The European gymastics championship in Leipzig, Germany, saw the men of Great Britain win team gold.
The winning score for the senior squad was 247.528 points, made up of Jake Jarman and Harry Hepworth, double European floor champion Luke Whitehouse, Jonas Rushworth and Jamie Lewis, both newcomers to the senior squad.
That total was sufficient to fend off the Swiss and Italian challenges and win Britain its first gold in the competition since 2022.
Jarman, who was a member of the Munich quartet, said to BBC Sport: “I’m incredibly proud of this team. I was unsure of how we would get along when a new team started this, but it just seemed like the team’s chemistry came together so seamlessly.
I was merely attempting to make them enjoy it. You don’t want to leave a competition feeling disappointed afterward because we put in all the effort back in the gym at home.
Rushworth, age 19, was making his GB senior debut.
He stated to BBC Sport, “It’s a privilege to play for this team.”
There is no better group of men to accompany than this. I was so impressed by the experience, and I’m already looking forward to the future.
The mixed team final will take place on Wednesday while the team event also served as qualifying for the men’s all-around and apparatus finals.
