BBC Look North regular, Keeley Donovan, has revealed she has been dealing with a secret health battle as she opens up on her TV absence and explained her new job role
BBC star Keeley Donovan, who is best known as the weather presenter on the BBC’s Look North, has revealed why she hasn’t been seen on screen for months. The TV star has opened up on her secret health battle online as she thanked fans who have ‘contacted’ her.
Keeley, 42, hasn’t been seen on TV since April and opened up about the reasons in a social media post. She wrote online: “A little update on me. I’ve been away from work over the last few months because I haven’t been well. Thanks to everyone who contacted me.”
While she didn’t identify the specific reason she was unwell to her followers, she did confirm that her role has changed and wouldn’t be returning to Look North, which she is ‘really sad’ about. She continued and said: “In other news my job is changing slightly. I’m really sad to say that I’m no longer going to be doing my usual Friday weather slot on Look North, it’s always been the highlight of my week.”

“In brighter news, I shall be presenting the weather every Tuesday and Wednesday evening for North West Tonight, and I’m excited to get to know this new patch. I’ll still be on here with all my usual weather updates.”
Keeley first started working in broadcasting when she was just 14 years old on a local cable channel, before she moved on to be a freelance reporter for the BBC.
She then started training in meteorology and began to host weather bulletins for most of the BBC’s Northern regions. The new position will see her cover the Greater Manchester and Merseyside regions.
The TV regular has also stepped in as a newsreader and reporter for BBC Look North in Leeds when they have needed her. She has embarked on a successful broadcasting career, and in 2014, she was appointed the Saturday morning host of BBC Radio Humberside. She later returned to Look North to continue her weather duties.
The TV star reportedly now lives in Leeds with her husband and daughter. She is married to fellow TV star BBC presenter Johnny I’Anson, with who she shares a 5-year-old daughter, Scout.
In 2023, she opened up about experiencing a miscarriage after she had some time away from TV. She took to Instagram to discuss her absence, explaining that it was due to “horrid morning sickness” and that she had a miscarriage.
She wrote in her recent post: “I returned to work last week but you might not have seen me around for a while, the truth is I’ve been off with horrid morning sickness. Unfortunately the day before our 12 week scan I started to show signs of a miscarriage. At the scan there was no heartbeat. A few days later I ended up back in hospital because of heavy blood loss,” she continued.
Keeley said it’s been a “sad and worrying time,” adding: “It’s awful to think that so many people go through this but I have found comfort in knowing that miscarriages aren’t uncommon.”
