In a case similar to the one in which his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro, was found guilty of plotting a coup, Brazil’s prosecutor general has charged federal lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro with coercion.
The prosecutor general’s office stated in a statement on Monday that the younger Bolsonaro has “repeatedly sought to subordinate the interests of Brazil and the entire society to his own personal and family agenda.”

Eduardo Bolsonaro, who has resisted having his father put on trial in the United States this year, came to the country this year to ask President Trump for help in putting an end to the criminal prosecution of his father. He has credited the White House with pushing for tariffs to be imposed on the majority of Brazilian goods.
The lawmaker linked the charge against Jair Bolsonaro’s trial to new US sanctions placed on her by Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes’ wife. His son referred to Moraes’s lackeys as the “Moraes’s lackeys” of the prosecutor general’s office.
