Nina Warhurst has welcomed viewers on BBC Breakfast for almost ten years, but it was disappointing to learn that the 44-year-old had decided to leave the show’s flagship. Steph McGovern became the show’s main business presenter in 2020 after beginning to produce reports for it in 2018. She would later become the host of Steph McGovern’s own, now-retired, Channel 4 show.

Nina has frequently taken the helm of BBC Breakfast and hosted the program alongside Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, among other notables.

However, she confirmed earlier this week that she would be joining BBC News at One in addition to her Twitter followers. We’ve looked back on Nina’s career and the heartache she’s endured while she’s on the red sofa ahead of her final day…

In the 1990s, Nina began acting in programs like Casualty and the ITV series Butterly Collectors.

The actress then transitioned to Channel M before starting to work for Russia Today, a Moscow-based station. She then became a BBC presenter until 2010 and has remained there ever since.

Nina began her career at the Beeb by hosting regional news programs like North West Tonight and Sunday Politics in the North West. Additionally, Nina has covered other news. She also covered the 2016 World Cup with BBC Sport and served as a political editor for BBC North West in 2016.

Four years later, she wrote on social media that she was “so excited to formally join the BBC Breakfast team because I have always loved it both as a viewer and a journalist.”

However, Nina was losing her job as her career was gaining momentum.

The mother-of-three experienced heartache in 2023 when she lost three of her family members in a few months.

Nina's last day at BBC Breakfast will be soon
Nina’s final day on BBC Breakfast is slated for soon (BBC).

She shared a photo from the emotional day and told her followers that she had “three goodbyes” to people she “loved very much.

On a gorgeous sunny day in Bath, guests were prohibited from wearing black, according to Nina, who claimed the service, which was dubbed a “memorial celebration” took place.

“With my Mum and sisters at a memorial celebration yesterday (no black please)” wrote the journalist. In the last few months, we’ve said goodbye to people we’ve loved a lot.

And they have always loved us because they guided us, laughed at us, and provided security for us. Although it’s been agonizing, I was moved by the special elders of your extended village’s support, regardless of what they are.

Nina’s father, Chris, was diagnosed with dementia last year, and she had a difficult time going through it. She’s previously expressed her regret for being irritated by his memory loss.

Nina acknowledged that she occasionally had to tell him white lies when he didn’t even notice there was a problem after working on a BBC dementia piece with him.

Ted Fraser, Nina’s partner, and they were married in a beautiful ceremony in New York in 2014, have supported her throughout difficult times. They have two sons, Digby and Michael, and a daughter, Nancy, who was born in 2023.

Nina addressed the birth of her daughter on social media, saying, “It’s been *hard* tho! a more difficult pregnancy I’d had to wait longer to recover from my injuries, perhaps due to my older age, but also because I’d forgotten.

She also shared her concerns about the labor going wrong and how she dealt with a variety of postpartum issues.

The actress regularly updates her social media followers on her extended family and defends her decision to return to BBC Breakfast at the age of six.
