On January 31st, live on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, British light-welterweight Adam Azim takes on Argentine Gustavo Lemos at the Copper Box Arena in London.
After Jeamie “TKV” Tshikeva and Frazer Clarke announced the BBC’s partnership with Boxxer last month, it will be the second time professional boxing has been on primetime linear BBC television in 20 years.
Unbeaten British bantamweight champion Francesca Hennessy will headline the undercard for Azim v. Lemos.
In the WBC bantamweight title fight between her and Ellie Boutell, she defeats Cherneka Johnson in the final eliminator.
Azim, 23, has won all 14 of his fights, with the majority of them knockout, but are stepping up as he tries to win the world title.
Lemos, 29, a former IBF light-welterweight champion, is in Azim’s path in January, and Azim claims that this is the “kind of fight I’ve been asking for.”
“Gustavo Lemos is a dangerous fighter, and I need to show him that I’m up for the top,” Azim said.
“To watch a big event close to home in London while competing live on BBC Two is going to be a special moment is going to be a big moment for me.”
I’m prepared to put on another performance that will make me a world champion.
