An inquest has determined that former Premier League player George Baldock died in a collision in his Greek swimming pool.
On October 9, 2024, the 31-year-old was discovered dead at his home in Glyfada, southern Athens.
His body was unresponsive, despite a post-mortem examination finding no alcohol or drugs.
Senior coroner Tom Osborne came to the conclusion that Baldock’s death was an accident after his drowning at the inquest into his death at Milton Keynes Coroner’s Court on Wednesday.
After seven years with Sheffield United, the Greece-born international left for the Panathinaikos in May 2024.
He had a very large heart, according to a post-mortem examination, which would have made him “vulnerable to heart arrhythmias.”
No evidence of criminal activity was found in an investigation by Greek police, who tried to revive the football player without success.
Three days prior to his passing, Baldock had participated in Panathinaikos’ 0-0 draw against Olympiacos.
Baldock’s family said: “George, you were the most special father, fiance, son, brother, uncle, friend, team-mate, and person.”
“You had the opportunity to meet me and those who adored you from the stands,” you exuded such awe and love.
