Cameron Norrie, the British player, ended Carlos Alcaraz’ 17-game winning streak at the ATP Masters 1000 level by defeating him on Tuesday with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz, who was just claiming his eighth title of the year in Tokyo, was out of his element, making 54 unforced errors and venting his frustration with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

After capturing the opening set, Alcaraz, Alcaraz, and Norrie failed to hold on to maintain momentum, while the world number 31 saved two break points in the seventh game of the final set, holding serve to win the match after two hours and 22 minutes.
“Massive (victory), so big for me,” Norrie remarked. I’ve been recovering from my injury. I lost my first round of qualifying here last year.
I just made an effort to enjoy my tennis in the second half of the year, which was my biggest win of the year, taking it against a world number one and especially a player who is currently the most confident player in the world.
Alcaraz’s defeat put an end to his dominating Masters 1000 run that started with the Miami Open, where he won titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati. This was his first loss before a final since March.
Norrie moved into the last 16 of a Masters competition for the first time since 2023 in Rome, and his victory also matched his best performance from 2021 in Paris.
If Jannik Sinner from Italy wins the Paris title this week, Alcaraz  risks losing the year-end world number one spot.
In a , rematch of the Shanghai Masters final, Norrie will next face Valentin Vacherot or Arthur Rinderknech.
