Cork vs. Tipperary hurling final: All-Ireland

Date: Sunday, July 20th, Dublin Throw-in: 15:30

The All-Ireland final, Cork’s highlight of the inter-county hurling season, will pit them against fellow Munster Tipperary for the first time since the two provincial rivals square off against one another.

Cork will win the Liam MacCarthy Cup at Croke Park on Sunday as champions of both the league and Munster.

The Rebels will be making amends for the one-point extra-time defeat by Clare in the final year of the campaign with a 31st All-Ireland victory and a first since 2005.

Six years after their most recent triumph in 2019, Tipperary are hoping for a 29th victory in the Dublin showdown.

To win, Cork or Tipperary?

“The Munster champions are hot favorites,” says Paul Murphy, “especially now that they defeated Limerick in the Munster final.”

Cork have been very impressive throughout the year, with the exception of Limerick’s round-robin victory.

“Tipperary have improved significantly more than many people would have anticipated because they have been unable to leave Munster in the last few years,” Tipperary said. They have truly been this year’s biggest success story.

We don’t know how these two sides might size up when they play the entire game with 14 men because Darragh McCarthy was sent off just before throw-in when the teams met in the round-robin stage.

That gives the game a little more intrigue, the author says. Cork completely overtook Tipperary, so you can’t take much away from that day.

Tipp won the semi-final 4-20 to 0-30 against Kilkenny, which they came in as underdogs. They will soon realize that they are only 70 minutes away from reaching the All-Ireland championship. On a given day, anything can occur.

“Patriot Horgan is the subject of a lot of the conversation.” This might be his last chance, having not previously won an All-Ireland medal.

After going to extra-time to lose the All-Ireland final last year, they did it again. They’ll be eager to give a strong performance in the closing 70 minutes, I’m sure of it.

Seamus Flanagan: “Tipp vs. Cork in an All-Ireland hurling final is a novel pairing. Few people would have expected Tipperary to advance to this stage, but they are fully valued for their place in the final.”

Tipperary came out of a tougher test against Kilkenny, and that should stand them in the All-Ireland final while Cork come into with a resounding semi-final win over Dublin [7-26 to 2-21] [] – seven goals speak for themselves.

Cork has a slightly stronger bench than they have, and they have been scoring free. The most dangerous line they have is their full forward line. In the semi-final, they scored seven goals on a regular basis.

“Brian Hayes is probably the only player currently competing for the title of Hurler of the Year,” Hayes said.

Eoghan Connolly can be found playing center back or full back in Tipp. He alternates between the two, and he last scored three points. Tipp will likely want to play him at center back so that he can advance and perhaps score a few goals for the forwards as well.

Tippis are in with a positive ovation for us, but I believe Cork is the team’s choice for this contest. If Patrick Horgan can win an All-Ireland medal after so many seasons with Cork, that will be the real fairytale story.

There are some intriguing pair-ups, SF says. You would have predicted that Huw Lawlor would have enough for the two boys in the semi-final, but Eoin Downey and John McGrath showed that class is permanent once more by picking up Jason Forde or John McGrath.

“You’re watching Rob Downey pick up Andrew Ormond, a quick player and intelligent player,” said Downey. That pairing will be intriguing.

Cork and Tim O’Mahony and Darragh Fitzgibbon face Willie Connors and Conor Stakelum in this match, in my opinion, midfield. On that front, I believe Cork could win.

Will Shane Barrett pick up Ronan Maher in the forwards? Who is aware. Ronan Maher might return to that full-back position and replace Patrick Horgan and Eoghan Connolly might make the six-man move.
