummer. I was suddenly under the spotlight.”

But, as the hits – like Follow You Follow Me – came, his confidence grew and in 1981 he began a successful solo career, with hits like In the Air Tonight reaching number 2 in the UK charts. Phil also worked with former Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant in the early 1980s, drumming on his first two solo albums, touring with him and performing with him at the 1985 Live Aid concert. Robert says: “We had so much fun. I love him and he played a big part in my early career take-off, post Led Zeppelin.”

Article continues below

Looking back on his astonishing career and the incredible people he has worked with, despite his health difficulties and the drink problem that he seems to have conquered, Phil has few regrets. He says: “I’d love to do it again. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”
