Evan Ferguson, a Brighton striker, has signed for Italian side Roma for a season-long loan.

The Republic of Ireland international is attempting to rebuild his career after suffering from injury and inconsistent play that caused him to drop down the Seagulls pecking order.

According to Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler, “Evan had a challenging period over the past season and a half, and it has been one that was slowed down by niggling injury issues.”

Ferguson started once for West Ham under then-manager Graham Potter, but he only made eight appearances on loan during the second half of the previous season.

Ferguson met Roma fans and signed autographs before moving to the Serie A side, according to a photo he shared on social media.

Following a stellar 2022-23 campaign, which included nine goals and his senior international debut, the 20-year-old was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
