Bangladesh defeat Sri Lanka in Super Fours thriller at Asia Cup

In Bangladesh’s opening Super Four match against Sri Lanka, Saif Hassan and Towhid Hridoy scored four wickets in the opening encounter of the Asia Cup.

After a dramatic final over on Saturday, Bangladesh won with a ball with a run out after Hassan scored 61 runs off 45 balls with two fours and four sixes, and Hridoy hit 58 off 37 with two sixes.

Jaker Ali hit Dasun Shanaka for a first-ball four before being bowled after being required to score five runs on the final six balls. Mahedi Hasan was then returned for a two-ball duck by Shanaka.

Nasum Ahmed and Shamim Hossain put a strong end to Sri Lanka’s unbeaten run on the final delivery, 14 not out of 12.

Bangladesh’s third-highest successful chase in the Twenty20s came to an end with a score of 169-6.

Sri Lanka was able to defeat them to go 168-7 with Shanaka’s 64 not out of 37 balls earlier.

After the contentious no-handshakes group game, India and Pakistan square off in their subsequent Super Four match on Sunday.

After Mahedi Hasan struck twice, Sri Lanka was reduced to 65-3 in 9.1 overs in spite of a quick opening stand between Pathum Nissanka (22) and Kusal Mendis (34).

Then, with two fours and five sixes, Shanaka took control and scored 50 from 30 balls. With Charith Asalanka for the fifth wicket, he combined for 57 runs with six sixes and totaled 57.

Asalanka was dropped in the 19th over and then sprinted off with his 21 off 12 balls. Shanaka, who was also dropped, endured the most success.

The run out and Mustafizur Rahman’s two wickets loss vital momentum in the over.

Tanzid Hasan was bowled for a two-ball duck, but his partner, who counterattacked Sri Lanka, was unharmed. Litton Das, a skipper of Bangladesh, scored 59 runs off 34 balls for the second wicket.

Saif Hassan led with 59 points in the powerplay, with Bangladesh leading. He had 36 balls and reached 50.

As Bangladesh’s chase grew more potent, Hassan and Hridoy combined for 54.

With 50 of 31 balls, Hridoy led the chase to the finish line. Despite the final over drama, Shamin Hossain helped him come to an end in the 19th over when Dushmantha Chameera had him trapped in.
