Australian Open: Djokovic targets Sincaraz to end wait for record 25th slam

Novak Djokovic can still crack a joke when discussing the Carlos Alcaraz-Jannik Sinner rivalry that for two years has prevented him from becoming the most decorated tennis player ever.

“I lost three out of four Slams against either Sinner or Alcaraz in 2025,” he said in reference to the rivalry dubbed “Sincaraz” as he spoke on Saturday, on the eve of the Australian Open.

“We don’t need to praise them too much,” he added, smiling. “They have been praised enough! We know how good they are, and they absolutely deserve to be where they are. They are the dominant forces of the men’s tennis at the moment.”

Djokovic is starting a third season in pursuit of a 25th Grand Slam singles title, and has refined his approach for the Australian Open.

He withdrew from his only scheduled tuneup tournament, knowing he is lacking “a little bit of juice in my legs” to compete with two young stars at the end of the majors and that he has to stay as pain-free as possible.

Djokovic worked out how to beat Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the established rivals, before he turned it into the Big Three and then surpassed them both.

A winner of 24 major championships – a record for the Open era and tied with Margaret Court for the most in the history of tennis – the 38-year-old Djokovic is doing everything to keep himself “in the mix”.

Djokovic last won a major title at the 2023 US Open. Sinner and Alcaraz have split the eight since then. Sinner has won the last two Australian titles, and Alcaraz is in Australia, determined to add the title at Melbourne Park to complete a career Grand Slam.

Despite being hampered by injuries, Djokovic reached the semifinals at all four majors last year. A torn hamstring forced him to quit his Australian Open semifinal after ousting Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.

By reminding himself that “24 is also not a bad number,” Djokovic said he is taking the “now-or-never type of mentality” out of his every appearance at a major, because it is not allowing him to excel at his best.

“Sinner and Alcaraz are playing on a different level right now from everybody else. That’s a fact,” Djokovic said, “but that doesn’t mean that nobody else has a chance.

“So I like my chances always, in any tournament, particularly here.”

The 10-time Australian Open champion starts Monday in a night match on Rod Laver Arena against No 71-ranked Pedro Martinez of Spain. Seeded fourth, he is in the same half of the draw as top-ranked Alcaraz. That means they can only meet in the semifinals here.

Djokovic has not played an official tournament since November.

“Obviously took more time to rebuild my body, because I understand that in the last couple of years, that’s what changed the most for me – takes more time to rebuild, and it also takes more time to reset or recover,” he said. “I had a little setback that prevented me to compete at Adelaide tournament … but it’s been going on very well so far here.”

He said there’s “something here and there” every day in terms of aches and pains, “but generally I feel good and look forward to competing.”

Djokovic cut ties earlier this month with the Professional Tennis Players Association, a group he co-founded, saying “my values and approach are no longer aligned with the current direction of the organisation.”

Djokovic and Canadian player Vasek Pospisil launched the PTPA in 2020, aiming to offer representation for players who are independent contractors in a largely individual sport.

“It was a tough call for me to exit the PTPA, but I had to do that, because I felt like my name was … overused,” he said.

“I felt like people, whenever they think about PTPA, they think it’s my organisation, which is a wrong idea from the very beginning.”

He said he is still supporting the concept.

“I am still wishing them all the best, because I think that there is room and there is a need for a 100% players-only representation organisation existing in our ecosystem,” he added.

BBC Traitors fans convinced they know who wins as star accidentally drops huge hint

The Traitors contestant revealed what they would do with the prize money if they won the show – and might have accidentally provided a major spoiler about the final

Traitors fans are convinced they have pinpointed who wins the series – after last night’s episode saw the contestants reveal what they’d do with the prize fund.

One Faithful might have unwittingly dropped a major hint that he is set to be crowned Traitors winner 2025. Personal trainer Jack, 29, revealed on Friday’s episode (January 16) what he would do with the prize money if he won – and it turns out he has already ticked the task off his wish list.

Faithful Jack told his fellow contestants during the traditional Traitors dinner party that if he won, he would put a deposit down on a new house and propose to his long-term girlfriend. “My girlfriend and I, as most people in the UK do, struggle to get on the property ladder so it would be nice to kind of contribute towards the deposit,” he shared, adding “I want to be putting a ring on it in a few months’ time.”

And in his pre-show BBC interview, he said: “I’d love if we could get our first property somewhere where I could have a purpose-built gym studio in the back of the garden and have that all kitted out and do my training sessions there at our new home.

“That would just be the dream. I also have secret plans, I’m planning to propose to my partner, so it’d be nice to spend a bit of money on that, maybe taking her out somewhere nice to celebrate.”

The scenes were filmed earlier in around June last summer, at Ardross Castle in Scotland, and it turns out that social media now holds a major clue that he followed through with his plans, potentially with the help of some Traitors prize money.

Social media posts on the jewellery brand Durham Rose – posted in August 2025 – reveal he did indeed pop the question this summer. Alongside a carousel of sunny snaps of Jack and his now fiancée, the caption read: “Dreamy Santorini, sun-kissed yacht, and a YESS to this beautifully bespoke ring!!”.

Now fans have take to Jack’s social media to question if he won the series, as one wrote: “My little girl who is 9 and watching says… if she says yes does that mean you’ve won?! Annnnndddd congratulations xxxx”. Another added: “OK but please tell me you did pop the question before this aired because omg what a way to find out otherwise”.

Some fans have also been commenting on Jack playing a minor role in the series so – which could tie-in with Richard Osman’s theory about producers’ clever edits hinting at major players.

After years spent working behind the cameras on various primetime shows, the House of Games host revealed a trick editors use to build suspense and surprise around certain characters, in this case the various Traitors and Faithfuls.

“So, oftentimes you will go light on someone in the edit because you know that they’re a big player later on,” he said recently on his The Rest is Entertainment podcast.

Writing on Reddit, one fan suggested Richard’s theory could be true, stating “He’s done nothing and barely been featured… is he going to play a big role at the end?”.

Another was less convinced though, writing: “He might become more important in the final episodes of the show (especially since there’s so few of them now) but at this point I’m not sure if this edit is one you would give to an eventual winner.”

Helen Flanagan’s ‘missing millions’ as star ‘asked to leave home by ex boyfriend’

As Helen Flanagan allegedly enters yet another war with ex-partner Scott Sinclair over her family home, the Mirror takes a look at her financial woes, which have seen her go from being a reported millionaire to struggling to pay taxi fare

With their fraught relationship taking yet another turn, Helen Flanagan is allegedly being asked to leave her home by her ex, Scott Sinclair. And this is far from the only issue she’s faced since their acrimonious split.

Having previously had to say goodbye to their eight-bed mansion, Helen, who parted ways with the ex-Man City midfielder in 2022, is reportedly now being asked to leave the six-bed house she shares with their three young children, Matilda, ten, Delilah, seven, and son Charlie, four.

It’s understood that the property, situated in Belmont, near Bolton, is in Scott’s name, and he’s now eager for her to downsize and live in a smaller four-bed property, which he has even offered to buy for her. But it doesn’t appear the 35-year-old Coronation Street legend will go quietly, not wanting to disrupt her kids’ education, or give up the handy location close to her parents.

A source told The Sun: “Scott pays for the house and all the bills, and he’s decided a six-bedroom place is way too big for Helen on her own with the kids. Helen doesn’t want to move and is digging her heels in. She loves the place, the kids are settled at the local school, and her mum and dad live around the corner.” They added:”Scott wants to buy Helen a four-bedroom home. He’s even offered to put it in her name, but wants to stop the maintenance payments.”The animosity between them was made evident over the festive period, when Helen lashed out at her former partner for allegedly choosing to attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix over their son’s Nativity play. Taking to social media, Helen raged: “You really are a piece of sh*t. How dare you not turn up to Charlie’s nativity.”

Helen, who has reportedly added value to the property, has faced a number of difficulties in recent years, most notably with her financial situation. At the height of her career, Helen previously enjoyed a lifestyle many could only dream of, jetting off on lavish holidays, living in luxury homes and treating herself to designer splurges but this comfortable lifestyle was not to last. her money woes came to light in January 2025, following a driving ban that left her in apparent dire straits. The soap star was handed a six-month ban when cameras clocked her Audi speeding twice in June 2024, but in a desperate plea to the magistrate, Helen revealed this would cause her “exceptional hardship”.

Revealing that she would struggle to afford the taxis she’d need to use for her children, the mother-of-three shared: “I think there might be a perception maybe that I would easily be able to afford a driver, but that’s quite far from the case. I’ve got enough money in my account to pay off my tax and my VAT, and basically that’s about it.”

Explaining that it would be expensive to transport her son to nursery in an Uber, Helen said: “Nursery is really important for my little boy. I’m a single mum, so it gives me a bit of a break. It’s a bit of a drive to get there. The only way I would be able to get him to nursery is by Uber. That would be very expensive. I’m really struggling at the moment financially.”

She previously vented about her predicament on Instagram. In a video, Helen told followers how the ban had left her feeling helpless, especially when it came to running a household alone. “I’ve not had a car for ages and it’s been really awful,” she said. “We are out of loo roll now – I can’t pop out to the shops. My friend has to bring me loo roll.”

“Losing her driving licence when she’s got three kids to look after is a nightmare,” a source previously told the Mirror. “Helen really just wants to get back into acting and be financially independent and stable, for herself as well as the kids. Even though she does well with brand deals, [an acting job] would make a massive difference in making her more independent.”

Then, in April 2025, Helen candidly admitted she’d been forced to sell the eight-bedroom family home as she could no longer afford the upkeep. She told the Declutter Hub podcast: “It actually makes me sad that I’m going to be leaving soon because I actually put so much effort into it. When we moved, I put a lot of my savings into doing the house up and making it look really beautiful. But it’s a big house. It’s an eight-bedroom house, which is obviously really hard to keep on top of.”

It’s a far different reality than one might expect from someone who once played one of Corrie’s best-known characters. After being cast as Rosie Webster in 2000, Helen, who’d previously appeared in ads for Fairy Liquid and Daz, went on to partake in some of the ITV show’s juiciest storylines, including her affair and subsequent kidnap by serial killer teacher John Stape.

While her earnings started off at an estimated £400 per episode, according to Mail Online, by 2017, her salary was estimated to be around the £120,000 a year mark. And this, of course, wasn’t her only source of income. A TV personality in hot demand, Helen was reportedly paid an extraordinary £150,000 per week to appear in the 2012 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. A regular face on telly beyond the cobbles, Helen appeared on everything from Celebrity Juice to Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, and it seemed to fans that money woes were the furthest thing from her mind.

This well-heeled image was solidified further by Helen’s ‘WAG’ status, with former partner Scott having been a high earner throughout their 13-year relationship. The former Swansea City player was previously reported to be on an enviable £55,000 per week during their time together, affording the family a level of luxury glimpsed through glossy magazine shoots. But sadly, it was not to last.

Despite her troubles, it’s clear Helen is a sought-after star enjoying a sizeable presence on Instagram, where she regularly showcases steamy shoots from her endorsement of lingerie brand Ann Summers. Over Christmas, Helen also earned a reported £85,000 salary for playing the evil queen in a pantomime of Snow White, The Sun reports, which will likely prove to be a welcome boost to her bank account.

Going forward, Helen is said to be keen on leaving Scott firmly in the past and is ready to find love again. A source previously told the Mirror: “Helen is definitely ready for love. She loves being with someone and wants to meet a new partner that she can really trust and depend on. She likes feeling like part of a team with someone, and she’s determined that whoever she ends up with will be a guy who adores her three kids too, because they are her top priority.”

The Mirror has reached out to Scott Sinclair’s representatives for comment.

Soap stars’ real-life feuds after Emmerdale legend cuts off her own daughter

Emmerdale star, Sammy Winward, stopped speaking to her daughter, Mia, when she revealed she had joined OnlyFans in scenes, which could be straight out of a soap script

We’re all used to things kicking off in soap land, but off-screen things can be just as dramatic.

After the news of Emmerdale star Sammy Winward’s daughter, Mia, announcing her pregnancy – which her estranged mum doesn’t know about following the fallout over Mia joining OnlyFans – a whole host of household names’ real-life feuds could be straight out of a soap script.

From Ryan Thomas’ bitter break-up with fellow Coronation Street star, Tina O’Brien, to Emmerdale’s Asan N’jie threatening to stab Hollyoaks veteran, Jamie Lomas at the 2019 TV Choice Awards, there are more famous faces feuding in real life than you would expect. So, as we wait to see if Sammy will patch things up with model, Mia, here’s a look at some of the bitterest soap star bust-ups off-screen, kicking off with the Katie Sugden legend and her mini-me…

Emmerdale star, Sammy Winward and daughter, Mia

Emmerdale’s Sammy Winward is said to have been left devastated over the sad feud with her daughter. The soap star shares Mia with her ex, David Dunn and used to regularly share snaps of her mini-me, now 20, on social media, gushing that the then teenager was her “best friend”. However, when Mia, who has announced she is expecting her first child – but hasn’t told her mum, revealed she was stripping off for OnlyFans, Sammy cut all ties.

Now, Mia says she has quit the X-rated sharing site after finding out she was pregnant, admitting that she is yet to tell her mum her news. However, she told The Sun the pair have “got a lot to work on”, revealing: “There’s a lot to forgive and that process hasn’t even started yet”.

Coronation Street’s Ryan Thomas and Tina O’Brien

Despite falling in love on set and welcoming their actress daughter, Scarlett, into the world into 2009, Ryan and had one of the fiercest feuds in soap history.

Tensions between the Coronation Street exes have been bubbling over for years and tensions reached boiling point in 2022 when Tina was accused of smashing up Ryan’s car with a baseball bat after a furious row.

The cause of the fiery feud has remained a mystery, but it’s since been claimed that Tina was angry with Ryan for encouraging their daughter to pursue a career in showbiz while Tina wanted her to have more of a ‘normal life’.

EastEnders’ Danielle Harold and Max Bowden

Lola Pearce, star, Danielle, confused fans when she unfollowed Jamie Borthwick, who played her on-screen husband on EastEnders, on social media.

However, the reason the pair fell out was reportedly because of Danielle feuding with former co-star, Max Bowden. A source told the Daily Mail that the pair had been in a relationship, which hadn’t ended well, claiming: “Danielle and Max dated for a number of years. Of course, it was known among the EastEnders cast and everyone thought they were sweet together.

“Their relationship hasn’t ended on the best terms, and they have even unfollowed each other on Instagram. There are a lot of emotions after they were friends, colleagues, and romantically involved for such a long time.”

Hollyoaks’ Jamie Lomas and Emmerdale’s Asan N’jie

Things got very nasty between Jamie and Asan at the TV Choice Awards in 2019, which saw the former Emmerdale actor threatening to stab the Warren Fox star.

It was later revealed that the fracas was over a financial disagreement between Jamie and one of Asan’s friends and co-stars. Asan was subsequently sacked from his role of Ellis Chapman shortly after, and apologised in a statement.

He said: “I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected, especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards. I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.”

Corrie’s Kym Marsh and Hollyoaks’ Steph Waring

In 2014, Hollyoaks veteran, Steph, slammed Corrie’s Kym for dating her ex, Dan Hopper, just six weeks after their five-year relationship ended.

Steph, who shares daughter, Lexi-Grace, with Dan, lashed out at the Hear-Say star, telling The Sun: “She’s carried on with him knowing what it’s done to me. It is killing me.

“I considered her a friend who I’ve known for years. I had no idea that she would ever do anything like this… There is an unwritten rule that if you are friends with somebody you don’t go near their ex partners.”

Kym – who played Michelle Connor in Corrie from 2006 to 2019 – ignored the claims, saying she was disappointed in Steph for not speaking to her face-to-face.

Roxanne Pallett and most of the cast of Emmerdale

Roxanne Pallett enraged her Emmerdale co-stars and Celebrity Big Brother viewers when she accused Corrie’s Ryan Thomas of punching her on the reality show.

A visibly shaken Ryan got a warning before it was revealed that Roxanne had been lying, leading to Ryan winning the show.

Following the fracas, 22 of Roxanne’s former Emmerdale co-stars complained about her on Twitter. Nick Miles, who played Jimmy King, wrote: “Anybody who has worked with this woman knows she’s toxic. CBB must have known it too.”

Meanwhile, Katie Sugden star, Sammy, added: “It’s been a long time coming.”

Senegal Aim To Deny Hosts Morocco In Cup Of Nations Final

Morocco and Senegal square off in a heavyweight Africa Cup of Nations final showdown on Sunday, with the host nation hoping a divided public will inspire them to win their first continental title in a generation.

Morocco, the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals in 2022, and Walid Regragui’s team, were the favorites to win the competition.

Since leaving the last AFCON in Ivory Coast in the last 16 to South Africa, they haven’t lost in two years, and Achraf Hakimi, the current African footballer of the year, is their captain.

All of that implies that Morocco has been under enormous pressure to deliver since the start of this tournament, which has been the first held in Morocco since 1988 and the first AFCON to begin and end in one year.

Morocco have won over their demanding fans as the tournament has progressed, winning all of their matches at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where they were booed by their own supporters during the group stage.

Nearly 70 000 Moroccan fans will throng the stadium in anticipation of their team winning the trophy following their dominating victory over Cameroon in the quarter-finals and nerve-wracking victories over Nigeria in the semi-final on Wednesday.

We “mean” it deserves to compete in the final. Regragui, who has received frequent criticism from the expectant public, said, “We have played top teams like Mali, Cameroon, and Nigeria, and now we will be facing one of the best teams.”

“Eventually, people will come to terms with Morocco’s significant football country.” However, we must win titles in order to advance to the next step, so Sunday’s game is crucial in our history.

Regragui is mindful of the nation’s lackluster performance in the tournament, where they only won once in 1976 in Ethiopia.

The Moroccan team reached the final after losing to Tunisia in 2004 as the country’s top team. He wants to improve this time.

By the time the World Cup begins in June, he is likely to be in charge if he doesn’t.

Regragui remarked, “Even if we had been knocked out in the first round, that would not have prevented me from believing in myself and declaring that I am a good coach.”

“It is impossible for me to forget what I did in the past.” I’m not expecting anything from anyone. I don’t make up my mind that I am the best. Morocco’s participation in the final is what is most crucial.

Farewell to Mane from AFCON

Senegal, who are Africa’s second-best team in the rankings and have reached the third final in four AFCON games, could not have asked for a tougher opponent than the hosts.

The Lions of Teranga won the title for the first time in Yaounde in 2022 when they defeated Egypt on penalties in Cairo in Cairo in 2019.

After being defeated by Ivory Coast in the final 16 of 2024, they regained their complacency and won the tournament’s final with a Sadio Mane strike that beat Egypt in the final four.

Mane, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, skipper Kalidou Koulibaly, and midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye are all between the ages of 33 and 36, making it an ageing and vastly experienced Senegalese side.

Mane, a former Liverpool player, declared that this would be his final Cup of Nations game following the Egypt game.

“I am a soldier of the nation, and I give it my all,” Mane said.

“But for me, that’s not the most crucial thing. Bringing this cup to Dakar is crucial, right?

Senegal will lose to Senegal in the final between two outstanding defenses because of Koulibaly’s suspension. At the tournament, they have each allowed three goals.
