Danny O’Donoghue, best known for being The Script frontman and a judge on The Voice UK, has tied the knot with his long-term girlfriend Anais Niang.

Their love story began during the coronavirus pandemic when they met on the streets of London by pure chance, and they’ve been together ever since. Danny and Anais, now 44 and 31, first went public with their romance at the Pride of Britain Awards in 2021 and it wasn’t long before Danny popped the question.

In August last year Danny whisked Anais away to Norway, a place he described as his ‘favourite place on earth’, to get down on one knee to propose. Fast forward nine months and the loved-up couple said ‘I do’ on Thursday, May 8 and gushed that they were “over the moon” to become husband and wife.

Danny has shown his love for the French beauty in his music with the One Thing I Got Right and Anais’ ‘favourite’ song At Your Feet, which Danny has said is ‘directly about her’.

Before finding love with Anais Danny was previously in a four-year relationship with Lithuanian model Irma Mali until 2012. He then dated Brazilian model Anne De Paula for four years after meeting on the set of his 2014 music video No Good In Goodbye, and splitting in 2018.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Danny and Anais gushed: “We’re over the moon to be married and now we take the first steps on the journey of the rest of our lives together!” He added: “We actually live in the same part of London, and up until now we’ve mainly just been hanging out at home. My mum loved her, and they offered her lots of tea.”

While the exact location of the ceremony has not ben revealed MailOnline has shared the first exclusive photo of the newlyweds on their big day. Danny looked dapper in a classic tuxedo and bow tie, with a white rose boutonniere, while Anais dazzled in a white gown with a layered skirt that showcased her incredible figure. Anais oozed elegance as she added a pair of satin evening gloves and chic pearl drop earrings, while sweeping her hair into a sleek bun topped with a long veil to complete the look.

His joyous nuptials come after a difficult couple of years for Danny, following the death of his bandmate Mark Sheehan in 2023 who passed away in hospital from an undisclosed illness. Last year, Danny revealed that he went ‘off the rails’ after his friend of 30 years’ death, turning to alcohol and cigarettes.

Last September Danny emotionally said: “Last year was devastating, we lost my best friend and guitarist in the band, Mark, it took us a little while to come out from underneath that. I went down a bit of a hole last year, drinking and trying to get over the grief of your best mate. I gave up drink, alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine. I’m not fun anymore but I’m healthy! Coming into this year as completely sober.”

He continued, sharing his experience with grief: “You never really get rid of grief, it’s always there, you just learn to grow around it,” and explained how working on the new album served as a therapeutic process and provided the group with a sense of direction.

Reflecting on his grief, he emotionally added: “It’s in real time, some days are better than others and I guess I’ll come on maybe a show like this and I’ll see pictures. Get shown them all the time, it’s both heartbreaking but also a great testament. People remember him in such a way and he touched so many people’s lives around the world. It’s beautiful.”

Elaine Paige nearly quit acting – until major Hollywood icon intervened

Celebrating 60 years in showbiz, Elaine Paige is looking back on her glittering career for the BBC. But she once had doubts she’d make it, leaving one legend to set her straight.

Elaine Paige is stunned by her own success – she once struggled to find a good role

Before Elaine Paige was catapulted to stardom as Eva Perón in Evita, she nearly quit show business altogether – but one Hollywood A-lister intervened before it was too late.

“I was nearing 30 and everyone around me was either getting married, having children or succeeding in their own careers,” Elaine Paige says. “Though I worked, I couldn’t land a really good role.”

Tired of rejection and uncertain about her future, she even considered retraining as a nursery nurse. “I was just trying to think of other things that I might do if working in theatre didn’t come to pass,” she says.

Elaine, 77, partly blames her height for those early struggles. “They would often cast a 6ft tall man,” she quips. “It was awkward. They sometimes put a board down to lift me up so I could be in the same frame.”

It was Hollywood legend Dustin Hoffman who convinced her to hang on, offering her the perfect encouragement at a time when rejection felt relentless.

“I was thinking of throwing in the towel because there’s only so much rejection one can take. But he encouraged me to stick with it,” Elaine says. “He told me not to give up, to keep singing and, if necessary, sing on the streets like Édith Piaf.”

Shortly afterwards, Elaine won the role that made her a star and, ironically, her petit 5ft stature worked in her favour. “Eva Perón herself was a small person,” Elaine says. “She was only about 5ft 2in or something!”

Since her star turn in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1978 hit, Elaine has lived many lives on stage, taking on iconic roles in Cats, Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease and Sunset Boulevard.

In 2014, she bid farewell to full-time stage work with a sold-out 50th anniversary tour. Although she still performs selectively, the Olivier Award winner has transitioned to the small screen, appearing in the BBC ’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream , the comedy Home From Home and the drama series Life .

Now, the BBC is celebrating her six decades in show business. “I was amazed when they told me” she says. “It’s both flattering and slightly overwhelming.” And the longevity of her own career is still daunting. “It’s hard to believe, it’s gone by in a blink of an eye.”

The celebrations kicked off with a starry BBC Radio 2 concert at the London Palladium, broadcast on 4 May. Hosted by Zoe Ball, the show featured big names from the West End and Broadway, including Samantha Barks and Charlie Stemp.

And this Sunday, 11 May, BBC Four airs an exclusive interview where Zoe sits down with Elaine for a candid career-spanning conversation.

“I’d never met Zoe before, even though we’re colleagues at the BBC,” Elaine says, “so it was a pleasure to meet her. She’s very easygoing, and friendly. We got on terribly well. It felt like a bit of a chat rather than a two-hour interview.”

Elaine’s glittering career has brought her face to face with royalty and showbiz legends alike, but few moments have matched a surreal encounter with the late Queen Elizabeth II during a private concert at Windsor Castle with Barbara Dickson, when a wardrobe malfunction struck mid-performance.

“My earring fell out of my ear,” she recalls. “I picked it up and placed it on the lid of the piano and carried on singing.” After the concert, the Queen came to greet her. “She threw her arms around me in this enormous hug,” Elaine recalls, “then she said, ‘It’s such a nuisance when that happens, isn’t it?’”

But she once thought of quitting, until Dustin Hoffman intervened

Today, the star is realistic about her future on the stage. “Never say never,” she says, “but I honestly can’t imagine performing in musicals ever again. Musical theatre demands everything you’ve got. You have to be incredibly fit, strong and have endless energy.

“When I played Eva or Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard , I couldn’t play these roles with my heart and soul and live an ordinary life,” she says. “It was so demanding in every aspect. You have to be dedicated to giving up your life. But I loved every minute.”

These days, Elaine is content to pass the baton to a new generation, yet she admits there’s still a part of her that misses it. “I watch others now,” she says. “I sometimes think, ‘I wish I could still do it.’ But I don’t know if I can ever do it again.”

She’s thrilled, however, that musical theatre has finally captured the mainstream’s imagination. “Twenty years ago, it was a niche subject,” she says. “It wasn’t as cool as it is now!”

Putin proposes direct Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul on May 15

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15, “without preconditions” to achieve “lasting peace” and “eliminate the root causes” of the three-year conflict.

The offer, delivered early on Sunday, came hours after the leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom called for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire to start on Monday.

The leaders, who were meeting in Kyiv, said their call is backed by United States President Donald Trump and threatened “massive” new sanctions on Moscow if it did not agree with their plan.

Putin did not explicitly address that call in his comments, but slammed European “ultimatums” and “anti-Russian rhetoric” before outlining the counter-proposal for renewed Russia-Ukraine negotiations.

“We are proposing that Kyiv resume direct negotiations without any preconditions,” the Russian president told reporters. “We offer the Kyiv authorities to resume negotiations already on Thursday, in Istanbul.”

Putin said that he would speak to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later on Sunday about facilitating the talks.

There was no immediate response from Ukraine to the proposal.

But Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously said he was ready for peace talks, but only after a ceasefire is in place.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, has left hundreds of thousands of soldiers dead and triggered the gravest confrontation between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators held direct talks in Istanbul in the first weeks of the conflict, but failed to agree to halt the fighting.

Putin said Russia was proposing restarting the talks in an attempt to “eliminate the root causes of the conflict” and “to achieve the restoration of a long-term, lasting peace” rather than simply a pause for rearmament.

“We do not exclude that during these talks we will be able to agree on some new ceasefire,” he added.

Putin, whose forces have advanced over the past year, has faced increased public and private pressure from Trump as well as warnings from European powers to end the war.

But he has offered few concessions and has stood firm in his conditions for ending the war.

In June 2024, Putin said Ukraine must officially drop its NATO ambitions and withdraw its troops from the entirety of the territory of four Ukrainian regions claimed by Russia.

Russian officials have also proposed that the US recognise Russia’s control over about one-fifth of Ukraine and demanded that Ukraine remain neutral, though Moscow has said it is not opposed to Kyiv’s ambitions to join the European Union.

Putin specifically mentioned the 2022 draft deal from the talks in Istanbul.

Under that draft, Ukraine should agree to permanent neutrality in return for international security guarantees from the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council: China, France, Russia, the UK and the US.

“It was not Russia that broke off negotiations in 2022. It was Kyiv,” Putin said. “Russia is ready to negotiate without any preconditions.”

He thanked China, Brazil, African and Middle Eastern countries and the US for their efforts to mediate.

Russia, Putin added, had proposed several ceasefires, including a moratorium on striking energy facilities, an Easter ceasefire, and most recently, the 72-hour truce during the celebrations marking 80 years since victory in World War II, but accused Ukraine of repeatedly violating the ceasefires.

He said that during the May ceasefire, Ukraine had attacked Russia with 524 aerial drones, 45 sea drones, a number of Western missiles and that Russia had repelled five attacks on Russian regions.

Ukraine, too, has accused Russia of repeatedly violating its own ceasefire.

Earlier on Saturday, for the first time, the leaders of France, Germany, Poland and the UK travelled together to Ukraine in a visit that Zelenskyy said sent “a very important signal”.

The five leaders, following their meeting in Kyiv, issued a statement calling for a ceasefire “lasting at least 30 days” from Monday, to make room for a diplomatic push to end the war.

“An unconditional ceasefire by definition cannot be subject to any conditions. If Russia calls for such conditions, this can only be considered as an effort to prolong the war and undermine diplomacy,” the statement read.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the US would take the lead in monitoring the proposed ceasefire, with support from European countries, and threatened “massive sanctions … prepared and coordinated between Europeans and Americans” should Russia violate the truce.

Meanwhile, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, said Saturday that a “comprehensive” 30-day ceasefire, covering attacks from the air, land, sea and on infrastructure, “will start the process for ending the largest and longest war in Europe since World War II”.

Trump, who says he wants to be remembered as a peacemaker, has repeatedly said he wants to end the “bloodbath” of the Ukraine war, which his administration casts as a proxy war between the US and Russia.

Former US President Joe Biden, Western European leaders and Ukraine cast the invasion as an imperial-style land grab and repeatedly pledged to defeat Russian forces.

Love Island stars Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury split last year, but rumours of their reunion have now been confirmed on a new episode of the influencer’s reality show, and Molly-Mae is even talking about her hopes for more children

Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury are back together

Reality TV star Molly-Mae Hague has admitted she’s feeling “incredibly nervous” as fans watch the final three episodes of her Amazon Prime series.

In the new episodes Molly-Mae admits she wants more children with her boxer beau. The revelations come after her surprising decision to call off their engagement in August last year. I don’t think it’s gonna be a plain sailing future. I don’t. That’s just me being honest. I think we’re still gonna have bumps.

Danny Dyer shares his guilt after death of mentor Harold Pinter sent him into ‘spiral of madness’

The former EastEnders actor said he was ‘lost’ and ‘angry at the world’ after the Nobel Prize-winning playwright died in 2008. He expressed his guilt and how he was a ‘bit of a lost soul’ and ‘angry at the world’

Dyer said he would stay at the playwright’s house and learn about famous writers and poets like WH Auden and CS Lewis

Actor Danny Dyer has opened up about the profound impact the death of his mentor, acclaimed playwright Harold Pinter, had on him, describing it as a “spiral of madness”.

The Nobel Prize-winner cast the ex-EastEnders star, 47, in his production of ‘Celebration’ at the Almeida Theatre in London back in 2000. Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Dyer reminisced about staying over at Pinter’s home and absorbing literature from notable scribes like WH Auden and CS Lewis.

In 2001, ‘Celebration’ made its way to New York’s Lincoln Centre, but Dyer faced an onstage debacle when he blanked on his lines and succumbed to an “anxiety attack” following a night of drugs and revelry. Dyer expressed remorse for disappointing Pinter but shared how the playwright offered comfort, wrapping his arm around him to ease his distress.

Looking back on losing touch with Pinter and learning of his passing in 2008, Dyer recounted his reaction, saying: “I hadn’t spoke to him in a while. I did go off the rails for many years, and I found out by looking on the front of a newspaper. Again, I’d been on a bender and I was coming home and I was going, I think I was going to buy cigarettes at the petrol garage, and I see it in the paper. ‘Pinter dead’. This really sent me on a spiral of madness, really.”

He spoke of his guilt, saying: “The guilt of not being around him anymore and just being lost, I was a bit of a lost soul, and again, angry at the world.”

In April, US publication Deadline reported that Dyer was developing an idea for a play about his relationship with Pinter, whom he referred to as his “mentor”. Dyer, who had his breakthrough in the 1999 film Human Traffic, also reflected on some of the documentaries he had made earlier in his career.

In the noughties the actor presented TV series Danny Dyer’s Real Football Factories and Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men, the latter of which saw him interview gangsters and former terrorists

He said: “I’d made a few films and I just wasn’t getting paid any money, and I was desperate to get onto the property ladder. I was still living in a council estate at Custom House, living with my daughter (Dani) and (wife) Jo, and it’s like, well, I’m famous, but I’m still living on a council estate. And so then my house became a bit like Stonehenge, my little flat, and people would just stand outside waiting for me.”

He revealed there was a tipping point when an attempted burglary forced a move: “There was a moment where someone tried to burgle our house and I was like ‘we can’t live here no more’.”

The opportunity to do a documentary with a veteran footballer came as a financial windfall, as Dyer recalled, “So I got offered to do a documentary with a real football veteran and I couldn’t believe the money they was offering me, I thought, ‘Oh, wow'”.

Yet, despite the payday, he shared that the experience left much to be desired, saying, “Now I hated it, because I didn’t have a script, it was me on my own interviewing people, and interviewing dangerous people, by the way, but it got me on the property ladder.”

When quizzed on potential typecasting fears, he admitted he had no such luxury to worry: “I didn’t have the luxury. You know, it’s a bit uncouth, I can’t watch them back now, I cringe at them.”

Dyer concluded with pragmatic frankness, acknowledging the financial necessity behind his choices: “But, you know, I needed to earn money, and I needed to get a house, and I needed to do the right thing.”

Danny Dyer’s instalment of Desert Island Discs is set to broadcast at 10am on BBC Radio 4 and will also be accessible on BBC Sounds.
