Ruth Langsford, the actress for Loose Women, opened up about her mother Joan’s ongoing health battle and why Christmas feels special this year.

Ruth Langsford has spoken about the bittersweet feelings she has around Christmas, amid her mum’s ongoing health battle. The presenter’s 94-year-old mum Joan has Alzheimer’s disease and lives in a care home close to Ruth’s house.

The 65-year-old manages all of her personal needs, including taking care of any shopping requests and attending her mother’s medical appointments.

Ruth says she treasures every moment they spend together and is mindful of her mother’s age and health.

The Loose Women star is well aware of how precious time is, having endured two periods of grief in her family over the years.

Her sister Julia, who had been struggling with depression for seven years, and her father tragically passed away from dementia-related complications in 2012.

She treasures the time she has with Joan despite the fact that she misses her late loved ones during the holidays.

She told Woman Magazine, “I must admit that I do make every Christmas extra special.” Every year with my lovely mother is a privilege because I speak a lot about her and the struggle she faces.

Ruth continued, “I will spend the big day with family,” while expanding her plans for the festive season. I always cook something that I really enjoy. I particularly miss my dad at Christmas.

I value every minute I spend with her, and I’m not sure how many more Christmases she [her mother] might have.

Along with her 23-year-old son Jack, who she shares with her ex-husband Eamonn Holmes, Ruth will also enjoy some quality time.

Fans were shocked to learn that the pair split after 14 years of marriage last year. While Ruth is reportedly single, he has since moved on to his new life, Katie Alexander.

The Loose Women regular said she makes her best effort to “keep the traditions alive” at her home despite the fact that she and Eamonn are separated.

“Even though Jack is grown up, I love to keep the traditions alive. [I still do] stockings, loads of decorations and Christmas games. Christmas is magical, no matter what age you are,” she shared.

Ruth described her years of difficult times as the “happiest” she’s been in a while.

The mother-of-one expressed gratitude for the “fabulous opportunities” she has been given while reflecting on her career plans and showed no signs of slowing down.

The presenter is a regular face on QVC, an anchor on Loose Women, and was also once a weekly presenter on This Morning with Eamonn.

Recently asked if she’d make a return to the ITV show with her “TV son” Rylan Clark, she said: “If they’d have me, they only have to ask, especially with Rylan!

Lacey Turner is currently taking a break from playing Stacey Slater in EastEnders.

Fans watched Stacey leave Walford for a new life in Brazil in emotional scenes of the BBC One which aired last month.

However, Lacey has since reassured viewers that Stacey won’t be gone for longe.

Lacey Turner left the BBC soap in May to concentrate on her life outside the program, as previously announced.

Lacey told The Sun at the time: “It’s time for myself and Stacey to take a rest and who knows what Stacey will get up to in her time away? Knowing Stacey, it will never be boring.”
