In the 1990s, Phillippa Forrester was a well-known face on British television, hosting programs like Tomorrow’s World and The Heaven and Earth Show. And she is about to make a comeback by doing something slightly different.
In the 1990s, Philippa Forrester, a well-known character on British television, switched from the studio lights to environmental activism. The 57-year-old former children’s BBC presenter is best known for her roles in Barking Mad, The Heaven and Earth Show, and Tomorrow’s World.
However, it was her captivating stint on Robot Wars that truly won over viewers’ hearts. Philippa was at the center of the action throughout the first three seasons, the third and sixth seasons, interviewing contestants, and showcasing the engineering marvels of the battle robots.
Philippa resigned from her presenting position after the show moved to Channel 5.

She wed Charlie Hamilton James, a producer and photographer of wildlife, in 2004. Together, they founded the production company Halcyon Media, a leader in wildlife documentaries.
Halcyon River Diaries, which aired on BBC One in May 2010, was one of their productions. After raising three children, Charlie’s family relocated to Wyoming, USA to support his work with National Geographic. What was meant to be a temporary stay turned into a six-year stay, during which former UK TV star Philippa embraced life in the American wilderness.
Fred, the family’s eldest child, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016, in a difficult time for the family. Philippa told The Telegraph, “His entire body became rigid. His head was slammed against the wall, and his eyes went into the back of his head. My husband ran to get help after I tried to hold him, but I was unable to hold him. We were immediately taken to an emergency room.
Thankfully, Fred recovered completely from surgery and ongoing scans. However, Philippa and James separated in the middle of the 2020s, leading to her resuming her duties with their three children. As she rebuilt her career while raising her children, Philippa described this time as particularly challenging.
She celebrated women who fight for environmental causes with Wild Woman: Empowering Stories from Women Who Work in Nature last year and released a book called Wild Woman: Empowering Stories from Women Who Work in Nature. Her new podcast Conscious was released along with other initiatives to make a positive impact on the planet.
In a statement on the program’s website, she stated, “I wanted to make this podcast so that we could chat to the unsung heroes, regular people with one thing in common: making change happen and inspiring us in the process.
For the Podcast on Purpose series, she delved into powerful crowdfunding stories and their societal contributions. She also collaborated with Crowdfunder UK. Her frequent social media posts that feature electric vehicles, sustainability initiatives, and a glimpse into her personal opinions demonstrate her commitment to protecting the environment.
These posts attract a flood of supportive comments from her followers. After a recent Instagram post, users were swift to praise her, with one commenting: “A fabulous lady, who is doing great things”. Another fan reminisced: “Loved you on Robot Wars!”.
