Ravichandran Ashwin, a former Indian off-spinner, has left the Indian Premier League (IPL) and wants to play in other franchise leagues around the world.
Ashwin, 38, is fifth in the all-time wicket-taker list with 187 and has played for five franchises, including the Chennai Super Kings, where he won the title twice in 2010 and 2011 .
Any player who plays domestic or international cricket for India is not permitted to play in international competitions, according to the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI).
According to Ashwin, “every ending will have a new beginning,” he said on social media.
“My time as an IPL cricketer is coming to an end today, but my time as a game explorer in various leagues starts today.”
As the seventh-highest wicket-taker in Test history, Ashwin retired from international cricket in December.
In 106 Tests, he took 537 wickets for an average of 24 runs, second only to Anil Kumble’s 619 among India’s bowlers.
