With a “serious illness,” Brigitte Bardot, who had a successful career in film and entertainment that spanned more than 20 years, was taken to a hospital in Toulon, France.
Iconic actress Brigitte Bardot is now recovering at home following her stay in hospital with a “serious illness”.
The movie star, 91, is thought to have had surgery after she was rushed to the private hospital in Toulon, France this month. Now, it has emerged the actress – one of the best known symbols of the sexual revolution in the late 1950s to early 1970s – is well enough to have been discharged from hospital. The mum of one is now resting at home in Saint-Tropez, southern France, following the operation.
Bardot’s representative told reputable French news agency AFP that the actress thanked the Saint-Jean Private Hospital’s staff and the surgical staff. Fans who expressed concern for Ms. Bardot’s health on social media are likely to gain from the update. One user wrote on X: “God bless her.” One of my favorite people is her. Another person said, “All of my heart is with you, Madame Bardot.”
Ms. Bardot, who was born in Paris in 1934, enjoyed a distinguished career. The actress has recently taken a step back from the stage and is rarely seen out in public, though.

But Ms Bardot became world famous in the 1950s and ’60s for her free-spirited performances in movies such as And God Created Woman. As a singer, she also released several records during that time. She stopped acting in the 1970s, permanently moved to the French Riviera town of Saint-Tropez, and dedicated herself to the animal welfare cause through a foundation in her name.
However, she experienced severe breathing problems in July 2023, which prompted emergency personnel to rush to her Saint-Tropez home. Her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, at the time, confirmed the incident, revealing that the emergency services had initially been given the incorrect address.
However, the actress managed to overcome both this week’s health scare and one that required surgery. The exact nature of the issue has not been made public by her representatives.
When Ms. Bardot found fame after breaking into the Elle cover, which led to an acting job offer for the movie Les Lauriers sont coupés, she was just 15 years old. She was featured in Simon de Beauvoir’s essay The Lolita Syndrome in 1957, earning her reputation as a hero for his role in And God Created Woman.
The star is also recognised for her performances in The Truth, Le Méprris, Viva Maria!among others. She has also appeared in Voulez-vous danser avec moi?, Les Amours célèbres, and Don Juan 1973 ou Si Don Juan était une femme….
She left the entertainment industry in 1973, recording 60 songs, and giving her last performance a musical farewell.
