Salford Red Devils wages late for second time

Due to ongoing financial problems, the Red Devils of Salford haven’t paid players or staff on time for the second occasion this year.

Before the start of the current campaign, the club received an early payment of their 2025 revenue share due to a turbulent off-season.

On the eve of the season, the Red Devils were acquired by a consortium led by Swiss investment banker Dario Berta, but their problems persist, leading to the RFL enforcing a sustainability cap that has had an impact on team selection.

Our payroll wasn’t delivered this morning as scheduled, despite assurances, the statement said, as many people will already be aware.

Everyone at Red Devils of Salford continues to struggle with this situation.

We, as players and staff, have continued to uphold our commitments with professionalism, keeping the club competitive both on and off the field, regardless of this. We’re now awaiting the same level of commitment from those in charge of maintaining our organization’s stability.

The unwavering support of our fans and partners during this difficult time is both inspiring and humbling, and it makes a difference for both players and staff.

Boss Paul Rowley resolutely stated that his squad’s resolve would remain unchanged despite his pre-game media commitments for Sunday’s game against Wigan Warriors.

Red Devils of Salford’ current state:

  • Due to financial difficulties, Salford and November 2024 request that their 2025 revenues be paid off sooner. Three days later, this is finally granted.
  • 15 January 2025 – The RFL orders Salford to sell players as their financial issues continue into the new year.
  • 7 February 2025 A consortium led by businessman Dario Berta passes a takeover on the eve of the season. The new owners will pay the club’s debt and pledge “additional significant investment for the future growth of the club,” according to Berta’s group’s approval of the RFL.
  • 13 February 2025 – Despite the agreement to the takeover, the club is still in the sustainability cap, and they have the option of fielding mostly reserve players for their season opener against St Helens.

  • The biggest winning margin in Super League history is 82-0, as witnessed by Saints on February 15, 2025, a heavily depleted Salford. In the wake of their team selection, the RFL investigates them.
  • The sustainability cap is lifted on March 4, 2025, but it is later reinstated because of ongoing financial problems that the club’s campaign campaign started to face.
  • 6 March 2025 – On the eve of their game against Castleford, which results in another defeat, they are eventually paid with wages for February still due.
  • 13 March 2025: Talismanic half-back Marc Sneyd leaves the team to join Warrington, launching a flurry of important squad players like Tim Lafai and Brad Singleton.
  • Salford won their first Super League game 20 March 2025, sealing their impressive comeback against the Huddersfield Giants.

Israel’s parliament passes law to expand control over judge appointments

Infuriating critics who labeled the Israeli government’s plan to reform the country’s judiciary, the Israeli parliament approved a crucial component of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s defiance of a years-long protest movement.

Politicians will have more authority over the appointment of judges thanks to the law, which was passed on Thursday with 67 votes in the 120-seat parliament or Knesset.

The government formally resigned as attorney general Gali Baharav-Miara and fired Shin Bet’s head of internal security Ronen Bar, two days prior to the vote. Netanyahu is both criticized by Baharav-Miara and Bar.

The opposition quickly filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the new law, calling it a “catastrophe” and a “nail in the coffin of Israeli democracy.”

Before the Gaza war caused the public’s concern, the overall judicial reform package sparked one of the largest protests in Israel’s history in 2023.

The bill was intended to “restore balance” between the legislative and judicial branches, according to Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who was the bill’s sponsor. Levin criticized the Supreme Court in his final remarks before the vote, claiming that it had “effectively nullified the Knesset.”

Israel’s constitution is unwritten, but it does have some basic laws that outline things like the parliament’s authority and human rights.

Levin claimed that the Supreme Court put itself above the government because it continued to “trample” the Knesset. It has the power to halt any government action, compel the government to carry out any action, and revoke any government appointment.

The era of silencing and appeasement has passed, and there will never be another.

A nine-member committee made up of judges, lawmakers, and representatives from bar associations is currently overseen by the justice minister, who also includes justices from the Supreme Court.

The committee would still consist of three supreme court judges, the justice minister, two ministers, one coalition lawmaker, one opposition lawmaker, and two public representatives, one of whom the majority and the opposition would nominate.

During demonstrations demanding the release of all Hamas-held prisoners, demonstrators gathered on the ground as security forces removed those who had blocked the entrance to the Knesset.

A “nog in the coffin,” in the best way.

On X, Yair Lapid, the leader of the center-right Yesh Atid party, announced that he had filed an appeal against the law on behalf of several opposition parties.

This government is returning to the exact legislation that caused the public’s discord before October 7 by focusing all efforts on their [Israeli captives’] return and healing the divisions within the population, Lapid said in his post.

Eliad Shraga, the head of the NGO The Movement for Quality Government in Israel and one of the petitioners against the law, “The amendment passed by the Knesset is yet another nail in the coffin of Israeli democracy.” This is a deliberate attempt to take control of the court system and turn it into a political tool.

The government’s judicial reforms package, which was first introduced in early 2023, sparked a frenzied weekly street protests that divided Israeli society.

Colombia and the US agree to collect and share biometric data for migrants

In Bogota, the two nations have signed a memorandum of understanding, which would allow them to exchange biometric data collected from migrants.

Kristi Noem, the secretary of homeland security, traveled from Washington, DC on Thursday to discuss the agreement as a step toward a solution for the issue of illegal immigration to both nations.

She emphasized in particular its benefits for Colombia, which is frequently a destination for migrants and refugees fleeing Venezuela’s neighbor’s economic unrest and political repression.

“By assisting Colombia, and by assisting the Colombian people in detecting and preventing criminals and terrorists from trying to cross its borders,” Noem said, “This deployment of biometric capabilities under the Department of Homeland Security’s biometric data sharing partnership will help us make an impact.”

“So Colombians will feel safer while we work together.”

Donald Trump’s administration has frequently cited criminality as a result of the dangers of undocumented immigration.

However, studies have consistently demonstrated that US citizens who are not citizens of the United States are more likely to commit crimes. For instance, according to a study funded by the National Institute of Justice, undocumented people are detained less frequently than native-born citizens for violent crimes.

However, prominent incidents like the 2024 murder of nursing student Laken Riley by a Venezuelan immigrant have proven to be powerful forces in the US right.

Noem said on Thursday, “We recognize that there are dangerous criminals, organized, sophisticated cartels, and criminal organizations that we need to address together to put an end to the horrifying things that are happening in our communities every day.”

[Alex Brandon/Pool via Reuters] Sarabia, left, and Noem signed a memorandum that will facilitate the sharing of biometric data.

Trump has repeatedly said he will take action against illegal immigration, calling it an “invasion” and campaigning against “mass deportation.”

Trump designated Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan criminal organization, as a “foreign terrorist organization” on the first day of his second term, which was ultimately made official this month.

Additionally, he has invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, a law passed during the war, to deport Venezuelans he claims were gang members to El Salvador’s highest-security cell.

However, a federal appeals court upheld his legal right to use that law on Thursday after his use of it was challenged in court.

Trump has received criticism for his opposition to illegal immigration, including from Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro.

Petro attacked the US president’s treatment of undocumented immigrants from Colombia on social media in January, citing the use of restraints and military aircraft to bring them back to their home country.

He instructed the reversal of two midair US aircraft.

According to Petro, “A migrant is not a criminal and deserves the dignity that a human person deserves.” “It’s why I requested that the US military aircraft carrying Colombian migrants be flown back.”

One of Trump’s first significant diplomatic incidents occurred following his second term in office.

Trump responded by threatening Colombia with 25% tariff increases if Colombia refused to accept the deportees. In the end, Petro, Colombia’s first left-wing leader, gave in.

Laura Sarabia, Colombia’s foreign minister, put forth her country’s commitment to respecting immigrants during the signing ceremony on Thursday.

She claimed that the measures her government’s signing would “ensure that the human rights and the dignity of migrants are actually respected.”

Colombia was the largest recipient of US assistance in South America prior to Trump’s suspension of international aid. It has also played a key role in the “war on drugs” in the US.

The US Department of Homeland Security’s growing use of the International Biometric Information Sharing program has been criticized by some critics.

For instance, the UK-based nonprofit Statewatch has criticized the expanding exchange of government biometric data.

Impractical Jokers’ Joe Gatto ‘checks into facility’ in wake of sexual assault claim

Joe Gatto, the Impractical Jokers star, was charged with two counts of sexual harassment and two counts of sexual assault and has canceled his upcoming tour. The 48-year-old comedian and actor rose to fame on the comedy show, which pits four friends against one another to do absurd things.

The comic, who has denied the allegations against him, later made a statement in which he claimed he had voluntarily entered an inpatient facility “to continue working on himself” after the allegations went viral on TikTok over the weekend.

It comes after a TikTok user claimed Gatto sexually assaulted her at the age of 19. Millions of people watched her March 20 post, which was titled “I got sexually assaulted by Joe Gatto, the Impractical Joker,” and it has since been deleted.

The woman claimed she and him had met in Milwaukee in 2023 and that she had contacted him in a restaurant in hopes of receiving a free ticket to his performance. She claimed that they kept texting each other until they eventually met. Following the alleged sexual assault incident, she claimed she had a mark on her back.

Another woman who previously worked with Gatto on Impractical Jokers claimed the TV star had grabbed her inappropriately two days later. When she began working there, she claimed that other employees had warned her that Gatto could be “handy” and that they would make inappropriate jokes. He is said to also request cuddles and back massages.

Joe (left) and his Impractical Jokers pals have refuted all claims, but he has acknowledged that he “used poor judgment” when making the claim.

In response to the claims that Gatto used poor judgment and, as a result, had harmed the lives of the people I love most, a comic’s spokesperson responded in a statement. However, anyone who has ever met me knows that I wouldn’t physically assault anyone. I’m going to take some time away from the public eye to concentrate on what I need to do because working on myself is a process that goes on forever.

In another statement to PEOPLE magazine today, a source close to Gatto confirmed he would be cancelling his upcoming tour. He also said: “Having taken some time to reflect, l’ve decided to voluntarily enter an inpatient program to continue working on myself. I just want to thank my friends, fans and especially my family for all of their support — never more so than over the last few days.”

Gatto joined James Murray, Sal Vulcano, and Brian Q Quinn as one-fourth of the Impractical Jokers cast. Since its launch in 2011, the show has enjoyed a massive global success, but Gatto left in 2021.

He wrote on Instagram at the time that he was a “dedicated ten years of my life to building this franchise” along with his friends. However, I have to step aside due to some personal issues.

“Bessy]his ex-wife and I have already made the decision to end our relationship, so I need to concentrate on being the best parent and co-parent to our two amazing children.” He continued, “I am very thankful to have worked with each and every one of his co-stars,” thanked them. The Mirror has reached out to discuss this story further.

Mbappe, Vinicius among four Real Madrid players being investigated by UEFA

UEFA is looking into four Real Madrid players, including Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe, for allegedly engaging in inappropriate conduct during the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

The governing body of European football, UEFA, announced on Thursday that it had appointed a disciplinary inspector to investigate the unnamed allegations made during the March 12 round-of-16 game. Antonio Rudiger and Dani Ceballos are also involved in the case.

Mbappe grabbed his crotch during celebrations on the field to earn a penalty shootout, according to video clips that were popular on social media.

Any suspension would make it impossible for a player to miss Madrid’s first game of the quarterfinals against Arsenal on April 8.

After the shootout against Atletico, Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals. The decisive spot kick came from Rudiger, who led the team’s wild dancers all the way to Atletico’s home field.

Madrid player Jude Bellingham received a one-game ban suspended for a one-year probationary period in a similar case that UEFA prosecuted at the European Championship last year.

When Bellingham gestured his hand toward his crotch in stoppage time, he scored the winning goal for England against Slovakia. In extra time, England advanced to a 2-1 victory.

Elton John in ‘awful state’ over making album while war is going on in Middle East

Elton John has opened up about creating his most recent album, which features Brandi Carlile, but admits that due to Middle Eastern conflict, his thoughts were in two places during the recording.

After his Glasto wansong, he may have officially stopped touring. However, Sir Elton John has resisted sacrificing his musical talent for the occasional one-time musical extravaganza. And he kept his word when he performed a smashing set in front of a packed house on Wednesday to celebrate Brandi Carlile’s new album at the London Palladium.

The pop legend, who included DJ Zoe Ball, actor Jason Mamoa, and musician Ronnie Wood and Sam Fender, before the performance, claimed that his musical accomplishments do not constitute his greatest legacy. He said, “On my tombstone, I want nothing to do with Crocodile f***ing Rock,” while speaking poignantly about sons Zachary, 14 and Elijah, 12. He was a great father, I just want to say that.

At a Q&A, he also revealed that music had been the last thing on his mind recently, as he had grown so disillusioned with the world that he almost quit recording his new album, He said: “Brandi came down to the breakfast table and I was reading about Israel and Gaza and I was really down anyway, and I was like ‘why am I making a record when this is going on?’ It doesn’t seem right.’”

We had these mornings hanging around in our pyjamas, and Brandi, who was with him in the Q&amp, A, was in a terrible state about the goings-on. He claimed, “I don’t believe this is the right time to record an album.” What tracks are included in the album Who Believes in Angels? An Evening With Elton John And Brandi Carlile was played at the concert.

The first few days of recording were “tumultuous,” Elton, who celebrated his 78th birthday on Tuesday, claimed to be. He claimed, “I was becoming extremely wound up. I wasn’t feeling well at all.

After the tour, I was devastated, but I couldn’t leave three other people who had a similar commitment. My main motivation was to step up and settle down once I understood the song and understood the lyrics, which I always found to be excellent. “The pair played some new songs from the album, including You Without Me and Swing For The Fences.”

Additionally, Elton performed hits like Tiny Dancer, Bennie and the Jets, and Your Song, before wrapping things up with a powerful rendition of I’m Still Standing. Hearning about his trademark sunglasses, he also revealed that he has “at least 15, 000 pairs” and laughed, “We keep all of them in storage.”

When asked about the recent outcry against LGBTQ+rights, Elton responded, “These things will pass. It’s tough out there.” “Elton’s most recent performance in the UK was his 330-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour’s headline performance at Glastonbury in 2023. He revealed last November that his ability to record music was impacted by an infection that had left him stranded.

She (Carlile) is very well known in America, Elton said, referring to the reasons he wrote the new album. She is not that well-known in the UK or elsewhere. I wanted to make this album with the most incredible musician, singer, and songwriter, but I also wanted her to have exposure and a chance for the world to see how amazing she is.

Brandi, 43, who has collaborated with artists including Hozier, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys, also performed her hit song, The Story. Their album, which will be released on April 4, has been co-written by Elton’s songwriting partner Bernie Taupin and produced by Grammy winner Andrew Watt, who played guitar at the sold out show. They were joined by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and their former guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

Review of TOM BRYANT

Although he may now walk a little gingerly over to the piano, 78-year-old Elton is like a man-possessed once he is no longer there. There were times during this extra-special show when you had to feel your stomach hurt when you watched.

Without a doubt, Brandi Carlile’s partnership with the seriously talented American star has given the rock ‘n’roll a new lease. He explodes when he performs some of his best work in a while on their new joint material.

Yes, Tiny Dancer and Bennie and the Jets are all portrayed as classics of the past. However, Elton is urged to get up on his stool by new tracks like Swing for the Fences, which they consistently do. retirement ? It blatantly suits Elton…
