Prince Harry’s feud with King Charles and why it will ‘never be resolved’

Psychotherapist Lucy Beresford explains why she thinks their rift will never be resolved as Prince Harry and King Charles work to mend their father-son bond.

At a time when we thought there was nothing more Prince Harry could say against his family, the Duke of Sussex caused new shockwaves in a BBC interview, raising more grievances about his treatment since stepping down as a working royal.

Harry claimed to have felt “let down” once more and that the Royal Household had influenced the decision to lower his security after losing his Court of Appeal challenge over the level of security he received while traveling to the UK.

The Duke resigned as a working royal in 2020, and it was decided that he would not be automatically given full security while residing in the UK.

Harry claimed that due to security concerns, some people “want history to repeat itself by denying him a higher level of security” and that his father “won’t talk to him.”

Harry later learned that a member of the Royal Household’s Ravec committee, which authorizes security for senior royals for the Home Office, had “hit the floor.”

The Court of Appeal determined that the committee’s then-chair, Sir Richard Mottram, had made the decision without conducting a thorough analysis of the threats Harry faced at the time, and that a thorough analysis would not have affected the outcome.

After speaking with the Royal Household, Harry claimed Sir Richard “abandoned” a thorough examination of his security arrangements. The prince added that, “I have had it described to me that this is a good old fashioned establishment stitch up – and that’s what it feels like” during the BBC interview.

Harry stated that he was hopeful for reconciliation despite all of his grievances and that he didn’t “know how long his father has been gone.”

According to psychologist and relationship coach Lucy Beresford, at least in Harry’s mind, there is a sense that King Charles is “letting him down.”

Lucy told us: “He says he makes some comments about ‘the establishment’ which were on this particular body or board or committee that decides who gets security. So, Prince Harry is making an assumption that King Charles could do something about that. I do not know whether that is true or not.”

However, Harry has shown a great deal of love and devotion to his “Pa.” Just hours after Charles’ shocking diagnosis was made public, Harry took a plane to see the King.

However, his Spare, his 2023 memoir, and TV interviews continue to have negative effects. Since learning of his illness, Harry has reportedly only seen his father once.

However, according to psychotherapist Lucy, Harry’s attitude to himself will remain in “victim mode.” And the title of his book might offer a glimpse into his burning resentment.

The expert explains: “Psychologically, as Freud identified, sons need to feel that they will eventually triumph over their fathers. In this particular family, that is actually going to happen. When King Charles dies, Prince William will literally take his job.

However, Prince Harry will never have access to that. He will never have the chance to fulfill that psychological destiny. Of course, that is not everyone’s fault. Being “the spare,” however, may be what is causing some of this resentment unintentionally.

He makes some remarks about “the establishment” members of this particular committee that determines security. Prince Harry therefore assumes that King Charles has the ability to change that. I’m not sure if that is accurate. However, he thinks he feels repulsed.

Lucy also makes a point that his interviews with the BBC are unique from those on the show. She explains that “there is an element of him not wanting to be forgotten; the irony is that he moved to America as he himself, and this interview for the BBC is more about trying to make people aware that he still exists.”

He seems to be saying, “don’t forget me!” “

Lucy claims that the interview demonstrates Harry’s “inner child” has “has” hijacked his adult brain in relation to his security concerns and that what happened to his mother, Princess Diana, could happen to him and his family.

If it has already occurred in your family. There is a theory that it might occur. You could probably make your own decisions as a grownup, she says, “to prevent it from happening again.”

However, his inner child is so powerful that it almost seems to have been hijacked by his adult brain, saying “no, this would definitely happen if I don’t get the security I crave,” “and really bad things will happen.”

“The main problem that Prince Harry has got, is that the Royal Family now don’t trust him because he keeps going on to the media,” says Lucy.

“We don’t trust you when you speak in the media, and the most recent thing you say is, I want to reconcile,” you might as well put it. He kind of strengthens the negative perception of everyone.

In the end, Lucy thinks that despite his father’s separation, Lucy’s desire to reconcile with him may not be real.

Ballance joins Zimbabwe staff for England Test

Former batter Gary Ballance will be part of Zimbabwe’s coaching staff during the four-day Test against England later this month.

Ballance, 35, played 23 Tests and 16 one-day internationals for England between 2013 and 2017.

After admitting using racist language as part of the Yorkshire racism scandal in 2021, Ballance signed a two-year deal to play for Zimbabwe – the country of his birth.

He played one Test, five ODIs and one T20 for Zimbabwe before retiring in 2023, saying he “no longer has the desire to dedicate himself” to professional sport.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gary Ballance to our coaching set-up for this historic tour,” said Zimbabwe’s managing director Givemore Makoni.

Ballance scored 1,653 runs at an average of 40.31 in Tests.

After taking 10 Tests or 17 innings to reach 1,000 Test runs – he was the third fastest to that landmark for England behind Herbert Sutcliffe and Len Hutton – he faded and was dropped in 2017.

He played for Yorkshire between 2008 and 2021 and admitted he was responsible for some of the offensive terms Azeem Rafiq was subjected to during his time at Headingley.

England and Zimbabwe meet in a one-off Test at Trent Bridge from 22 May.

Aston Villa ‘not happy’ over Spurs fixture switch

To give Spurs more time to get ready for a potential Europa League final appearance, Aston Villa have moved their Premier League game against Tottenham by two days to May 16th.

There was “clear prejudice” against the club in this decision, according to Villa’s director of football operations Damian Vidagany, but he hoped it would be remembered if the club needed assistance with fixture scheduling in the future.

Spurs had scheduled a 14:15 BST kick-off on May 18 but requested an earlier start in order for Ange Postecoglou’s side to have more time to prepare if they reached the Europa League final on May 21.

Vidagany posted a picture on social media that read, “Fixture changed and, to be honest, not happy.” However, things could get worse. We really put forth a lot of pressure on everyone at different club levels to protect our fans, which is our main duty, and to keep the Spurs game on Sunday. Nothing against the Spurs.

We didn’t feel this or the previous support. English clubs on the verge of the finals are not only demanding but also competitive in Europe.

With Wednesday or Thursday regarded as alternatives, Vidagany added that moving the game to Friday, which kicks off at 19:30, was the “less damaging” option they could receive.

The switch was not what they wanted, according to Villa’s director of football Monchi, who echoed Vidagany’s sentiments, and supporters didn’t deserve the disruption.

In the semi-final, Tottenham are 3-1 ahead of Bodo/Glimt, and they could face Manchester United, who are 3-3 up in a tie with Athletic Bilbao, in the final. On Thursday, both second legs will be played.

Even if Postecoglou’s side are eliminated and do not advance to the final in Bilbao, the Spurs game will still be played at Villa.

Villa objected to the request for the change, noting that there is no Premier League precedent allowing clubs in Europe to relocate fixtures.

Due to their participation in the Champions League and FA Cup, Villa had played every three or four days in April, according to a report from BBC Sport at the time.

Another factor in the objection was that this was Villa’s final home game of the season and that it might have pre-planned family activation activities that wouldn’t be possible if the game were played on a school night.

The Premier League has confirmed that the game will begin at 19:30 the following evening despite Tottenham’s initial request to move it to the evening of May 15.

India, UK agree ‘historic’ trade deal including tariff cuts

India and the United Kingdom have agreed to a trade deal that comes after three years of negotiations and that they say will boost their economies amid the fallout from US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The British government said on Tuesday that the deal “is expected to increase bilateral trade by 25.5 billion pounds]$34bn], UK GDP by 4.8 billion pounds]$6.4bn] and wages by 2.2 billion pounds]$2.9bn] each year in the long run”.

“Indian tariffs will be slashed, locking in reductions on 90 percent of tariff lines, with 85 percent of these becoming fully tariff-free within a decade”.

The British alcohol and car industries are some of the main beneficiaries, with tariffs on whisky and gin getting halved to 75 percent before reducing to 40 percent by year 10 of the deal. Automotive tariffs will go from over 100 percent to 10 percent under a quota.

Tariffs will also be reduced on British exports including cosmetics, medical devices, aerospace parts, lamb, salmon, chocolate, and biscuits.

India’s Trade Ministry said 99 percent of Indian exports would face no import duty under the deal.

“This brings us closer to our goal of becoming a global economic powerhouse. It protects our core interests while opening doors to India’s greater participation in global value chains”, Trade Minister Piyush Goyal said.

The deal introduces a “Double Contribution Convention” that exempts Indian workers in the UK from national insurance payments for up to three years, and vice versa.

Advanced negotiations on a separate bilateral investment treaty and further discussions on labour and environmental standards are ongoing as well.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Keir Starmer spoke on the phone on Tuesday to mark the agreement, and Modi invited Starmer to visit the country.

“These landmark agreements will further deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and catalyse trade, investment, growth, job creation, and innovation in both our economies”, Modi said in a post on X.

“Strengthening our alliances and reducing trade barriers with economies around the world is part of our Plan for Change to deliver a stronger and more secure economy here at home”, said Starmer, hailing what the government says is the UK’s largest trade agreement since leaving the European Union in 2020.

The two leaders are expected to meet in the coming months to sign and finalise the deal.

India also sought to receive an exemption from the UK’s forthcoming carbon tax – a climate policy tool set to be implemented from 2027 – but officials did not elaborate on the details in their statements on Tuesday.

Cas rejects Club Leon appeal over Club World Cup ban

Getty Images

Club Leon have failed with an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) against FIFA’s decision to remove them from the Club World Cup.

Fifa determined in March that Club Leon and fellow Mexican team Pachuca did not meet tournament regulations on multi-club ownership.

Because both clubs are owned by Grupo Pachuca, Fifa removed Club Leon from the tournament which is being held in the United States from 15 June to 13 July.

Cas received separate appeals from Pachuca and Club Leon seeking to annul the decision and declare that the clubs comply with the Club World Cup eligibility requirements.

Club Leon also filed an additional appeal against the decision by the Fifa secretary general, seeking to be reinstated in the competition.

However, Cas upheld Fifa’s original decision and said in a statement that a panel found that Club Leon “failed to meet the criteria in the regulations”.

“The panel examined the evidence, including the Club Leon trust set up by the owners of the club, and concluded that this trust was insufficient to comply with the regulations”, said a Cas statement.

“Consequently, Club Leon remains excluded from the competition and Pachuca remains qualified”.

Cas also dismissed an appeal made by Costa Rican side Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA), who said they should be admitted to the Club World Cup as the next eligible team.

LDA had lifted the 2023 Central American Cup, but Cas said it rejected the appeal “with reasons to follow later” and said Fifa was “responsible for designating the final qualified team to participate”.

As BBC Sport reported in March, Major League Soccer side LAFC and Mexican team Club America are now set to play a one-off play-off game for the final spot in the Club World Cup.

LAFC were beaten by Club Leon in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League final, while Club America are the highest-ranked team behind Club Leon in confederation ranking that did not qualify for the competition.

Victoria Beckham’s heartfelt plea to Brooklyn as famous family admits major Prince Harry fear

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz seem to be going solo away from the Beckham family, and mum Victoria has shared her worry that the worst could happen if he doesn’t come back into the fold

The Beckham family once seemed inseparable, but that’s all changed. Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz have been distancing themselves from his parents and siblings for months, and it seems his absence from David Beckham’s 50th birthday is the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Insiders say that things have “not been the same” since Brooklyn and Nicola got together in 2019, and their marriage in 2022 didn’t seem to ease things between the newlyweds and his family. After years of tension, however, it appears that the family ties are at a breaking point after the party, with David seeing the couple’s absence as a “real blow”.

While David is understandably upset by Brooklyn’s choice not to attend his milestone event – despite confirming that he’d be there just a week before – Victoria Beckham has her own concerns. The doting mum fears that unless things change soon, Brooklyn will only veer further away from his loved ones, and end up emulating another couple who have distanced themselves from the husband’s family completely.

Brooklyn is married to heiress Nicola Peltz, and his family is concerned that he’ll ditch them and decamp to LA with her for good

A source close to the family spoke to the Express, and said that “both Victoria and David were disappointed that it has gotten to this and they can feel a wedge growing between them.”

The insider then likened Brooklyn’s situation to that of Prince Harry, who split from his family and moved to Los Angeles after marrying Meghan Markle. The similarity is said to be on Victoria’s mind, who’s desperate to mend things before they reach such a huge gulf.

“Apparently Victoria has said she doesn’t want this fall out to become like Prince Harry and the royals with their son living in America with his wife while his family stay in the UK”, the source said.

Unfortunately, David’s 50th isn’t the only family occasion Brooklyn has missed, and it seems that it’s becoming a recurring theme for him to opt to stay in with his wife or go to different events.

Brooklyn and Nicola were also absent from Victoria’s catwalk show during Paris Fashion Week this year, while the rest of the family headed to France to support her. Similarly, he and Nicola didn’t publicly share anything to mark Victoria’s 51st birthday last month.

And, much like many pointed the finger at Meghan, the same is now happening with Nicola – with the Beckhams reportedly worried that she’s the person responsible for Brooklyn’s distance.

“They failed to turn up at any family events and yet they will go to a place where they will barely know anyone,” a source told the Daily Mail, adding: “Victoria and David would do anything to get their son back, but they are done with Nicola now.”

The source continued, “It all smells of a control thing,” after explaining how Brooklyn and Nicola might fight over how to stop him from talking to his family. Brooklyn is a kind boy who clearly doesn’t feel like he can stand up to Nicola, and the family is certain that this is what happened this time around.
