JoJo Siwa’s partner Kath Ebbs may not be there to support her when she exits the Celebrity Big Brother house amid her very close bond with Chris Hughes. Fans are convinced Kath will swerve the live final of the ITV show after going mysteriously quiet online.

Kath, 27, had vowed to post updates every day JoJo was in the iconic house, yet their show of support has suddenly dried up. Many are convinced Kath could be struggling following the very touchy scenes between JoJo and Love Island’s Chris that have flooded each episode.

Dance Moms star JoJo, 21, has been dating Kath, who is nonbinary and uses they/she pronouns, since January. They went official earlier this year and have proudly shared loved up snaps online.

However, as fans picked up on the flirty nature of Chris, 32, and JoJo’s friendship, Kath’s social media presence dramatically changed. JoJo and Chris caught the eye of viewers after they were spotted cuddling in bed, writing messages on each other’s hands, holding onto each other and massaging each other.

Kath previously defended JoJo after Mickey Rourke made homophobic comments about the Dance Moms star. Meanwhile, they last posted on both TikTok and Instagram on April 11.

Kath has been flooded with messages from trolls who have brought up the JoJo and Chris drama. One troll penned: “Have you seen JoJo and flirting with Chris??? You was quick to make a TikTok on Mickey where are you hiding now [laughing emojis]”.

Another cruel comment read: “How’s it feel knowing JoJo is flirting with Chris? I hope they hook up now. ” The radio silence from Kath has left many fans now speculating JoJo will not be greeted by her partner when she leaves the house.

A Reddit thread has gone viral as viewers tried to work out if Kath would be there. One user wrote: “So JoJo said quite early on that her partner is coming to get her from the final, does anyone think that Kath will actually show up after all this carry on with Chris?”

Someone replied: “I wouldn’t if I was her,” as another added: “Neither would I. “

A fourth fan shared: “My guess is that they will come, but will ask to be kept out of the crowd/no interview/no camera time. I think they’ll want to speak to JoJo in person asap but without the public prying. “

Another shared: “I’m going to guess not, but who knows. ETA: I personally wouldn’t come all the way from Aus to the UK, especially if I had been receiving the comments Kath has on socials, then all the speculation about JoJo and Chris’ relationship. I wouldn’t put myself through it tbh. “

Kath was last seen pictured throwing out cardboard boxes outside their Sydney home. Their appearance last week came just as cosy scenes between JoJo and Chris aired.

The last comment Kath made was about Mickey’s shocking homophobic comment to JoJo. Along with a video of JoJo and Mickey talking it out, Kath wrote: “This is why I adore this human with all my heart. She is genuinely one of the most empathic, kind and patient people I ever met.

“Not every can offer grace in the face of bigotry, justifiably so. But for those that have the capacity to hold space through hate and dig into the depths of humanity (doesn’t mean you can’t have boundaries) offer an incredible gift to the world. “

A royal was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance after falling ill over the Easter weekend. It has been revealed that Queen Sonja of Norway was admitted to hospital in her home country after experiencing “breathing difficulties”.

The 87-year-old had been flown to the Royal Hospital in Oslo last night from the royal chalet in Sikkilsalen, where she and King Harald of Norway had been spending the Easter weekend. However, in a statement released by the Norwegian royal palace today, it was announced that she had now left hospital, although would be postponing royal duties for the week ahead.

In an update released yesterday, the palace said: “Her Majesty the Queen was admitted to the National Hospital this evening for examinations due to shortness of breath. The Queen was transported by air ambulance from the Prince’s Cabin in Sikkilsdalen, where the Royal Couple spent the Easter holiday. ” Her trip to hospital comes after Sonja had a pacemaker fitted earlier this year with the procedure said to have been successful.

In recent weeks she took part in a state visit to Norway by the President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, and her husband Björn Skúlason. She was there for the welcome ceremony in the Palace Square as well as for the gala dinner.

Queen Sonja’s husband, King Harrald is Europe’s oldest reigning monarch at age 88. The pair married in 1968 and have two children, Prince Haakon, who is the heir to the throne, and Princess Martha Louise.

Over the past 12 months, the Norwegian royal house has been mired in controversy following the arrest of the stepson of Haakon. In August, Marius Borg Hoiby, 27 was arrested and charged with assaulting an ex-girlfriend and threatening to set fire to her clothes, which he admitted to.

Borg Hoiby has no royal title and is the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit – a product of a brief relationship the future Norwegian Queen had before she met and married Crown Prince Haakon.

Mette-Marit was born a ‘commoner’ and was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis – a chronic lung condition – back in 2018, which has forced her in recent months to take an extended sick leave. When her diagnosis was announced, she noted that her “working capacity will vary” as she moves forward and that she would have to take on less official engagements if her health worsened.

Another point of controversy for the Norwegian royal house has been Princess Martha Louise, who stepped back from any official royal duties after marrying a so-called “shaman” – Durek Verett.

Harald, 88, himself has also faced health challenges in the last year, with a serious infection seeing him admitted to hospital during a visit to Malaysia, as well as having to have a pacemaker fitted. The monarch now uses crutches, but has said he has no plans to step down from his position as King, and the oldest European monarch.

Oasis fans hope for new song as Liam Gallagher shares ‘latest track’ ahead of tour

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher will reunite with his brother Noel for a series of sold-out UK and Ireland shows later this year – and fans are convinced new music is on the way

Oasis fans believe Liam Gallagher has hinted at a new song title on his X account earlier this week. The Oasis lead singer is set to reunite with his brother Noel Gallagher for a series of sold-out shows across the UK and Ireland later this year. The tour will kick off in Cardiff on July 4, and fans are speculating that the rock and roll star may have teased some new material.

A post on the r/Oasis subreddit sparked speculation about whether the band, whose last album release was over a decade ago, might be releasing new music. Oasis’ last album, Dig Out Your Soul, was released in 2008, and fans are hopeful for fresh tunes from the group. One fan took to the Oasis Reddit page to ask: “Is Liam leaking the name of a new song? “

This came after Gallagher’s post on X where he shared an image with the words “Stay On The Paths. ” No caption accompanied the picture, leading to the speculation on Reddit.

Fans are divided on whether the band will debut new songs during their upcoming tour. This comes as other iconic 1990s bands that dominated the British music scene have confirmed new releases.

Blur’s reunion two years ago resulted in a new album, The Ballad of Darren, along with two Wembley Stadium shows.

Pulp is also set to release new music, with their album, More, dropping the day before their UK and Ireland tour. Oasis fans are hoping the Gallagher brothers will follow suit, although no official announcement has been made yet.

On the Reddit forum, a user expressed optimism, saying “I want to believe. “

Another fan speculated that it could be a title or even an album name, commenting “Might be! It’s a great title, maybe even an album name. ” A third fan simply wrote “Yes. “

However, others were skeptical about the possibility of new material, as there had been no official announcements from the band. One fan wrote “Not happening. “

Another stated: “There is no new song. ” A third fan simply wrote: “No. “

On X, fans were also unsure about the meaning of Gallagher’s post, with one user asking “what path” he was referring to. Gallagher replied “THE RASTA PATH. “

This comes as fans eagerly await more tour dates from Oasis, although it seems unlikely that there will be a secret show before July 4.

One fan asked on the forum if anyone thought the band might have a pre-tour show in May, before their scheduled show in Cardiff.

Some fans are hopeful that this might happen, with one writing “I think there is a fair chance they do a small warm up similar to how The Stones Roses played Warrington Town Hall before they kicked off their reunion tour in 2012. “

“It gives not just the band an opportunity to warm up and possibly fine tune the setlist, but also allows the production crew to battle test things like lighting/video queues and changes in the mix prior to taking the show on the road.

The highly acclaimed Oscar-nominated film will be leaving Netflix on May 1.

UN food agency cites funding gap as it halts aid to 650,000 in Ethiopia

The World Food Programme (WFP) said it is suspending aid for 650,000 malnourished women and children in Ethiopia due to a lack of funding.

The UN agency warned on Tuesday that 3. 6 million people in Ethiopia overall are at risk of losing access to food aid in the coming weeks unless new financial support can urgently be sourced.

“WFP is being forced to halt treatment for 650,000 malnourished women and children in May due to insufficient funding,” the UN agency said in a statement.

The agency said it had planned to reach two million mothers and children with life-saving nutrition assistance in 2025 but will fall short due to a predicted funding shortfall of $222m between April and September.

“Cash and in-kind food assistance for up to one million refugees will stop in June if additional funding is not received,” the agency warned.

Like many aid agencies, the WFP is caught in the crosshairs of funding cuts instituted by the administration of United States President Donald Trump. Shortly after his inauguration in January, Trump signed an executive order freezing all foreign aid.

Conflict, instability and drought

Conflict, instability and drought are key reasons why more than 10 million of Ethiopia’s 130 million people face the threat of hunger, the UN agency said.

The East African country is recovering from two years of brutal civil war between federal forces and rebels in the northern region of Tigray, which ended in November 2022 and killed at least 600,000 people.

Tensions are again mounting between longtime foes Ethiopia and Eritrea over Addis Ababa’s quest for maritime access, causing fears of yet another conflict in the Horn of Africa barely seven years after the two neighbours restored ties.

After a year of hostility, Pakistan and Afghanistan seek diplomatic reboot

Islamabad, Pakistan –  When Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar landed in Kabul on April 19 for a daylong visit, it marked the first major trip by a senior Pakistani official to Afghanistan since February 2023.

Dar’s visit came just days after senior military and intelligence officials from both countries had met in Kabul for the first time since January 2024.

These meetings follow months of strained relations between the neighbours amid frequent border skirmishes, Pakistan’s decision to expel Afghan refugees, and repeated border closures that have disrupted business and trade.

Dar’s trip, say analysts, signals a willingness from both sides to reset ties through diplomacy.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar met Afghanistan’s interim foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi. The two leaders held discussions on “security, trade, transit, connectivity, and people-to-people contacts”.

The statement from the Afghan Foreign Ministry, however, did not mention security concerns and focused on issues such as “situation of Afghan refugees, political relations, economic cooperation, trade, transit, large-scale joint projects, and other matters of mutual interest. ”

At a news conference in Kabul following his meeting with Muttaqi, Dar said Pakistan has invited Afghan officials to Islamabad and called for open communication channels to resolve disputes between the two countries.

“We have requested our hosts that we have to work together for the progress, betterment and peace and security of the region. For that, neither will we allow anyone to use our soil to conduct illicit activities in Afghanistan, nor will you allow anyone to use your soil,” Dar said.

Security concerns after 2021

Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021 after the United States withdrew its troops, Pakistan has witnessed a sharp increase in violent attacks, particularly in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the southwestern province of Balochistan, both of which share borders with Afghanistan.

Islamabad has repeatedly alleged that Afghan soil is being used by armed groups, especially the Pakistan Taliban, known by the acronym TTP, to launch attacks across the porous border.

Pakistan Taliban, founded in 2007, is ideologically aligned with the Taliban in Afghanistan but operates independently. The Taliban has repeatedly rejected allegations that it allows its soil to be used for attacks against Pakistan, and has consistently denied any ties with the TTP.

Data from the Pak Institute For Peace Studies, an Islamabad-based conflict research organisation, shows that Pakistan experienced 521 attacks in 2024, a 70 percent increase from the previous year.

These incidents claimed 852 lives, a 23 percent rise, with 358 of those killed being law enforcement personnel. Most of the violence occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Once seen as a benefactor of the Taliban, Pakistan has cited the uptick in violence as the main reason for its crackdown on hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees, many of whom have lived in the country for decades.

Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, welcoming several waves of displaced people as conflict continued in the country.

Following the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent US invasion of Afghanistan, thousands of Afghans returned home. However, the Taliban’s dramatic return to power in August 2021 prompted another wave of displacement, with between 600,000 and 800,000 people seeking refuge in Pakistan.

Since the expulsion programme  began in November 2023, nearly one million Afghan nationals have been forced to return, with the Pakistani government declaring that it would continue its repatriation drive.

Global rights organisations, as well as the Afghan government, have urged Pakistan to reconsider the decision and ensure the dignity of those being deported.

Revival of diplomatic ties?

Despite rising hostilities between the two countries, including Pakistani air attacks on Afghan soil in December that killed at least 46 people, analysts see Dar’s visit as “significant” and suggestive of a broader resumption of dialogue.

Iftikhar Firdous, co-founder of The Khorasan Diary, a portal that tracks regional security issues, pointed out that this was the highest-level visit from Pakistan to Kabul since former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s trip in November 2020.

“The visit by Dar included discussions on security, ease of business for traders, and continued conversations on cross-border issues,” Firdous told Al Jazeera.

The Islamabad-based analyst added that the recent meeting between military and intelligence officials indicates that backchannel efforts to resurrect diplomacy were under way even before Dar’s trip.

“It was not a start, but instead a culmination of the agenda to re-engage with Afghanistan and break the ice,” he said.

Amina Khan, director of the Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East and Africa at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), said both sides appear to be looking for ways to accommodate each other’s concerns.

“For Pakistan, it is security, and for Kabul, it is trade. However, since both are intertwined, a comprehensive bilateral approach is needed. This trip appears to have initiated a dialogue. One will have to see if both sides can maintain the positive momentum,” she told Al Jazeera.

Khan added that Pakistan recognises the importance of Afghanistan to its own stability.

“Pakistan realises that, in order to achieve this, workable ties with Kabul are paramount, but at the same time it is pivotal for Kabul to address Pakistan’s security concerns emanating from the TTP,” she said.

A United Nations report [PDF] published in February concluded that the Taliban continued to provide logistical, operational and financial support to the TTP. It added that the armed group has set up new training centres in border regions near Pakistan.

In response, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Afghan government spokesperson, denied the allegation, calling it a “regular slander” against the country.

“The stance of the UN is misused. We call on the countries who are members of the UNSC but have good relations with Afghanistan to not allow the reputation of the organization to be harmed,” Mujahid said in February.

On the same page?

Khan of ISSI said the Taliban faces its own challenges while dealing with armed groups like the Pakistan Taliban.

“Pakistan understands the limitations of the Afghan Taliban in taking action against the TTP, who may very well join the ranks of so-called ISIS [ISIL] and take up arms against the government,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban has stressed that the Afghan government is unhappy about the eviction of hundreds of thousands of Afghans by Pakistan.

Raising the issue of their forced repatriation in the meeting with Dar, Minister Muttaqi stressed the need for humane treatment and urged Pakistani authorities to protect the rights of Afghan nationals currently residing in Pakistan or returning from there.

The Pakistan Foreign Ministry statement, meanwhile, focused on the country’s security concerns.

“The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the paramount importance of addressing all pertinent issues, particularly those related to security and border management, in order to fully realise the potential for regional trade and connectivity,” the ministry’s statement read.

Still, Khan, the analyst, said she believes that Dar’s visit has broken the ice. Now, the key will be to “remain engaged” and pursue a holistic approach to bilateral relations, she said.
