Scottish actor Iain Robertson has been accused of rape and abusive behaviour involving four women over a 16-year period, from January 2004 to April 2020. The soap star denies all charges against him.
He is best known for his role as Stevie O’Hara in the BBC soap River City. The 44-year-old is facing a total of eight charges and was excused from attending a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday, 9 July.
One of the most serious allegations involves the alleged rape of a woman on multiple occasions between 2018 and 2019. In addition to the rape charge, Robertson is accused of engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour, including psychological manipulation.
According to prosecutors, his alleged conduct included kicking household objects, grabbing the woman by the neck, persistently messaging and calling her, sending her unwanted gifts, and attempting to intimidate her into not contacting police.

Robertson faces additional serious allegations beyond those already known. According to the indictment, he is accused of breach of the peace and assault against one woman, involving shouting, swearing, and making offensive remarks. It is also alleged that he poured wine over her during an incident.
Further charges include two assaults and threatening behaviour towards another woman over three years. Prosecutors say he attempted to control her movements, isolate her from loved ones, and persistently contacted her, even sending unwanted gifts to her workplace.
Physical violence is alleged, including lunging at her, causing a fall, and dragging her by the hair.

Defence lawyer Gary Allan KC confirmed a special defence of consent has been submitted for one charge. He stated, “A joint minute of agreed evidence has been settled between parties and Mr Robertson pleads not guilty.”
Both sides agreed to set the trial for June 2026 at Glasgow’s High Court, with the hearing expected to last six days.
Released on bail, Robertson’s acting career includes roles in River City since 2017, Small Faces, Grange Hill, Rab C Nesbitt, and Sea of Souls.
