Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon split in 2014 after six years of marriage and have remained close for the sake of their twins, Monroe and Moroccan
Mariah Carey’s settlement with former husband Nick Cannon reveals how much the TV star pays the singer to help raise their twin kids. According to previous document, the pop icon requested that the father of her twins contributed an additional $5k-a-month to their trust fund, while she contributes nothing.
Back in 2014, when the couple disclosed their individual incomes, Mariah’s earnings were $6.3million, while Nick’s were $2.7million. However, Nick – who is now a father of 12 – has gone from strength to strength in his career.
An added clause when Mariah and Nick’s kids were young stipulated that Monroe and Moroccan, now 13, are forbidden from referring to Mariah and Nick’s future spouses as ‘mum’, ‘dad’, ‘mummy’, ‘daddy’, ‘father’, ‘mother’ or any similar term.
The Loverboy star and former America’s Got Talent host Nick tied the knot in the Bahamas in April 2008 after a six-week whirlwind romance. After welcoming the twins in May 2011, the pair renewed their wedding vows to celebrate their three-year wedding anniversary.
However, by April 2014, they confirmed their separation, but remained close for the sake of the children. While the twins live with Mariah, Nick does get to visit, with the agreement that Mariah will cover his travel and accommodation costs.
Mariah and Nick almost had a run in at this year’s BET Awards, too. The 55-year-old five-time Grammy winner arrived solo in a shimmering gold gown and took the stage to perform her latest single, Type Dangerous. She amazing her fans with her signature whistle notes and put on a dazzling display on stage.
Meanwhile, Cannon, 43, was also seen at the ceremony as part of the evening’s festivities. While the parents did not interact publicly, their presence at the same event sparked discussion among those on the sidelines.
Taking to social media, one user wrote: “Knowing that Nick Cannon and Bryan Tanaka were in the audience watching her is crazy.”
Another added: “Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are in the same building. I can’t believe she fell for that.”
Showing their close bond, Nick opened up to Page Six following the death of Mariah’s mum last year. He said: “She’s doing the best that she possibly can, considering the circumstances.” He also emphasised the importance of family support during such tough times: “But as a family, we just got to be there to support one another, show love.”
Nick went on to say that Mariah is enjoying an excellent period with the twins: “She’s really having a great time with the kids.”
Continuing to stress the importance of family unity, he said of his children’s role: “That is, you know, the most important thing in the world to her, so it’s outstanding to see them supporting their mom the way they do.”
