With their Premier League game against Brighton &, Hove Albion on Sunday, Everton will begin their competitive season at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
They will hope to rebound from last Monday’s 1-0 defeat at Leeds and build on the momentum from their most recent season at Goodison Park under David Moyes.
What is the typical performance of Premier League teams when they relocate?
To date, there have been eight, with the exception of temporary homes, which were only a part of the top flight during the first year of operation at the new stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur (2019)
After almost two seasons at Wembley, Tottenham moved to their new Tottenham Hotspur stadium in 2019 to replace their former home at White Hart Lane.
On April 3, 2019, they won the league game 2-0 over Crystal Palace at the new venue. They followed that up with victories over Huddersfield and Brighton in the Champions League and Manchester City in the league.
But then they lost to Ajax in the Champions League first leg and West Ham in the league.
Mauricio Pochettino’s dismissal and a disappointing sixth-place finish in the league were the result of their first full season at the new stadium.
That was their worst league position since 2008-2009, which was also their worst.
There was not a single game lost at White Hart Lane in their final season (2016) (2016-17).
They won both domestic cups and league home games, finishing second, and were unbeaten. Wembley hosted both of their Champions League matches.

West Ham (2016)

At the beginning of 2016/17, West Ham moved from the Boleyn Ground (better known as Upton Park) to London Stadium, which was the 2012 Olympic Stadium.
To begin playing at their new home, they defeated Slovenian side NK Domzale 3-3 in a Europa League qualifier.
Their first Premier League home game there was a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth, but they lost to Romanian side Astra Giurgiu to force Europa’s play-off exit.
Their next home victory would have to be announced until October 22.
That season, West Ham finished 11th overall, four places below the previous Upton Park performance.
In their final game back at their 112-year home, the Hammers had defeated Manchester United 3-2.

Arsenal (2006)

The first day of the 2006-07 season saw Arsenal draw 1-1 against Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium.
Four days later, they recorded their first victory there, defeating Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 to advance to the Champions League group stages.
The Gunners only lost once this season against West Ham, winning 1-0 at their new home.
The Hammers won their final game of the season at Highbury with a 3-2 victory on February 1, 2006, making it the last away team to do so.
Although they reached the Champions League final in their final season at the old ground, they finished fourth in both of the Premier League competitions.

Manchester City (2003)

Manchester City relocated to Eastlands Stadium, which had hosted the 2002 Commonwealth Games, at the beginning of 2003-2004.
Later, it changed its name to Etihad Stadium, which is still in use.
In a Uefa Cup qualifier against Welsh side TNS, City won 5-0. Their first competitive game at the new venue.
In their first disappointing campaign, City’s 1-1 draw against Portsmouth was their first league home game.
After finishing ninth in their previous campaign at Maine Road, Kevin Keegan’s side finished 16th. Their final encounter at the old ground was a 1-0 defeat to Southampton on the final day.

Southampton (2001)

The terrible beginning of Southampton’s relocation to St. Mary’s in 2001-2002.
In their first five games there, they lost to Chelsea 2-0 on August 25 and suffered four defeats and one draw.
Stage manager Stuart Gray was fired on November 24 for his first victory at the stadium.
After a 103-year hiatus at The Dell, they came in comfortably in 11th place under Gordon Strachan, just one place below what they did in their final season there.
Their most recent encounter at The Dell was a memorable 3-2 victory over Arsenal, which Matt le Tissier scored in the closing seconds.

Derby (1997)

For the wrong reasons, Derby County’s debut game at Pride Park on August 13, 1997, was forgettable.
The Rams won 2-1 in the 56th minute of the Premier League match against Wimbledon because the floodlights went out and couldn’t be fixed in time.
The replay of the game two months later ended 1-1.
A 1-0 win over Barnsley on August 30 marked Derby’s first full-grown appearance at the new stadium.
The Rams finished ninth overall, just barely missing out on Europe.
In their final year at the Baseball Ground, they had finished 12th overall. In their final game against Arsenal, they lost 3-1.

Bolton (1997)

Bolton Wanderers are the only Premier League team to have experienced relegation in their first season at Reebok Stadium (now Toughsheet Community Stadium) between 1997 and 1998.
They had just been promoted, though.
Everton’s 0-0 draw on September 1st marked the start of that team’s upcoming game. On October 14, they won their first league game at home against Wimbledon, and 12 days later they defeated Chelsea 1-0 there.
Their promotion to the top flight was sealed by their victory in Burnden Park’s final season, which was remembered.
Their most recent encounter with the old ground was a 4-1 victory over Charlton on April 25, 1997. Their final defeat was against Chesterfield in the FA Cup on February 4, 2010, when they lost 3-2.

Middlesbrough (1995)

Following a two-year break, Middlesbrough relocated to Riverside Stadium in 1995-1996 as they made their way back to the top flight.
And they had a successful season opener thanks to Juninho.
They won their first game at their new stadium on August 26 with a score of 2-0, and they didn’t lose a league game until November 21 against Tottenham.
However, they struggled to win any league matches after Christmas Day, only winning two at home or away.
In their final season at Ayresome Park, Boro had won the First Division title, just like Bolton did two years later.
They won 2-1 at Ayresome Park on April 30, 1995, and last lost 4-2 at Derby on March 18 to finish the season there.
