Following his red card in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Osasuna, Jude Bellingham was given a two-game suspension.
The Real Madrid midfielder was sent off in the 39th minute for swearing at referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero.
On Tuesday, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) condemned the “repulsive” abuse Montero has received since.
On Wednesday, the RFEF disciplinary committee decided Bellingham should be punished for “attitudes of contempt or lack of consideration toward referees.”
It means England international Bellingham, 21, will miss La Liga fixtures against Girona and Real Betis.
Referee Montero misinterpreted his language, the former Birmingham City midfielder claimed, adding that “there was no intention to insult him.”
Real Madrid confirmed to Reuters that it would file an appeal regarding the suspension.
Bellingham will be available for other competitions while undergoing a La Liga suspension, including Wednesday’s second leg of Real’s Champions League knockout phase play-off against Manchester City.
One week later, Real will have the opportunity to play Rayo Vallecano in Bellingham’s Copa del Rey semi-final first leg before the league’s champions face Real Sociedad on March 9.
Real, the defending champion, have lost all three of their league games.
