Following their play-off defeat against the Denver Broncos, the Buffalo Bills fired coach Sean McDermott.

McDermott, 51, was the Bills’ coach for nine seasons, but he was unable to win a Super Bowl despite having legendary quarterback Josh Allen and having won the AFC East five times.

Allen had a chance to win in overtime over the weekend, but the Broncos were unable to score a field goal with 33-30 after making his fourth turnover in Saturday’s Divisional Round game.

Owner Terry Pegula credited Sean with changing the organization’s mindset and making the Bills a perennial playoff team.

“But I think we need a new structure to give this organization the best chance to take our team to the next level.”

McDermott is the eighth head coach to step down as head of the NFL this month. The first NFL team to reach the Super Bowl after seven straight years of winning in the play-off round.

Next Sunday, the LA Rams travel to divisional rival Seattle for the NFC Championship game, while New England travels to Denver Broncos for the AFC equivalent.
