In the German Darts Championship, Nathan Aspinall won his third European Tour victory of the year.

Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode defeated the 34-year-old Englishman 8-6 in the final in Hildesheim.

Aspinall, who won the European Darts Open and European Darts Trophy, adds the title to his previous victories on the European Tour.

Aspinall, who will be the top seed for the European Championship in Dortmund the following weekend, won the Sunday final with an average of 97.05 points.

In the final, “The Asp” jumped to a 6-2 lead before Van Duijvenbode equalized before Aspinall won the £30, 000 first prize.

Aspinall defeated Dutch duo Jermaine Wattimena and Gian van Veen on finals day, finishing with a stunning 110 average to defeat Steve Lennon.

The Stockport thrower then defeated world youth champion Van Veen 7-6 in the semi-finals with four straight legs.

Only the fifth player to have won three European Tour titles in the same calendar year is Aspinall, Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Luke Humphries, and Dave Chisnall.

Aspinall, who will face Rob Cross at the European Championship, said, “I’m in very good company.”

“These are very, very difficult times,” he declared. I didn’t know the formula until I won my first one, but it took me ten years to do so.
