At the Genesis Championship in South Korea, England’s Laurie Canter sank a 100-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole to finish in contention for second place.
The 35-year-old finished eight under par in Cheonan, three shots behind home favorite Jung-Hwan Lee, thanks to his incredible final putt, which earned him the lead by three shots.
The Texas Open putt in April by Patrick Fishburn is the longest in a major professional tournament since 2025.
Elvira and Sweden’s Mikael Lindberg shared the third-round lead, but bogeys at the eleventh and seventeenth holes cost them.
Elvira needed an eagle on the 18th to make it possible for them to play-off, but South Koreans Lee’s superb seven-under 64 put his second shot in the water on the final round of 64.
With fellow Englishman Andy Sullivan finishing in third place after a final round of 70, Canter’s final round score of 67 included three birdies.
“This was my best round,” I said in a statement to the gallery, who was cheering me on. They gave me the strength I needed, Lee told Sky Sports.
