Paul Merton, a panelist for Have I Got News For You, has shared some details about how it was to fall in love once more six months after his ex-wife Sarah Parkinson passed away from cancer.

Paul Merton is a celebrated comedy legend after his years of bringing slapstick charm to Have I Got News For You.

But behind the funnyman act, the comic has faced deeply painful periods, including the devastating loss of his second wife, Sarah Parkinson, in 2003.

Merton is now happily married to fellow comedian Suki Webster, and has spoken candidly about how love returned to his life sooner than he ever expected.

He continued, “I suppose this occurred six or seven months after Sarah’s death.” It’s not one of those choices you can make, in my opinion. You can observe what transpires.

You must not look because you must grieve. However, we were in India, drinking brandy, and a magician appeared in the dark. You only believe that this is a lot of fun. You don’t consider, “Oh, is this right or wrong?” It appeared to be natural. It sounded good.

When you fall in love, you fall in love, Suki, who plays alongside Paul in the Comedy Store Players, said.

The pair first became friends after both were fatally ill with food poisoning while touring in India. They struck up a conversation while watching a magician give a drink at a dimly lit bar while brandy and coke were being poured into their mouths.

Paul has since joked that between the two of them, there was “magic in the air,” despite the fact that the act wasn’t particularly good.

A partnership that has resulted in more than ten years of marriage and numerous nights on stage together has begun. Suki’s presence, in Paul’s opinion, provided the only glimpse into the dark side of the tunnel.

Prior to the couple’s wedding, his second wife Sarah Parkinson was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer, and she passed away shortly after the couple tied the knot. At the time, she was only 41.

Paul has previously recalled how, six days after her death, he attended a Comedy Store performance to find solace in the audience’s shared joy. He explained that it goes back to the relief and the release, which takes you somewhere else.

Comedy has always been a part of Merton’s life, both as a profession and as a means of stability in challenging circumstances. He was born Paul Martin, but he soon took the stage name Merton, and he first made a name for himself with Whose Line Is It Anyway? in 1988.

However, the show was postponed as his career was booming, and he experienced a mental breakdown that required him to spend six weeks in the Maudsley psychiatric hospital.

He has described how it felt to be someone who was dealing with very different issues from everyone else in the hospital, saying, “I was in a room for group therapy every morning. ” Despite his struggles, he is still able to approach that period of his life with a sense of humor. Someone was being forced to leave their council building, according to the report.

“Someone else claimed that his daughter had a strong drug fetish. They were experiencing all these terrible things. Someone had canceled a television series, which was what I thought. Because I already knew, “That’s awkward, I never said that during the session.” “It still spoke to me with a sense of proportion and humor.”

Thankfully, things changed for Merton, who was already a household name by 1990 and hasn’t stopped appearing on Have I Got News For You ever since.
