Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will leave the Spanish club at the end of the season to become the new national team coach of Brazil.

The 65-year-old Italian will officially take charge of Brazil on 26 May following the conclusion of the La Liga season.

He leaves the Santiago Bernabeu as one of the club’s most successful managers.

Ancelotti won 15 trophies across two spells as Real manager and last season led Los Blancos to a Champions League and La Liga double.

However, his exit from Real comes after Sunday’s El Clasico defeat left Real seven points behind leaders Barcelona with three games remaining.

A statement from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said Ancelotti was a “legend of the game” and acknowledged the significance of a foreign coach taking charge of the team.

“This landmark moment sees the coming together of two icons — the only five-time Fifa World Cup champions, and a coach with an unmatched record across Europe’s elite competitions,” the CBF said.

“The CBF warmly welcomes Mr Ancelotti and looks forward to a new era of success under his leadership.”

In their statement, the CBF thanked Real president Florentino Perez for “facilitating the coach’s release during his contract term” and also acknowledged Brazilian businessman Diego Fernandes for his role in the deal.

Ancelotti’s current deal with Real was set to expire in June 2026.

The Italian takes over the Brazil job from Dorival Junior, who was sacked in March after they lost 4-1 to arch-rivals Argentina in World Cup qualifying.

Brazil sit fourth in the South American group, having lost five of 14 games, although are still well placed to qualify for the 2026 finals.

Ancelotti’s first games in charge of Brazil will be the Selecao’s World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Ecuador next month.

Brazil have not won the World Cup since 2002 and the last time they were Copa America champions was in 2019.

During a 30-year managerial career Ancelotti has been in charge of some of the giants of European football, including Juventus, AC Milan, Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich.

He has won league titles in Italy, Spain, France, Germany and England.

Former Real, Liverpool and Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso, 43, is set to replace Ancelotti in the Bernabeu hot seat.

Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan pleads not guilty to harassing trans activist

Father Ted co-creator, Graham Linehan, has pled not guilty to harassing a transgender woman and damaging her phone.

The Irish comedy writer, 56, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday to deny the charges of harassing Sophia Brooks on social media and damaging her mobile in October.

Linehan, who shot to fame with the iconic Channel 4 show, previously wrote on social media that the charges were related to an incident at the Battle of Ideas conference in London in October.

Court documents show Linehan is charged with harassing the alleged victim by posting abusive comments about her on social media between October 11 and October 27, and damaging her phone to the value of £369 on the day of the conference.

Seen outside Westminster Magistrates Court in London, Linehan, wore a t.shirt printed with an image of newspaper article, which read ‘Trans women are not women’ following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the definition of a woman last month.

In a post on X in April, he claimed that the charges related to a complaint from a trans activist. In 2023, he recalled in his book titled Tough Crowd: How I Made And Lost A Career In Comedy, that he lost his comedy career after he “championed an unfashionable cause”.

Following the charges of harassment without violence and criminal damage, Linehan told the Mirror : “This is part of a long history of the police acting as a goon squad for trans rights activists.”

He went on to make a number of allegations about the alleged victim, adding that he looked forward to ‘exposing him and them in court’.

The Bafta-winning writer, who also came up with TV sitcoms The IT Crowd and Black Books, has become a strong vocal critic of the trans rights movement in recent years.

He has previously claimed that his career and marriage have been destroyed over his gender-critical views.

Linehan, who was born in Dublin and survived cancer in 2018, has also said he had lost his career, family and friends after getting caught up in the trans debate.

He has won a lifetime achievement award and penned a memoir, Tough Crowd: How I Made and Lost a Career in Comedy, which was published in October 2023 and reached number ten on the Sunday Times bestseller list.

A CPS spokesperson said in April: “Graham Linehan is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court for a first hearing to face charges of harassment without violence and criminal damage on 12 May.”

Diddy appears in court as his six children watch on from gallery ahead of sex trafficking trial

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs appeared in court as his trial began today.

The rapper’s family – including his mum and six of his children – filled the New York City courthouse as opening statements were read out.

It comes after the jury selection was finalised, commencing what has been called America’s celebrity trial of the century.

However, it already faced a delay with the final decisions of the selection postponed until today due to concerns that jurors might drop out over the weekend if the panel was finalised on Friday as originally planned.

Combs’s defence team had requested the delay, but prosecutors had opposed the postponement. The 55-year-old music mogul is accused of a number of serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution.

He has continued to deny all allegations against him since he was charged and put behind bars last year, with his multiple bail pleas rejected.

The Last Night rapper believes the jury will clear him of the damning allegations made agaist him, with the 12 people on the jury set to hear shocking evidence that could potentially put the star away for life.

Federal prosecutors in New York alleged Combs “abused, threatened and coerced women” into long, drug-fuelled orgies with male prostitutes he called “freak offs” and even threatened them into silence.

The indictment against him stated: “After Freak Offs, Combs and the victims typically received IV fluids to recover from the physical exertion and drug use.”

Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz have proved they are capable of playing happy families – but with her relations! The married couple, who are locked in a bitter feud with Brooklyn’s parents and siblings, recently enjoyed a star-studded night out with Nicola’s brother and pals.

The former aspiring photographer, 26, and billionaire heiress Nicola, 30, have kept their distance from the Beckham clan both online and in the real world over recent works, with the pair even snubbing David Beckham’s 50th birthday earlier this month.

It’s thought the issues between the couple and David and Victoria Beckham stem from Romeo Beckham, 22, finding love with 24-year-old Kim Turnbull – one of Brooklyn’s exes! The rift has reported got so bad that Brooklyn has been ignoring his “concerned” parents attempts to reach out.

Amid the drama, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz were all smiles as they enjoyed a night out with pals on Friday. Bates Motel actress Nicola, 30, was spotted alongside Brooklyn, 26, at the star-studded Angelini Osteria in Los Angeles, where they were celebrating actor Oliver Trevena’s 45th birthday.

Nicola and Brooklyn, who tied the knot in a lavish £3 million ceremony back in 2022, were tagged in a post by birthday boy Oliver, who shared a series of snaps from the party, captioning it: ‘Life just keeps getting better! What a night!”

Joining them were Nicola’s brother Will, 38, and his partner Kenya Jones, along with Hollywood stars Gerard Butler and Tony Curran. Also present were Riverdale heartthrob Hart Denton and Deadpool and Wolverine actor Lewis Tan.

Nicola’s close bond with her brother is a far cry from Brooklyn’s strained relationship with his siblings. The cooking enthusiast, who used to fill his Instagram with loving tributes to his parents and three siblings – Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13, hasn’t been seen in a photo with them since Boxing Day of the previous year. He also didn’t publicly recognise David and Victoria’s recent birthdays.

Over the weekend, David appeared to reach out to his eldest son amid the rift. On Sunday, Mother’s Day was celebrated in America – almost a month and a half after the annual holiday was observed in the UK. Despite being British, David took advantage of the symbolic day to post a photo of wife Victoria with all four of their offspring.

The ex-footballer shared a throwback snap of his wife Vicky, cradling their daughter Harper Seven as a baby on her chest, sided by their sons Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz hugging the singer-turned-fashion designer.

With the sweet photo, he penned: “Happy Mother’s Day to the best mommy. To all our friends in the U.S. Happy Mother’s Day.” Intriguingly, he made it a point to tag his sons, including Brooklyn. Fans are speculating whether this could be the footballer’s way of reaching out to his son through the Mother’s Day tribute.

This follows shortly after Brooklyn seemingly addressed rumours of a rift with his father during a weekend interview with The Sunday Times.

In the interview, Brooklyn spoke fondly of Formula E racing as common ground with his father, saying: “It’s something that me and my dad bonded over. My dad’s had some pretty cool cars.”
