The Premier League has once more teamed up with international leagues and player unions to request that temporary concussion substitutes be tried by law enforcement.

The International Football Association Board (Ifab) has turned down requests to implement temporary replacements on numerous occasions.

28 other competitions and player bodies concur with the Premier League’s new motion.

Major League Soccer, Premier Soccer League South Africa, the European Leagues, Serie A, France’s Professional Football League, and the European Leagues and World Leagues Association are just a few of the players who have co-signed the proposal.

According to the letter, based on available medical and scientific evidence, it is in the player’s best interests to pursue this position.

Before Tuesday’s Ifab’s annual business meeting in London, it has been sent to Ifab.

The Premier League has requested that the trial be held and results fully disclosed in a separate letter from the EFL and the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).

Following a trial period, permanent concussion substitutes were added to the game’s laws in 2024. Ifab thinks this demonstrates zero concussion tolerance.

A player who is alleged to have had a concussion must be substituted and is prohibited from returning to the field.

However, the Premier League contends that making permanent substitutions increases the risk of a team leaving a player on the field.

Requests for a trial scheme are frequently rejected.

Temporary replacements are said to significantly improve the management of concussions right away and give medical teams enough time to evaluate players.

The Premier League will meet with Ifab to discuss the situation, as will Fifa and the international board.

Ifab hopes to advance the concept to its 28-february annual general meeting in Cardiff, where trials might be able to receive final approval.

Many leagues and unions have consistently opposed them despite Ifab’s claim that permanent substitutions are the safest approach.

When Ifab’s trials began in 2021, Fifpro and the PFA first raised objections to them.

The PFA urged temporary substitutes to be used in 2022 to allow medical personnel to conduct more thorough and in-depth examinations of potentially injured players away from the field of play.

At Ifab’s AGM in March 2023, a group of leagues submitted a joint application. The Premier League claimed that it was “disappointed” and that “all available scientific evidence” was being disregarded.

Fifpro reiterated its position on temporary substitutes a few months after being rejected, citing British Journal of Sports Medicine research that suggested that concussions on athletes should take at least 10-15 minutes to be evaluated.

Recent research from the Premier League indicates that between 27% and 53% of concussion victims are not replaced right away in the letter to Ifab.

Temporary substitutes have significantly decreased the number of players returning to play who have been later found to have a concussion in other sports.

Rugby Union saw a decrease of 58% to 8%, while NFL players only saw a decrease in the percentage of players returning to the field.

The Premier League will inform Ifab that temporary replacement trials must be rejected with a detailed justification.

To prevent teams from relying on substitutions to gain a competitive advantage, a regulatory framework has been created.

An oversight body would review all incidents’ video to determine whether they were true, while the opposition team would receive an additional substitute.

Chelsea in talks for Rennes defender Jacquet

Images courtesy of Getty
During the winter transfer window, Chelsea has been in talks with Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.

The Blues are currently being quoted more than £60 million to complete a deal this month despite having spoken with both Rennes and the 20-year-old’s agent regarding a move.

Although it is known that the France Under-21 international is interested in the move, BBC Sport is aware of rival interest.

The talks come after Stamford Bridge’s internal decision to move forward with signing a center-back by six months rather than the summer.

Other options will also be taken into account. Marcos Senesi and Como defender Jacabo Ramon are reportedly in the spotlight, both of whom are also attracting Real Madrid’s attention.

Senesi’s contract expires at the end of the season, and the south-coast club has not yet received any formal correspondence from Chelsea.

Prior to last summer’s transfer window, Chelsea had considered signing a centre-back for former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, but Real Madrid’s main target Dean Huijsen made the move.

One of Maresca’s early frustrations, which ultimately resulted in his mid-season departure, was assessed, but Chelsea did not believe they could find a suitable alternative.

After Levi Colwill suffered a serious knee injury in the pre-season, the team felt the need to sign a ball-playing center-back. However, his recovery is progressing well and he has faith that he will play in the offseason. He continues to be a key component of Chelsea’s long-term goals.

JoJo Siwa looks very different as she plans huge next step with Chris Hughes

JoJo Siwa, the dance moms star, makes her intentions clear while taking new bikini snaps while on a Royal Caribbean cruise in the winter and appears unrecognizable in the new bikini snaps.

JoJo Siwa looked unrecognisable in new snaps, which suggest marriage might be on her mind. JoJo slipped into a revealing white bikini for an array of snaps which she shared to social media on Friday evening.

In the snaps, JoJo can be seen smiling as she took the mirror selfies while on a winter getaway on a Royal Caribbean cruise with her family. It has been reported that she donned the same white two-piece that she wore in the Celebrity Big Brother house, where she met her beau Chris Hughes.

After sharing an AI-generated image of herself wearing a wedding dress, the Dance Mom’s star had spoken out about her intentions with Chris. The couple has also openly discussed having children and growing their families.

JoJo recently took to TikTok where she hinted that she was thinking about children after she asked AI to generate what her and Chris’ kids would look like. The images she shared included then wearing matching Christmas pyjamas and attending glamorous events.

While the pictures ChatGPT generated were light-hearted, some fans branded the pictures ‘weird’ and criticised JoJo for using the software.

One commentator called it “so insane” that an artist as large as Jojo Siwa would use AI to create a family. HELLO”?.

A third penned: “Yea so AI is destroying the world, if you want good lives for your kids, stop using it”, while another chimed in: “Using ai for this is weird as hell and everyone defending it makes me lose hope in humanity”.

Other fans rushed to compliment the influencer because they thought it was “cute.” One person said, “Waitt stop it’s so cute,” and another, “Yours & Chris’ children will be the cutest!” In the not too distant future, I can see these images coming to life.

JoJo and Chris met while taking part in Celebrity Big Brother, while JoJo was in a relationship with Kath Ebbs. She ended her relationship with Kath after leaving the show.

Since JoJo and Chris first met in the Big Brother house, they have been a couple forever. They later revealed the relationship status despite initially claiming they were just friends at the time.

JoJo’s eyes were said to “light up” as soon as the couple spent their first Christmas together last month when JoJo was asked if she wanted a ring for Christmas. She then admitted that she was familiar with the wedding playlist’s elements and color scheme.

“I do know that I want it to have a baby-blue colour scheme and I need to help Chris make the playlist,” Jojo told The Sun. “Otherwise, it’ll be all songs I don’t know!” She cited The 1975 and said she would want to include NSYNC and Backstreet Boys.

She went on to say that she even asked Chris for “a ring” for Christmas because Jojo asked him what he wanted under the tree. He responded, “Really?” ‘. I responded, “A Ring doorbell!”

Eamonn Holmes ‘buys luxury hideaway’ for him and Katie amid ex Ruth’s memoir release

Ex-partner of 27 years Eamonn has put a deposit down on a plush new-build hideaway for him and his new lover, 43-year-old Katie following the release of Ruth Langsford’s tell-all memoir.

Eamonn Holmes has bought a luxury new-build property for weekend retreats with his younger lover Katie Alexander, following his split from his former partner of 27 years, Ruth Langsford. The plush homes are set in a secluded hamlet in Holywood, five miles out from the TV and radio star’s native Belfast.

It will offer the new couple a base for their trips to Northern Ireland to see Eamonn’s family and an escape for weekend getaways together. The 66-year-old former This Morning host has reportedly laid down a deposit on one of the homes, which cost anywhere from £700,000 to £900,000.

A source told the Sun : “Eamonn loves going back to Northern Ireland visiting family and he’s been after a new place there for a while. It will be the perfect place to build a home with Katie, with no memories of anyone else. They can use it for weekend retreats.”

Since Eamonn’s mobility issues have advanced since 2021, he has been forced to use a walking stick and wheelchair. The location is “perfect,” according to the source, because the properties can be “custom-built” to make them accessible.

Following Ruth’s announcement that her new memoir, Feeling Fabulous will detail the “highs and lows” of their relationship, the new hideaway may have come at a good time for Eamonn. After almost three decades of dating, the couple split in 2024, with Eamonn wasting no time before moving on with his friend, 43-year-old relationship therapist Katie Alexander.

The former couple have remained tight-lipped about their separation, but Ruth is likely to be opening up about everything in her book, which is due out on February 26. She shared the news on Instagram on Friday, telling fans she will tell about “the good and the not so good”.

She remarked, “I can’t believe my first book will be published in 2026! I’m very excited but also a little nervous. These are accounts of my life, both positively and negatively, as well as the positive and negative aspects of everything that led to who I am today.

The Loose Women star continued: “I share the experiences that have shaped me and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Publication day is 26th February but you can pre order a copy now (and a limited number of signed copies are available too). Click the link in my bio or check out my stories to get your copy. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it x”.

Ruth and Eamonn have been together since their marriage ended, and she just recently revealed that she has been receiving therapy. She explained to the home magazine woman&amp that she had begun counseling.

My counsellor “does not get involved in our relationship because she probably saw us on TV,” she said. She simply nods, “Have you thought about this?” or “Why did that make you feel that way?” She continued, “I think I know myself very well, so it has just been soothing.” I’m left wondering how I’m feeling.
