Due to injury, Northern Ireland’s defender Daniel Ballard will miss their World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Germany starting next month.
The 25-year-old was forced to leave on Saturday during Sunderland’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor.
Regis Le Bris, the Black Cats’ manager, stated following the Black Cats’ Carabao Cup defeat against Huddersfield on Tuesday that while the issue was not “long-term,” Ballard does experience some side effects.
He told the club’s website, “We anticipate him to be out for two to three weeks because it’s not too serious.”
Three days after Northern Ireland travels to Luxembourg on September 4, Germany will face them in Cologne.
