Fans need to be wary of one thing before watching The Traitors on BBC One tonight if they don’t want the outcome to be spoiled for them.
There’s not long to wait for The Traitors finale – but viewers have been warned to watch out for a common problem that can spoil the result. Millions will be tuning in to see whether Rachel and Stephen can take it all the way or the Faithful can root them out at 8:30pm tonight on BBC One.
However, if you’re streaming the show, you run the risk of not understanding the results sooner than your friends who watch TV in person.
This not only applies if you’re watching BBC iPlayer from a phone or tablet, but also Sky Glass and Sky Stream that also use internet instead of the humble aerial, cable or satellite dish.
When compared to regular television, streaming has a 45-second delay. Football fans are all too familiar with the situation because they are too soon to hear how goals are scored.
The lag has been reduced by Sky right now, but it is only available on its sports channels right now. Fans of the Traitors should change how they watch to prevent disappointment from friends pinging you about the outcome or having it appear on social media.
There is a little-known aerial port that you can profit from if you watch Sky Glass. An aerial must be plugged in, and the TV aerial button on the main screen should be there. There are other ways to reduce the risk of lag and spoilers if you can still use broadband-based streaming as your only option.
If others in your home are gaming or streaming your connection speed will suffer, says Uswitch broadb and expert Richard Dowden.
Gaming consoles such as Xbox or PlayStation are well-known data guzzlers – unplug any surplus gadgets to keep your stream as near to “live” as achievable. And avoid casting live broadcasts from your mobile to your telly as well.
Instead, watch directly through your Smart TV app; this adds layers of delay when footage is transferred from one device to another. Digital streams lag behind live streaming, he warned, even on the fastest broadband.
“This “spoiler lag” occurs because internet delivery requires additional processing steps that conventional aerial TV doesn’t. A cable TV connection might be the best choice if you can avoid spoilers completely because it has the shortest live-lag possible.
“Virgin Media is currently the only company in the UK that offers this.” You’ll typically need a broadband connection with at least 25 mbps download speeds to avoid buffering when watching HD or higher. Plug an Ethernet cable directly into your router for the smoothest stream for a connection that won’t betray you mid-episode.
Just six contestants remain heading into the series finale of The Traitors.
During Wednesday’s tense instalment, both Rachel and Stephen found themselves under increasing scrutiny after surviving another round of eliminations.
The pair has a signed a deal to keep one another safe until the showdown, but Rachel gave the final episode hints to Stephen that she might need to “protect their alliance” by possibly naming him.
Stephen confided: “This is getting pretty stressful now. Faraaz dropped a bit of a bombshell that the Traitor might be Rachel,”. He continued: “I think Rachel has an uphill battle to make it to that endgame. I just have this horrible feeling in my stomach. I’m just hoping she can do it,” reports Wales Online.
The Traitors: Uncloaked will be broadcast at 9 p.m. on BBC One tonight, with The Traitors: Uncloaked following at 9 p.m. Will Brydon’s Would I Lie To You will be playing at 8:30pm starting on January 30 in the slot.
At 9 p.m., Death in Paradise returns, introducing new faces to the detective team. The evening will then wrap up.
