Afghanistan, Pakistan agree to immediate ceasefire after talks in Doha

Following a week of ferocious and deadly clashes along their disputed border, Qatar and Turkiye reached an agreement to an immediate ceasefire.

Afghanistan and Pakistan have ratified the ceasefire, according to Qatar’s ministry of foreign affairs, and mechanisms have been set up to ensure lasting peace and stability between the two nations.

According to Doha, the two nations agreed to hold follow-up meetings in the coming days “to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire and verify its implementation in a reliable and sustainable manner.”

In the worst kind of conflict between the two South Asian neighbors since the Taliban seized control of Kabul in 2021, both sides announced earlier that they were holding peace talks in Doha on Saturday as they sought a solution.

According to a spokesman for the Afghan government, Zabihullah Mujahid, “as promised, negotiations with the Pakistani side will take place today in Doha,” adding that Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob, the country’s defense minister, had arrived in the capital.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the country’s defense minister, had discussions with Afghan Taliban leaders, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Office stated that the talks will concentrate on taking immediate steps to stop Pakistan’s cross-border terrorism emanating from Afghanistan and restore stability along the Afghan-Pak border.

After Islamabad demanded that Kabul rein in rebels who had increased cross-border attacks in Pakistan, Islamabad claimed that the fighters were operating from safe havens in Afghanistan, the one-time allies and Pakistani air strikes along their disputed 2, 600km (1, 600-mile) frontier, which were sparked by Islamabad’s demand that Kabul halt the fighters.

The Taliban accuses the Pakistani military of spreading false information about Afghanistan and sheltering ISIL (ISIS)-linked fighters, who have harmed the country’s stability and sovereignty, and denies providing shelter to armed groups fighting against Pakistan.

Kabul’s accusations have been refuted by Islamabad. In an effort to overthrow the government and replace it with a strict brand of Islamic governance, Pakistan has accused Kabul of allowing armed groups to live inside Afghanistan and waged years of war against it.

Security personnel reported that seven Pakistani soldiers were killed and 13 were hurt in a suicide attack on Friday near the border.

Hamas returns bodies of two more captives, says Israel violating ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced that Hamas would turn over the remains of two more Israeli captives who had passed away in Gaza, as the Palestinian group claimed that Israel is still violating the ceasefire and disobeying its obligations to peace mediators.

The Israeli government’s office stated in a post on the X social media platform early on Sunday that “Israel has received, via the Red Cross, the bodies of two hostages” and that they had returned to Israeli security forces in Gaza.

No names have been made public about the return of the remains, despite the prime minister’s office’s statement that the families of the Israeli prisoners have received updates on the situation.

The Israeli National Center of Forensic Medicine is where the two bodies are currently being transferred, according to the office, and “formal notification will be sent to the families once the identification process is complete.”

The prime minister’s office added that “the effort to return our hostages is ongoing and won’t end until the last hostage is returned.”

In response to the handover, Hamas has now fulfilled one of the 28 captives’ demands set by Israel in the two-year ceasefire agreement, which was signed late on Saturday.

Within 72 hours of the signing of the agreement, Hamas was supposed to release all of the Israeli prisoners, including the living and the dead. Israel was ordered to release some 2, 000 prisoners and 360 bodies of deceased Palestinians in exchange.

The recovery of the bodies of dead captives has been hampered by Hamas’ claim that the Palestinian territory’s widespread devastation and the Israeli military’s continued occupation of some areas of Gaza have caused.

Hani Mahmoud, a journalist for Al Jazeera from Gaza City, reported that the Palestinian authorities lack the necessary tools to search for the bodies of the captives beneath the rubble of the destroyed buildings.

“The recovery teams on the ground are facing extraordinary challenges,” says the author. To speed up the recovery and return of bodies, they don’t have any bulldozers, trucks, cranes, or other heavy equipment, according to Mahmoud.

Because Al Jazeera is prohibited from Israel and the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut, who is reporting from Amman, Jordan, claimed Netanyahu’s government has known for “some time” that recovering captives’ bodies would be “an incredibly difficult and daunting task.”

However, Netanyahu has claimed that Hamas is failing to return all of the bodies and that all bodies must be returned right away, Salhut said.

She said, “Until that happens, Israel will honor more of the commitments of the ceasefire, like allowing for more humanitarian aid, talking about opening the Rafah border crossing,” and that is when.

Hamas and Israel have exchanged accusations of violating the US-mediated ceasefire for days.

Hamas criticized Israel’s refusal to open the Rafah crossing with Egypt as “a blatant violation” of the agreement and accused the Netanyahu government of “fabricating flimsy pretexts” for failing to fulfill its commitments to the peace deal on Saturday.

In an attack east of Gaza City on Friday, Israeli forces attacked 11 members of a single family, including seven children.

The main entryway into and out of Gaza’s Rafah crossing, which is the main gateway for people there, will reopen on Monday, according to the Egyptian Embassy’s announcement from earlier on Saturday.

Netanyahu, however, stated that the border crossing would remain closed pending Hamas’ request to turn over all of the Israeli prisoners’ bodies.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, humanitarian aid continues to flow slowly into Gaza.

UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, announced on Saturday that it had received enough humanitarian food to provide three months of food for Gaza. However, trucks carrying the vital cargo are stranded in Jordanian and Egyptian warehouses and are unable to enter Gaza.

Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers dead: Band pays emotional tribute to ‘true legend’

Sam Rivers, the bassist for American nu metal band Limp Bizkit, passed away just one month before they were scheduled to tour with the group.

Sam Rivers, the bassist of Limp Bizkit, has tragically died at the age of 48.

The Florida-born nu metal band broke the news of his tragic passing on Saturday, October 19 without revealing his death.

This comes just months after lead singer Fred Durst explained the long-debated meaning behind their band name. The band shared the heartbreaking news with their fans on Instagram, stating, “In Loving Memory of Our Brother, Sam Rivers. Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat. Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player – he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.”

This tragic news follows the recent death of KISS guitarist Ace Frehley at 74, who suffered a terrible fall just days after bandmate Gene Simmons survived a crash.

The band continued to pay tribute to Rivers, saying, “From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous. We shared so many moments – wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones – and every one of them meant more because Sam was there.”, reports the Mirror US.

He was a “once in a lifetime” type of person. They continued, “A true legend of legends.” His spirit will remain present in every song, movement, stage, and memory forever. The band said, “We love you, Sam,” to end their heartfelt tribute. Always with us is the promise. Brother, please be easy. Your music is unending. – DJ Lethal, Wes, and John.

Just one month before Limp Bizkit’s tour of South America, the revelation is revealed.

Sam’s entire existence was centered around music. He co-starred with the band’s drummer, John Otto, throughout his teenage years. He didn’t come across Fred until the early 1990s, when both worked at the same Chick-fil-A.

The trio became Limp Bizkit’s founding members in 1994. Before they added guitarist Wes Borland and DJ Lethal to their lineup, it took another two years. The band rose to international fame over the course of the next 20 years, releasing hits like Break Stuff, Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle), and My Way.

Sam, who has liver disease from years of drinking excessive amounts, temporarily left the group in 2015. He recalled being taken to UCLA Hospital after being admitted because of his illness, saying, “If you don’t stop, you’re going to die.” And you appear to need a new liver at the moment.

After focusing on enhancing his well-being, he finally made a second appearance at Limp Bizkit in 2018. He told Loudwire, “I gave up drinking and followed all the instructions from the doctors.” I received a liver transplant after receiving alcohol treatment. I’m back, and I’m feeling fantastic.

McLaren’s ‘brutal’ reality of ‘that Max guy getting in middle of our fun’

McLaren Formula 1 boss Zak Brown predicted the “brutal” climax to this year’s world championship match at the United States Grand Prix on Saturday morning.

Brown’s words were proved right within a couple of hours of being uttered in a manner the American has said many times he expected to happen this year but was certainly not envisaging when he said them.

At the start of the Austin sprint, his drivers Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri collided, and Red Bull’s Lando Norris won.

Verstappen added eight points to both McLaren drivers after that, and the four-time world champion champion later resurrected his rivals’ wounds with a magnificent pole position for the grand prix.

Norris will line up alongside Verstappen on the front row. Verstappen did not have a second run because of traffic on his out lap, which meant he did not make it to the line before the session ended, which made the gap a chunky 0. 291 seconds more concerning for McLaren.

Verstappen has won two of the past three races, and finished second in the other, won by Mercedes ‘ George Russell in Singapore two weeks ago.

With six races left, McLaren won their second consecutive constructors’ championship in Singapore, but their outstanding form from the beginning of the season has deteriorated. Since the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of August, four races ago, a McLaren driver has finished ahead of Verstappen.

McLaren have never deviated from their belief that Verstappen was still in the title battle, even as he won only two of the first 15 races of the season.

It seemed to be the kind of thing F1 teams used to say to keep their collective attention afloat in the early stages of the competition. It starts to seem very real all at once.

“This Max guy”, Brown said in an interview with BBC Sport, “he’s relentless.

Because our goal is to finish one-two in the drivers’ championship, give our guys equal opportunity to choose who will win, who will finish second, and so I’m more focused on making sure he doesn’t get himself any more in the game than he already does. We really don’t want Max to interrupt our enjoyment, though.

Saturday’s sprinting champion Piastri-Norris

The Circuit of the Americas race took place on Saturday, dominating the McLaren drivers’ crashes.

The world champions responded calmly to it, as they have to every difficult moment this year, including the collision between them on the first lap in Singapore.

The two drivers, Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, were on the inside of Piastri at the first corner, according to Brown and the McLaren team principal Andrea Stella.

Not surprising, Norris did the same, claiming Piastri “got hit” as well.

Piastri said:” For me, it’s a racing incident. The cars behind me were going pretty far to the corner, and I was a long way away from the apex.

“So perhaps I should have done something slightly different,” I ask. Maybe yes, but that different thing would have been to potentially let two or three cars go by.

We can’t just use up all the space on the track by driving around the other side.

With its wide, uphill entry that inevitably leads to a concertina effect mid-turn, the majority of the people insisted that it was a racing incident.

But that view can be held at the same time as differing with McLaren and Piastri’s position.

Some observers thought Piastri was dicing with danger by cutting back so forcefully in an effort to pass Norris on the exit, including the 1996 world champion Damon Hill, who was making comments for BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.

If it had been in the middle of a grand prix, it would have been without any difficulties. But Hill said that his golden rule at the first corner used to be to make no sudden movements, and many experienced racing drivers would agree.

McLaren argued that Hulkenberg had plenty of room left after Piastri was a few yards from the exit. However, the German had little room for maneuvering and Alonso inside.

Norris was questioned after qualifying about McLaren’s review of it and what he thought of it now.

” It will be reviewed, “he said”. Before qualifying and the race are both not ideal, it may take a little longer to fully comprehend everything.

“Things will be reviewed to clarify some more details,” the statement read. Nothing I can do. Just go ahead and pursue my own interests.

“It was difficult, but I said what I did, and I won’t add more,” the statement read.

Stella said the team had had” a couple of chats with Lando and Oscar but fundamentally they were about resetting”, emphasising that focusing on qualifying was important.

We will review it when necessary, work together, and arrive at a fair decision.

McLaren doesn’t appear to be a Verstappen-beating car, according to McLaren.

The crash and Verstappen’s subsequent sprint win cut the four-time champion’s deficit to Piastri to 55 points, while he is now 33 behind Norris.

After the Dutch race on August 31, Verstappen lost almost half of Verstappen’s lead, leading by 104 points, so nearly half of that advantage has been lost in three sprints and grands prix. Six races and two more sprints are still pending.

In the normal run of things, it seems inevitable that Piastri will lose more ground to Verstappen on Sunday in Texas. Norris has a chance to advance, but as he pointed out, this weekend’s McLaren has not looked like a Verstappen-beating car at any point.

Norris declared, “It’s going to be challenging.” “We were hoping to learn a lot in the sprint in terms of how the car set-up would be from qualifying to race and hopefully make tweaks but that didn’t go to plan so we are certainly on the back foot. However, we won’t use it as a justification for tomorrow.

We must be pleased with second because it’s obvious we weren’t going to be as quick as the Red Bull. It’s not being distracted by the mess and nonsense that everyone creates.

“Saturdays have never been this good, so I’m hoping we can turn them up tomorrow and move a little bit quicker.”

I must be optimistic, they say. Every lap we did today was 0.3-0.5secs off Max so to turn that around will be pretty difficult. Max would have gone a good step faster in any case if he had completed his final lap.

They have recently been quick in a lot of races. They have been doing a very good job and seemed to catch us up a little bit. They are only going to be ahead for a short while. And then you can also benefit from more opportunities, which Max is known for making the most of.

Meanwhile, Stella admitted that McLaren were even more aware of just how potent Verstappen can be for the remainder of the season.

He said, “We have to look at the facts, we have to look at the numbers, because I would have anticipated a smaller gap here,” if there had been one. “Just objectively, not necessarily we maximized what the car’s current level of performance offered.”
