Ravi Bopara, a former England international, has been appointed as the Pakistan Super League’s head coach.

The 39-year-old’s appointment comes after his first as a major T20 league assistant and player.

Owner Salman Iqbal said, “His deep commitment to the franchise is reflected in his journey with the Karachi Kings, both as a player and then as a member of our coaching staff.”

We are confident that his squad will be energized once more.

Bopara played 13 Tests, 120 one-day internationals and 38 T20s for England between 2007 and 2015.

He has played in a variety of domestic leagues, including Karachi, which he led in 2016, since his last international. In the T20 Blast this summer, he will represent Northamptonshire.

Bopara’s appointment immediately makes him one of the most well-known English coaches in franchise cricket, replacing former West Indies international Phil Simmons, who has been named Bangladesh coach.

There are no Englishmen in charge of the Indian Premier League, and former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff is the only Englishman to lead the men’s Hundred. The Melbourne Stars are led by former England coach Peter Moores in the Big Bash.

Due to personal commitments, former England and Yorkshire bowler Darren Gough announced on Friday that he would not be coaching for Lahore Qalandars this year.
