Brooklyn Beckham went nuclear last night, accusing his mum, Victoria Beckham, of ‘hijaking’ his wedding dance and backing out of an agreement to make Nicola’s dress at the ‘eleventh hour’. But not everyone thinks his claims stack up
Brooklyn Beckham’s nuclear attack on parents Victoria and David Beckham had the internet swarming with reactions and theories last night – with some claiming his allegations don’t add up.
Brooklyn launched the ultimate attack on his Instagram story, hitting back at claims that he wanted to reconcile with his estranged family and accusing his mum of multiple offences, including ‘hijaking’ his wedding dance and ‘humiliating’ him with her ‘inappropriate’ moves.
He claimed that mum Victoria, 51, left his bride high and dry after backing out on an agreement to design her wedding dress at the ‘eleventh hour’, leading to a frantic search for a replacement. In the end, she wore Valentino.
“During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me ”evil” because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands. Both of our parents had their own tables equally adjacent to ours,” he raged of the family tensions. “The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was ‘not blood’ and ‘not family’.
“My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
But fans believe they’ve spotted several holes in his version of events. Content creator Alex (AKA ‘@poutinesmom’) took to TikTok to breakdown her wild theory about what really happened at the wedding.
With over 154k views, creator Alex claimed there was inconsistencies, in particular over the dress. Indeed, Nicola – a billionaire heiress – told Vogue that “the dress took a year to make with Valentino,” and that “there were six fittings. Three in Los Angeles and three in Milan.” Doesn’t really sound like a dress pulled out [of thin air] at the 11th hour because Victoria Beckham backed out, right?” questioned Alex.
“Normally, with couture dresses like that, either Victoria Beckham or Valentino, you don’t really get much of a choice what they make for you. It’s sort of ‘you get what you get'”. Alex then theorised that perhaps there had been several dresses on the go all along. “What if, as somebody who isn’t exactly short on budget, she decided to hedge her bets and order multiple dresses – get multiple dresses made and then decide which on e she was going to wear?
“As it gets closer to the day, she realises she’s not as jazzed on the Victoria Beckham one, decides she’s going to wear that second for the reception. Victoria Beckham says f*** that, I’m making the ceremony dress or I’m making nothing, because everyone knows the ceremony dress is what gets run in the press.”
She continues: “And I think that if the ‘last minute’ Valentino dress was true, I think that would have been mentioned in the Vogue article. Vogue love stuff like that… a fun story about how there was a ‘cock up’ with the dress, and they had to make this dress in no time at all, and it ended out so amazing, and better than she could have ever imagined, that would have been great to run in Vogue”. However, that’s “not what ran”.
The second part of the creator’s analysis focused on the incident of Victoria’s alleged takeover, which has already led to a viral meme. Brooklyn claims that he was called to the stage by Marc Anthony expecting to dance with his new wife, but was instead greeted by his mother.
However, Vogue itself has contradicted that claim stating that the newlyweds’ first dance was to South African singer Lloyiso’s rendition of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love and that Marc Anthony took to the stage much later at 11pm to perform his track I Need To Know. It says that’s when “Brooklyn invited his mother on stage for a dance and they were joined by David and their 10-year-old daughter, Harper.”
So what was the truth? “My theory? There were two first dances,” says Alex. “[There were] two first dances. There was was I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You before the dinner, the traditional first dance, and then Brooklyn and Nicola were under the impression they were also going to get a first dance when Mark Anthony performed, probably as the reception opens up after dinner.”
Posted just two hours ago, January 20, Alex concluded she believes “two things can be true at once”. The video has accumulated 28,500 likes so far and nearly 200 comments, with many fans agreeing their initial scepticism over the last minute dress. Shockingly, one user wrote: “As someone who did an internship with Victoria, I’m 100 percent on Brooklyn and Nicola’s side”. The comment itself received nearly 300 likes and a reply from the user, who appeared to agree by saying: “I used to fit model for VB back in the day lol… She’s definitely not a wallflower”.
Another user suggested Nicola may have “commissioned the dress from Valentino on the sly and VB found out,” whilst a third commented: “The thing is it was their day and if they feel it didn’t go their way then that’s what counts”. ‘@poutinesmom’ replied: “100 percent no excuse for ruining someone’s wedding”.
