Summer women’s television series starring Australia and Wales

Date: Saturday, July 26th, 2019 Kick-off: 05:00 BST

Overview

When Wales take on Australia in the first of two Tests on Saturday, they will follow the success of the British and Irish Lions in Brisbane.

In preparation for the Rugby World Cup, which begins in England in less than a month, Sean Lynn’s men have traveled to the South of the country.

Wales are in search of their first victory under Lynn after finishing bottom of the 2025 Six Nations, while the hosts, who are ranked sixth in the world, are currently the favorites.

Last September, the two sides met twice, with Wales winning at Rodney Parade and South Africa hammering them both.

As he searches for combinations and blood new players, Lynn said Wales will be a ways from the finished product.

When Lynn was in charge of Gloucester-Hartpury and Yapp Worcester Warriors, he will face Australia’s head coach Jo Yapp, who they had a history of playing rugby against.

Team news

Following their crushing defeat this month by New Zealand, the hosts have switched six times.

Siokapesi Palu is injured as a blindside flanker, but Emily Chancellor takes over as captain.

Ashley Marsters will be the team’s most successful player when she makes her 40th appearance.

Annabelle Codey takes the spot at lock in place of Michaela Leonard, who is rested along with Faitala Moleka, while Lydia Kavoa and Katalina Amosa are called up to the front row.

Charlotte Caslick is sidelined for the series with an ankle injury, and Georgina Friedrichs takes center.

In place of Moleka, Caitlyn Halse takes over her starting position of full-back.

The bench will now include Lori Cramer, Ashley Fernandez, and Bree-Anna Browne.

Alex Callender will start for the first time in the side because Wales have also made the decision to rest players, including Kate Williams, who was co-captain.

Georgia Evans moves to the blindside flanker position as she occupies the eighth position.

Catherine Richards gets an opportunity on the wing while Nel Metclafe makes a comeback from the starting lineup at full-back.

Sisilia Tuipulotu, who missed the Six Nations with a hamstring injury, will earn her 50th career hooker cap.

View from the camps

Before the World Cup begins, Australia’s head coach Jo Yapp stated: “We’re looking forward to playing these final two Test matches on home soil.”

The series has been forced by injuries, which also gives other players opportunities ahead of the World Cup.

We are fortunate to have someone like Emily Chancellor step up and lead the team, despite it being disappointing to lose Siokapesi Palu as leader.

Emily has worked closely with Siokapesi throughout the season and is a natural leader.

Sean Lynn, the head coach of Wales, stated: “Saturday will be a really good challenge depending on where we are.”

“Saturday will be a really good test for us because the girls and the staff have all worked so hard this pre-season,” said the manager.

We’re not going to be the finished product, but everything we’re doing is about ensuring that we’re moving forward.
